Democratic Party bickering in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Andrew Booth29 said:Look, this is a discussion board, not a personal diary... People come here to actually debate.
Take this thread (or something similar) for example; it gained immediate traction simply because the OP actually put some effort into setting the stage.

So, what’s your take on this one?

I have to admit, I found myself somewhat cornered by the arguments presented—not to mention the inevitable "guilty until proven innocent" vibe, which feels like a lingering hangover from certain eras of our supposed democracy and justice, or rather, lack thereof.

But then there’s this one:

When you see such blatant and aggressive efforts to favor the Democratic Party on a subforum where there are at least five threads targeting the Republican Party, it really makes you wonder about the organization of other topics. It creates this distinct impression that one moderator enjoys much more freedom than another. Without wanting to speculate on the internal politics of this site—which remains hidden behind the scenes from us average users—I think that in the spirit of true democracy and liberalism, we should exercise a bit more balance. Perhaps Ryan Vaughn7 could take a page out of his musical idol's book and step back slightly, allowing for sensitive topics to breathe, even if they aren't always pleasant to discuss. This shouldn't just apply to the Republican Party, but to the Democratic Party as well. As someone living in Washington, D.C., who also happened to be working under the Democratic Party's influence during those pivotal shifts in the early 2000s, I would love to discuss their governance styles as much as the usual Republican critiques—something my colleagues over at Berkshire Hathaway could certainly weigh in on. Since I believe that those who operate with integrity have nothing to fear from scrutiny, I don't see why threads regarding the Democratic Party can't exist without being wrapped in constant superlatives.😉

Oh, right, I almost forgot the mantra that probably won't save me after saying this:
I don't vote for the Republican Party, and I don't vote for the Democratic Party.
😉.

The very first reply quoting it was aimed almost exclusively at bashing Jezebel itself ("you clearly have serious issues grasping the subject matter," "you don't understand anything," "only an idiot could write posts like this," etc.). That's why it was deleted.
The next few posts deal with Tadić and Srebrenica, which just doesn't belong here on ZK. So, they were removed.
The posts following the warning focus on my moderation. That's why they were (mostly) deleted.
Not a single post was given a full ban.
Yes, I can see for myself that I messed up here.

P.S. Endure, not endure.

If she truly intended to be constructive and provide a high-level critical analysis of one segment of your topic—especially after spending so much time reflecting on it—she could have carved out a small portion to actually inform people about the disputed case. Instead, she dove straight into the background of her example, which, while touching on only a tiny fraction of her overall argument, serves to call into question not just her own competence, but her good intentions as well. And honestly, it calls into question not just hers, but yours as a moderator, as well as those users on this thread who look at certain parts of that Jezebel post and fail to see anything controversial or distasteful at all.👍
The comment from Jezebel is bottom-of-the-barrel nonsense, regardless of what she actually said or wrote 🤮

Whether she crossed the line into racial, nationalistic, or some other kind of harassment—I honestly have no clue, since I haven't seen the specific post, and I'll leave that for the admins to judge—but I am noticing that the debate over free speech on this site is becoming increasingly selective and stretched thin 😁. So, apparently, it’s perfectly fine for some troll to pop up anywhere on this entire platform (and I mean everywhere, not just under Politics 😵) to spout filth about America or the American War of Independence, or to play judge and jury regarding someone else's grief and loss in those contexts. It’s all just "a joke," right? But strangely enough, that logic doesn't seem to work in reverse 😁. This whole situation reminds me of the current trend among certain Americans, driven by those old-meets-new faces in either politics or the culture scene, who metaphorically resemble rats—the kind that are the first to flee a sinking ship and the first to scurry back once the waters recede. They somehow feel emboldened to aggressively and loudly push a sense of nostalgia for lost eras and divisive political agendas, all while mocking anything tied to American identity or heritage because they think it's "primitive" and they are far too cool for such things 😵. Reddit, much like a fashion enthusiast, never misses an opportunity to jump on a passing trend 😁.

