I think the credibility of this entire subforum can be judged by one single fact: they recently permanently banned Endymion, who currently serves as a moderator for the PZ section, simply because he was deemed "inappropriate."☕
Back when the Alternative section was actually worth reading, it had some substance, but ever since they launched this insane campaign to ban anyone who dares to offer a concrete, reasoned argument that doesn't fit within the realm of science fiction—or even just questions the validity of someone's "ideas"—the whole thing has lost any semblance of purpose. Honestly, they might be better off renaming it "On the Edge of Intelligence," because you truly get the impression that this subforum exists solely to oppose common sense. Any kind of well-intentioned critique or logical counterpoint is strictly forbidden, which might be acceptable if the Alternative section were limited to ghost stories or, more accurately, fairy tales about lizard people and other nonsense. However, from what I can see, Alternative has turned into a breeding ground for various pseudo-doctors and amateurs peddling medical advice that has absolutely zero scientific basis or grounding in reality; meanwhile, those who attempt to point this out—as we are seeing in this specific thread—get permanently kicked out. The promotion of such content is incredibly dangerous and, if I'm not mistaken, potentially even illegal, which means this isn't just a problem with the Alternative moderators, but with the owner of the forum himself, who bears primary responsibility for all the content promoted on the site. In my opinion, the state of the Alternative section is catastrophic, and it is high time that those who agreed to run this forum finally took some actual responsibility for it.👎
I can’t quite wrap my head around why triggering a thread older than two years is such a massive deal, 🤷 especially since the rules should be universal and shouldn't fluctuate based on some arbitrary timeline. It feels a bit absurd—like if you decide to revive a discussion about, say, dental implants from back in 2004, the whole thing just gets immediately locked because you dared to bump an old topic. 😕
steeltiger2 said:Hey everyone! So, I’m posting here because I’m dealing with something a bit out of the ordinary—this intense, sickening jealousy that’s honestly going to wreck my relationship if I don't get a handle on it soon. I really don't want to keep dumping this on my partner anymore, but fighting it alone is just... it's exhausting. Honestly, I feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes, and there are moments where I act out without any self-control at all. I just need to make it stop. It doesn't make sense to keep living like this. Does anyone know if seeing a psychiatrist is actually worth it for something like this? Are there specific methods or approaches that can help kill this awful feeling? Has anyone here actually managed to pull themselves out of this kind of spiral on their own? If so, what would you suggest? Look, I know she’s normal to an extent, but when you're sitting there by yourself and everyone who knows you can see that this isn't just "cute" or "harmless" anymore—it's just pure misery.🤷
I think your first step should be sitting down with yourself to figure out where this jealousy is actually rooted.😉 What is it that you're truly afraid of? Why is this happening? What specifically is he doing that triggers this response in you?
boldjackal10 As I was saying: If you're actually telling me that Brian Edwards6 is who you're talking about, I honestly don't even know how to react; I’m sitting here in a state of total disbelief.
I have a feeling you absolutely are, if you catch my drift.😁

And then what's left behind... what exactly? 🤷 😁
Honestly, you should just start a proper thread over in Psychology, because this is actually an interesting question—why do people feel the need to have their own little corner? Is it driven by insecurity, or perhaps self-indulgence... or let's call it what it is, self-gratification, lol, maybe it's a desire for some internal sexist chatter, or whatever the reason may be. Let's see how people react to that. Or better yet, move it to Men's Corner if the ladies refuse to migrate it from Žkokošinjac.
As for me, I'll make sure to moderate it decently. FER? 😉 (Disclaimer: this isn't a Trojan horse)
I suspect this is just a bit of humor in the local style that would probably reach its peak if it were moved over to Men's Corner. The only guys on Men's Corner who could remotely be considered halfway decent ended up swarming the Women's Corner at one point just to mislead the author—whether that was due to chauvinism, sheer primitivism, or a touch of malice simply because she happens to be from the USA.
In my personal opinion, the only subforums where this topic stands a respectable chance are Psychology or perhaps Philosophy.

So, what prompted you to step down from the moderation team?😕 You really had a knack for it, too. I'm just hoping we don't see a massive influx of spam hitting Herp or florin kud anytime soon.😕 It would be a shame to lose one of the few decent voices left in this corner of the internet.
It’s quite fascinating how everyone who dared to voice a complaint about that particular moderator ended up getting banned, isn't it?🤔 Just a massive coincidence, I suppose.😉
I’m actually planning to marry the lead actor in a few months😍 🤣
He’s the sole reason I’d even consider sitting through this rom-com... though, if I'm being honest, I have a nagging feeling it’s probably going to leave me completely unimpressed
DJ, I’ve always found myself watching these three films with a certain sense of reluctance, almost as if I were doing it against my better judgment, though I watched them nonetheless😬 I have a nagging suspicion that the fourth installment isn't going to be any different, and I'll likely find myself sitting through it too🤣
In my book, the whole point of a horror movie is to actually strike fear into the audience. Personally, I find disaster films way more unsettling. Take something involving CERN accidentally triggering the creation of a black hole—obviously played up in a massive Hollywood fashion, of course.😁 Then you have the darker realities like human trafficking, exploitation, or child abduction.
