I noticed some shops have started stocking the ASUS H110M-R at a pretty decent price point. CLICK It’s sitting around $65 or so, supports up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, has 1x PCIe 3.0, 2x PCIe 2.0, 4x SATA 3, one DVI/HDMI/VGA combo, 4x USB 2.0, and 2x USB 3.0. Honestly, it looks like a solid little budget option for $133... Has anyone actually gotten their hands on this board yet? Think it'll play nice with an Intel i5 6400/6402 or maybe a 6500?
So, what’s the plan for upgrading the RAM and the hard drive? Are you planning on including both the HDD and the RAM in the new build, or are you sticking with what you've already got?

EDIT: Mind you, it's the XFX OC reference model, but even then, the price is just ridiculous.
Best Buy tends to be pretty pricey in general. Honestly, if you're paying cash at a more reasonable shop, a model like this should be closer to $0.67
Can you budge on the price just a little bit? It’s honestly a shame to pass up a better deal; going with the i5 is a massive upgrade for gaming compared to that AMD chip.
So, from what I can tell, even the guy above didn't include Windows in his offer 😁

Or, if you had Inter swap out the FX8300, the Giga GA-970, and the LC Cosmo for an Intel Core i5-4460 3.20 and an ASUS B85M-K, that’s what it would cost you $2076
Tyler Booth7 said:Thanks for all the input. I figured an upgrade wouldn't be on the table. Budget isn't really a huge deal—I can go up to $1167 easily. It's not like this is an emergency, so I don't mind waiting around until that new GPU actually hits the shelves. Once it does, I'll reach back out and maybe you guys can help me pull together a specific build. One more thing: what do you think I could get for my current parts if I decided to sell them (motherboard, CPU, RAM, and the graphics card)?
Look, if you aren't in a rush, there's another way. You keep your case, power supply, and hard drive, then just pick up:
That gives you a decent gaming rig with plenty of room to grow later. Or if you’d rather wait for that new card, you could go this route instead. Again, you keep the stuff mentioned above and grab:
Basically, after spending those $1.25, you'll have $0.46 left over, plus whatever cash you make from selling off your old parts. That should be enough dough to snag a nice, modern GPU when the new series launches this July. 👍
Look, he mentioned there wasn't a set budget 😁 but honestly, he really should have established a limit first. That way, we could actually plan and pick out the best parts possible. Without that, we're basically just flying blind here.

Here’s a budget build that's solid enough to handle pretty much anything at decent settings in 1080p. Expected performance should look something like this:
Grand Theft Auto 5 Fallout 4 Dark Souls 3 Dying Light Watch Dogs
If you prefer Intel over AMD and don't mind spending a little extra, you can go this route:
1x Dell UltraSharp 24" LED Monitor, VA LED panel, 1920x1080 resolution 1x ASUS B85M-K, s1150 1x Intel Core i5-4460 (6MB Cache, up to 3.40 GHz), s1150 1x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz CL11 Kingston Value 1x Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 950 WF2 OC 2GB DDR5, 128-bit, 1279/6600 1x HDD 1TB WD Blue, 3.5", 7200RPM, 64MB Cache, SATA3 1x Fortron Hexa 400w 80+ 1x Zalman Z1 mid tower
TOTAL: $1720 Free assembly and shipping IBM
Grand Theft Auto 5 Battlefield 4 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DOOM Far Cry Primal The Witcher 3
And one tier lower$1.25:
1x Dell UltraSharp 24" LED Monitor, VA LED panel, 1920x1080 resolution 1x ASUS Prime Motherboard, sFM2+ 1x AMD Athlon x4 840 (4MB Cache, up to 3.80 GHz), sFM2+ 1x LC POWER Cosmo Cool CC-95 1x Gigabyte GV-N75TD5-2GI, 2 GB DDR5, 128-bit, 1085/5400 MHz 1x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz CL11 Kingston Value 1x HDD 500GB Toshiba, 3.5", 7200RPM, 32MB Cache, SATA3 1x Fortron Hexa 400w 80+ 1x MS VOYAGER midi tower
Check in with your buddy about that offset voltage. I’ve run into the exact same headache you’re dealing with before, and it usually turns out someone had it hard-coded at 1.5V 😁
Ronald Bishop58 said:Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could suggest a decent CPU cooler for this build. It’s about a year and a half old, but lately, when I’m playing games, the rig starts overheating and just shuts down. Basically, my processor is overheating... :/
Thanks in advance!
1 x Intel Z77, AM3, AM3+, AMD 970, SB950, BUS 5200 MHz, DDR3
1 x ZALMAN CNPS 5X Performa, socket 775/1155/1156/AM2/AM2/AM3
Who installed that Intel and did you take it apart yourself? It might not be seated properly, which would explain the heat issues. Honestly, your best bet is to pull the cooler off, wipe all that old thermal paste off both the chip and the heatsink, put a fresh pea-sized amount right in the middle, and reseat it. See if that helps. Have you tried overclocking the CPU at all? Or messing with any settings in the BIOS? You should probably check the voltage settings in there.
Benjamin Wilson94 said:Hey, not sure if I'm even in the right sub for this, but whatever... Basically, I’m looking to pick up a cheap PC for under $200. It's strictly for browsing the web. If anyone can point me in the right direction on what to look for, I'd appreciate it. 👍
One with an LGA 1151 socket and DDR4 RAM.
I've got one ASROCK H110M-DGS on hand—standard LGA 1151 socket, supports DDR4. Simple, reliable little board. I've got one Intel Pentium G4400 on hand—3.30 GHz with a 3MB cache, running on the LGA 1151 socket. I've got a single 8GB stick of DDR4 RAM on hand—specifically that PC3-17000 2133MHz CL15 kit from Crucial. Just one module if anyone's looking to patch up an old rig. Just one 1TB WD Blue HDD. It’s a standard 3.5" drive running at 7200RPM with a 64MB cache via SATA3. Nothing fancy, just a reliable workhorse for extra storage. Just picked up a single Fortron Hexa 400W 80+ unit. I've got one MS Voyager MIDI tower up for grabs.
Total: $667 Free assembly and delivery included. AMD
From what I can tell, smartic also went with the 2GB version. Honestly, when you're working with a budget this tight, you don't really have much of a choice anyway. Besides, if you're just aiming for 1080p gaming, it’s not like it's going to make a massive difference. The gap in Frames Per Second between the 2GB and 4GB models is pretty negligible—though, obviously, if you have the extra cash to swing the 4GB version, you should go for it.
You could actually stretch your budget a bit here and go with an LGA 1151 setup plus DDR4. It really opens up the door for a decent i5 upgrade down the road:
1x MSI H110M PRO-D, LGA 1151, DDR4-2133, Military Class 4 1x Intel Core i3 6100 1 x Corsair 1x Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133 Value 1x Gigabyte Radeon R9 380 WF2 OC, 2GB GDDR5, HDMI, DVI 1x XFX 500W XT Series 80 Bronze, XFX-P1-500B-XTFR 1x MS VOYAGER case (no PSU)
Total: $1233
By the way, this Gigabyte R9 380 still has an extra year of warranty left on it. Plus, it runs a lot quieter and stays cooler than that XFX card