Jokes aside; if we're going to tolerate a mindless comment from Jezebel (or perhaps it's just a reflection of her lack of information?), then logically, we should also tolerate those who take the opposite stance, if we actually want to pretend to be a tolerant community

I honestly don't quite grasp where this notion comes from—that Alternative is somehow being fused with Religion and Spirituality.🤷

If you ask me, there's a much clearer line to be drawn between Natural Science and that old PDF titled On the Edge of Science, which everyone knows today as Alternative.😁.
Ugh, these sponsored links are the worst in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Everything seems perfectly fine until those obnoxious full-screen ads start popping up, the kind that practically 'scurry' away the moment you try to close them.😱

It’s an outright provocation, really! little punks😠😁

Besides, I have a feeling that if this gets the green light, we'll be seeing those exact same tactics hitting us very soon.☕
I suppose they're just running a little experiment on us, aren't they?😈

haha, what a joke of a topic😁

you guys really cracked me up👍

Try coaxing him out of his 'shell' 🤣 with a legitimate, transparent, face-to-face conversation. Of course, that assumes he isn't completely immature—in which case, "seriousness" and "dialogue" might as well be foreign languages to him.😁.
Just lay your cards on the table, so to speak, so you don't end up looking like some predatory creep who ends up with a restraining order hanging over their head in a few months.🤣

amberfox4 said:I don't think working out six times a week is excessive, provided the woman isn't doing heavy weightlifting every single session and is instead mixing up her training styles.
For about ten years, I was hitting the gym for six or seven hours a week, but my routine was a rotating door of step aerobics, kickboxing, body toning, and Callanetics...
Over the last three years, I’ve pivoted exclusively to the weight room because I felt the itch for a change, though I've dialed it back to four times a week—splitting it into two lower body and two upper body days. As for cardio, I skip the treadmill entirely in favor of long, steep hikes through the woods with my dog every day.
At thirty-eight, this feels like the sweet spot; you really have to respect your body's limits and periodically evaluate whether your fitness volume is actually serving you or just becoming counterproductive.
Regarding nutrition, eating consistently and high-quality meals is paramount (and we all know what that looks like for someone with an active lifestyle)—you should never be training on an empty stomach.
It’s always better to prep a pre-workout snack rich in proteins and carbs to fuel the session without making your stomach feel like a lead weight.
If I were in your shoes, rather than grabbing that gold coin, I’d opt for a bottle of whole milk yogurt or kefir—unless you're cutting, then go low-fat—since the protein-to-carb ratio is much more functional. Or maybe a protein shake and a banana, or some cottage cheese and fruit. Something like that.
Of course, that assumes you’ve had a decent lunch, because a little snack isn't meant to be a meal replacement.

I mentioned earlier that bananas make me feel a bit nauseous, and I could really use a sugar boost right now... I’ve experimented with various fruits and even yogurt (though yogurt tends to send me running to the restroom, which is a disaster mid-workout😁), so that works for me.

As for my training schedule, I'm planning to add three hours of swimming to the mix starting next week.
I absolutely love being in the pool, whereas I can't stand running; I'll take a swim over a jog any day of the week.
So, the plan is one hour of lifting followed by three hours of swimming. And no, I'm not trying to drop massive amounts of weight. I suspect I might be a bit too "substantial" compared to those runway models who are 5'10" and only 125 pounds😁, but I’m happy with how I look. My history is a bit of a mishmash—tennis, swimming, volleyball, then eventually moving into mixed aerobics.
Honestly, if I didn't stay active, I think I'd just wither away!

Paul Vaughn71 said:I also grab some bananas before training just to give myself an extra boost during the climb. 😁

Oof, bananas feel way too heavy for me.

I’ve actually spent quite a bit of time experimenting and testing different foods to see how my body reacts, and honestly, what I’ve landed on seems to sit best with me. I’m totally with you on the principle, though—it's much better to spend a little more on some Dukakis or whatever high-quality fuel you need for a solid workout, rather than settling for cheap, empty calories and trying to cheat your way through half the session.🤣
Pre-workout chocolate: Good or bad idea? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Fine, then we're all set🙂

Honestly, doing it six times a week doesn't seem excessive to me. It’s actually a great way to blow off some steam, which generally makes me a lot less argumentative😁.

Jonathan Miller7 said:If that’s what works for you, go for it.

