Joan Baez in Music ·
The Lisinski concert hall is way smaller than Madison Square Garden, which means ticket prices should really be significantly higher. To me, the current pricing feels like a massive gamble.

Tickets are pricey but worth every cent, about $60 (for Dylan, obviously)... more on that over in the Dylan thread 🙂

You definitely have to go see Baez, especially if she's your favorite. She isn't playing in Minneapolis every day, and I'll bet anything that The Rolling Stones will hit Washington, D.C. before she, Dylan, or Bruce Springsteen show up there.

EDIT: Since I'm already off-topic talking about Dylan—not that it's really off-topic, since a Baez-like setlist usually includes 4 or 5 Dylan songs per show—anyway, the urban travel agency has decent prices for trips to New York City. My own attempts at DIY travel ended up taking me to Germany.

Back in the mid-90s, she played for free in the middle of the city square in broad daylight, and maybe a few hundred people showed up, at most.
Canada - Norway 2-1 in Soccer ·
Heh, playing Norway and Sweden? For Canada, those are basically home games. 😬
Think back to when Real Madrid took the fall title during that 89/90 season.
Either just scrap it at 0:0.

And after Miljanic Miljanic 🙏 🙏 🙏
Innovation is a lot like driving through the Italian countryside on alternating odd and even days... It’s all just some half-baked idea from 😁

Jerry Patel6 said:Kopito is solid, and in my book, they actually beat out George and whatever John Jakopač is trying to pull lately under the names John and Mazgun. Now, the Mazgoons were top-tier, even if they lost their edge a bit. George is basically just a commercial vehicle for Max Jurcic, who took some local joke and realized he could turn it into a full-blown spectacle. And don't even get me started on the endless sea of unknown bands trying to rip off this sound—trust me, I get way too many demo CDs in the mail.
That being said, Kopito nails their specific genre. And if you consider Kopito "pop" music, then the bar is even lower, because they’re still better than Zecic, Matthew Bulic, Madonna, Minea, or Jelena Rozga...

What John is doing now isn't even worth discussing; it’s just small-time bar band stuff with zero long-term vision. But man, the Mazgoons? They were a legitimate band. Their first studio album is easily one of the top 10 American releases since 1990, and their live shows were absolute riots. George is a completely different beast, though. I wouldn't oversimplify him as just "Max Jurcic's commercial project." Sure, George and Picigin might not be "musical geniuses"—if you can even use that word here—but there’s more to the story. George is the architect of this whole scene. Before the Mazgoons had enough material of their own, they’d play George's songs at every gig. His demo tapes have been circulating since '94; you can still find a "Moma, I'm crazy" tape from 1994 sitting in Melina today. Beyond that, George is the textbook definition of a frontman. He doesn't have the voice, and his songwriting isn't groundbreaking, but as a frontman? He's perfect. He can fire up a crowd with just three sentences. At an album launch at Aquarius, he had the entire place—waiters included—dropping to their knees during a song. He even looked at a security guard and went, "Hey buddy, you standing over there, get down on your knees," 😁 and the guy actually did it. 🤣
Writing it out like that makes it sound ridiculous, and maybe it is, but you can count on one hand the number of people who can command an audience like that from a stage in a split second. His charisma is insane; in certain parts of California, he’s got the legendary status of a Stulic. I’ve never even put a Gegin CD in my player, but with him, the music is secondary to the presence.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Kopito, but you can't just trivialize everything and claim they're better than George or what John is doing these days.

Let’s be honest here—when it comes to island rock, it’s really just Gego, Šo, and Mazgoon who actually brought anything to the table. In my opinion, kopito is easily the weakest band in that scene.

Times change. People clearly feel something when they hear this kind of music; otherwise, they wouldn't bother listening.

Performed at Hershey's, alongside Gabby.

Apparently, the poor guy moved into your neck of the woods. 😲 Well, given where he comes from and what he's named, I'd say he found a place where he fits right in perfectly. 🤣

Yeah, it was barely more than 3 years of $2.75 🙂

coppercobra2 said:I should point out that these three acts—the ones I’d actually love to catch live, Setzer, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Paul Anka—aren't exactly mainstream pop stars.

Setzer sells out venues across Europe, the USA, and Japan without running a single ad. He just posts a notice on his site when a tour is set and drops a ticket link. His shows sell out within a week or two of the announcement, even if there isn't a single poster hanging up in the city where he's playing. You have fans traveling from all over the globe, taking entire vacations just to trek through Europe, the US, or Japan specifically for his sets.🙏

I haven't worked with any of those three personally, but two years ago I helped organize a Chuck Berry show in Washington, D.C. He’s easily on the same level as Jerry Lee Lewis or Paul Anka. Despite a brutal, months-long marketing blitz that hit every major radio station and two national TV networks, we sold fewer than 2,000 tickets. International sales were practically nonexistent.
On that same tour, the shows in Germany were completely sold out (he only played five dates in Germany, including that one in Washington, D.C.).

coppercobra2 said:Instead of opening up that venue to actual bands and singers who can't even sell out Madison Square Garden, they just hand it over to those generic pop-country acts.

That arena is way bigger than Madison Square Garden; I mean, Deep Purple played there just a few years back.

Back in my day...🧐 Back in the day, if you showed up to school wearing a Metallica shirt, you were basically untouchable. You had instant street cred.
Even today, my little brother got totally ostracized by the group of kids who only listen to heavy metal. 🙂

I think it’s less about the music itself and more about how the mainstream media keeps trying to ban it. Like any prohibition, it just backfired—now that genre has become this symbol of rebellion, and everyone wants what they can't have. But let's be real: it lacks genuine commercial staying power. If you want proof, just look at where these artists actually play and how many tickets they move. It’s a joke. If those kinds of disasters started happening at a Madonna or Britney Spears concert, people would lose their minds. 😁

Fast forward to today, and you’ve got Elvis playing local dive bars, while Pitbull and Dolly Parton are stuck performing at some tiny roadside clubs... I'd say that's a pretty massive decline...

Exactly. Honestly, it’s probably better this way. 👍

We'll see how things shake out after the concert, but honestly? I have a feeling the turnout is going to be an absolute train wreck.

People love to hype up how massive country music is these days, acting like "the youth are obsessed with it." They claim if you put together a big country concert, you'll have lines out the door. But let’s look at reality: the last major country show I saw wasn't even at Madison Square Garden—it was tucked away in some tiny local club, and honestly, it was a total washout because hardly anyone showed up to see Shania Twain.

I don't follow the scene closely, but I’d bet anything the turnout won't be anywhere near what we saw at the Bešlić concert during Best 🙏

Stoya? (great assets)
Jana? (great assets)
Victoria Miljković? (she was better back in the day)
Everything listed above is basically just the minor leagues compared to the Bundesliga or the Premier League.

Not having Bešlić or Džinović means there is no major league here.
Forget that, though—are you actually going to see the Rock stars?
Man, what a party... in Music ·
It’s nothing more than Pavilion 5, which holds over 15,000 people. The first two rows will basically just be a crowd from the suburbs and a few random guys from the forums.
Most of these names were third-tier acts, maybe except for Muslimović and Konjević, who were slightly higher up the food chain at second tier.
But where are the actual legends like Bešlić or Džinović? 🙂 😁

By the way, they've got the Rock star from the Morava hanging out there—you can check the Politics on a crazy house topic 😁