Or even those creatures from other dimensions that slip through temporal rifts to snatch people away. The usual suspects like vampires, UFOs, and the like.🤷
Much appreciated, Christian Taylor3, for the heads-up, particularly regarding Okorijelima😉 . Once I manage to carve out some spare time and a bit of extra cash, I’ll definitely make a point of picking up those two books👍 .
Nicholas Walker3 said:Basically, movie reviews have nothing to do with cinematic art... and a movie is just a movie; there’s no room for genre tropes or making allowances for illogical plot holes because that’s just how the medium works. A genre defined by stupidity simply doesn't exist.😉
The film itself serves as the foundation of cinematic art. Analysis, in its own right, also falls under the umbrella of cinematic art. As for the second half of that sentence, I struggle to follow the logic, to put it mildly.😕 It is difficult to compare the beauty of a brunette to that of a blonde, much like how favoring one over the other is simply a matter of personal preference. Therefore, trying to compare a drama to an action flick is complete nonsense, for instance. (Batman vs Joker vs Lucky Strike?!) @David Price5/">@@David Price5, no, I wasn't watching Wolf Kingdom while exhausted, even though they aired it at 3 AM (complete idiots!!), but rather, during the actual viewing, it kept crossing my mind how I might articulate my fascination with the cinematography of certain scenes, the visual effects, and various other technical nuances for which I didn't have the proper terminology.
Sure, everything sounds lovely in theory, but I frequently run into posts on this forum where people condescendingly imply that the average viewer simply lacks the capacity to appreciate the nuances of certain high-concept works.
Take a movie like *No Country for Old Men*, for instance; personally, I found it excruciatingly dull. Yet, it managed to sweep the critics' circle with standing ovations. So, according to the self-proclaimed experts here, I clearly fall into that category of the unrefined masses who can't grasp true quality. It makes me wonder: what exactly constitutes the "scoring" criteria during a film analysis? I'd love to know how I might learn to appreciate excellence, because I don't particularly fancy thinking of myself as some kind of mindless swine being fed pearls before swine.😉
Watching Wolf Kingdom last night actually got me thinking about the fact that I have absolutely no clue how to actually analyze a movie.
Don't get me wrong, I love watching films and I love writing about what I've seen and felt, but every single time I go to open a thread about movies we've watched, I freeze up because I realize that beyond saying "it was good" or "it wasn't boring," I don't know what else to say.😕
I am a total amateur here, just someone eager to learn. However, since we are all still part of this group, I assume this topic was intended as a space where those with a background in cinema or at least some deep expertise could help us mere amateurs grasp the specific concepts required for a decent analysis.
What would someone with actual experience and cinematic knowledge say to the average viewer? How does one truly watch and analyze a film? What segments should be looked at, and which terms are essential to master?
Also, if you have any questions regarding confusing terminology, feel free to drop them here, hopefully finding someone willing to lend an answer.
* I’d just like to ask the moderators and the rest of the forum crowd to please refrain from bringing European cinema into a debate against American films. To be clear, this thread is strictly dedicated to European movies, without any comparisons to other continents.
Michael Ortiz68 said:European cinema is an incredibly broad category, so I’ll just stick to mentioning a few from roughly the last decade or so that I’d actually recommend:
Gomorrah Head-On Goodbye Lenin! Talk to Her De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté Sunshine The Experiment I'm Not Scared Mar Adentro Vera Drake....
There are plenty more out there, though who can recall them all on the spot?...
Hey! I've seen both Mar Adentro and Goodbye Lenin!😁 They're great movies!
Do you think you could suggest some good French or Italian films from the 70s or 80s?🙂
I went looking around, but I couldn't seem to find a dedicated thread just for international cinema outside of the US.
I have to admit, I rarely get any exposure to films made across the Atlantic. Since I'm not really familiar with the scene, I don't know much about the established works of various foreign directors.
I imagined this topic could serve as a space to discuss current or upcoming international releases, legendary overseas directors, or actors—including those from different parts of the world.
Also, I would be incredibly grateful if someone could suggest a solid international film or perhaps put together a "must-watch" list of global classics that one needs to see before they pass away.😳
boldhound8 said:Go ahead and enjoy yourself; honestly, I’m not exactly weeping over how things turned out, even if it might be a bit difficult for you to wrap your head around a development like this.😉
It would be hard for anyone else to imagine, but for you? Not at all.😉 🙂