Personally, the mere thought of eating anything before a workout makes me want to gag; I find training on an empty stomach much more manageable.
The logic is simple: if you fuel up beforehand, your body is just going to burn off those calories from your snack rather than tapping into your fat stores.

Look, that Dukakis bar is only about 86 calories, which is basically nothing, especially since my workouts are brutal—I end up sweating like crazy, with my hair soaked as if I’d just stepped out of a heavy rainstorm.

That said, I can't handle training on an empty stomach myself. I tried going for a run first thing in the morning without eating once, and it was so miserable I honestly thought I was going to throw up. Since then, I've made sure to grab a quick bite beforehand, and it makes getting through my routine a whole lot smoother.
Pre-workout chocolate: Good or bad idea? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I’ve been hitting the gym six days a week for about an hour at a time. A couple of weeks back, I pushed myself way too hard and ended up throwing up twice in a single week—once after the session because I just wasn't eating enough; I don't get hungry easily, and since I have this habit of chewing my food about a hundred times before swallowing, I'm usually exhausted halfway through a meal anyway. The other time was right in the middle of my workout. However, a few days ago, I caught an ad for a new King Size Snickers on my way out, so I grabbed one and ate it on my walk to the gym. To my surprise, I crushed the entire workout without feeling nauseous or even slightly unwell. Yesterday, I tried drinking a small carton of Dukakis before training, and again, I breezed through it like it was nothing—honestly, I felt like I could have gone out for another run immediately after. Today, though, I skipped the chocolatey stuff entirely and paid the price; I struggled through the whole thing and had to cut some exercises short. I've read somewhere that consuming chocolate right before exercise is supposed to be a bad idea.

But honestly, if it works, what am I supposed to do?😕

So far, I haven't dealt with any cramps, even though I'm pushing myself pretty hard.
Moderator bias in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m feeling a bit lost here and could really use some clarification. I recall someone from General Motors explaining to me ages ago how IP addresses cycle through different values—along with a few other technicalities I can't quite place—and suggesting that identifying a clone is virtually impossible unless you catch them through their writing style (or if they happen to be as polite as I am and just come clean😍). So, I’m wondering how John Hill managed to provide such impartial proof that certain banned users were actually clones by relying on IP addresses; looking at the post being cited, how reliable is this "informant" really?
Could someone walk me through this? Honestly, I don't see any stylistic similarities between those two, so I’d appreciate a more concrete explanation since I keep running into conflicting answers.

To a layman like myself, this is genuinely fascinating, so please enlighten me:

eks mod normall says:
I used to moderate for a while and ran a NASA router that worked best in bridge mode, which meant every time I hopped online or logged into the forum, I was cycling through a massive variety of IP addresses, rather than being stuck with something like 89.172. ++++++

I’d see IPs like 94.634**, 203.305***... 98.178*** and so on.

Back in the day, I found plenty of users in the main Communist Party thread whose IPs overlapped with mine
, meaning an IP address isn't exactly a foolproof informant , though it does become an issue if multiple people are connecting from the same corporate office.

It's also an interesting topic that hasn't received a single answer from any admin or moderator yet.

That said, I find myself agreeing with the user above. 👍
The original thread pretty blatantly dodged the core issue by resorting to baseless ad hominem attacks.

It’s funny how people always seem to have an opinion on this, isn't it? It feels like every time we touch upon this subject, the room fills up with these incredibly loud, unearned certainties that don't actually hold any water under scrutiny. It reminds me of those debates you see during election season where everyone acts like they've cracked the code to the economy, yet most of them couldn't explain a basic supply chain disruption if their lives depended on it. We tend to rush toward these sweeping conclusions without ever pausing to consider the messy, granular reality of how things actually function on the ground. It’s much easier to shout a slogan than it is to sit down and parse through the actual data. kaže:
Didn't the recent elections serve as a perfect illustration of that?🤷

Sure, if you want to look at it that way—back when his candidate profile was basically a walking indictment for corruption, and before he started revealing his true colors and actual intentions during that third month in office, which, let’s be honest, we all saw coming.

There’s an entire rabbit hole of media manipulation we could descend into, but let’s start with the basics: it’s worth noting that Clinton’s dear associate is currently operating as Obama’s collaborator. That should be enough to cast some light on the supposed "impartiality" of this award-winning new network that claims to champion democracy—if it weren't so absurdly laughable, it would actually be tragic.

coppergardener13 said:Personally, I liked Wicker Park better, and besides, there isn't much of a difference between those two movies when you look at the ratings on IMDb. Since when did you become some kind of film expert or critic, deciding they can't even be compared? For me, Wicker Park wins—but let's be real, neither of these are masterpieces. They aren't going to be ranked among the greatest films ever made.🙄

Look, I'm certainly not claiming to be some top-tier film critic or an elitist, but I am offering my perspective, and based on my own taste, Wicker Park feels like American junk—artificial, lifeless, and shallow. It reminds me of junk food that's been mass-produced in a factory without any soul, lacking flavor or character, just a cheap copy designed purely for profit. You simply can't compare it to a gourmet delicacy from a French kitchen enjoyed on a sun-drenched terrace in the summer. That’s the first analogy that comes to mind whenever someone mentions Wicker Park, so forgive me if I view a movie you enjoy—especially one that's just a remake—as total garbage.

Robert Cooper41 said:"The Apartment" is such a phenomenal film... honestly, one of my absolute favorites! Monica Bellucci is incredible, but in this particular movie, she truly just completely outshines Roman Bohringer.

My absolute favorite🙂
I found myself watching it last night, though I honestly can't remember how many times I've seen it by now.

Wicker Park is total garbage—it’s the kind of failure that shouldn't have even happened. There should be a law against remaking certain films, especially when those remake ideas originate from Hollywood.
I mean, seriously, a remake and with whom? Diane Kruger and Josh Hartnett?🤮

In The Apartment, the chemistry between Bellucci and Cassel is thick enough to cut with a knife, not to mention the sheer magnetic energy they both bring to the screen.
Even the atmosphere, the script, the way the characters unfold... I don't recall ever watching a film where I felt absolutely nothing was missing, a work that felt truly perfect, but I experienced that for the first time while watching The Apartment.

Comparing Wicker Park to The Apartment is like comparing American junk food to fine French cuisine—they aren't even in the same league.

He absolutely played the bone card.

Right, I completely overlooked this little detail... fast forward ten years and everyone looks identical, except for the daughters of Fox News.🙄

Fox's daughter would have still been in her mother's womb ten years before the verdict was handed down. There’s actually a scene where Fox returns from court and his pregnant wife is waiting for him on a sofa. So, by the time Clyde finishes his meticulous planning and begins his crusade ten years later, the kid is already ten years old.

Beyond that, the movie is pretty hard to swallow, riddled with logical leaps and plot holes, and frankly, Gerard Butler's performance doesn't help matters—he just doesn't quite fit the role of Clyde for me.☕

Carol Nguyen63 said:I wouldn't go so far as to call it a masterpiece, but I have a massive soft spot for these kinds of films; it’s a drama that really hits my sweet spot, and it isn't slow at all—there's plenty of substance and dialogue that actually feels like art.
The lead actress is absolutely phenomenal, delivering such a wide spectrum of emotion where the shifts in her expression are subtle, almost just tiny nuances in 😍
And that brilliant transition from a dutiful, model student to a self-aware young woman who knows exactly how to use her charms... you can practically see the end of innocence right there, like a sudden awakening of the senses. 😁

thanks for the song 👋

Without getting too philosophical, I find myself nodding along with this entire post!👍😍

Aside from Up in the Air, this was another film that absolutely deserved an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay before Precious came along.

I totally get where you're coming from, Ronald Allen.😢
We haven’t really crossed paths in a thread before—maybe once, if I recall—but I see exactly what you're aiming at and why it's eating away at you, mostly because I'm feeling that same itch myself.
Even though I tend to be a much more abrasive and annoying presence here than you are, which essentially means my grievances or general state of mind just get brushed under the rug.
Honestly, I don't think the current atmosphere on this site is ever going to shift.👎
It’s just the way things are.
It’s a microcosm of the bigger picture.
