Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Ronald Cox96 said:So, is it actually possible (theoretically) to run into kidney issues if you're on supplements long-term? I’m currently working my way through my third tub of Optimum 100% Gold Standard Whey... been at it for about six months now, taking one to one and a half scoops every single day. Honestly, it's the only supplement I take, but lately—over the last week—I've been feeling this dull ache on both sides near my kidneys. Maybe the best move is just to take a break and see if the pain goes away... ☕

It really shouldn't be an issue, but honestly, it wouldn't hurt to get some blood work and a urinalysis done just to be safe... purely for peace of mind

If you want my two cents, I’d definitely go with either Dymatize or Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard...

Besides just basic Protein powder, what else would you suggest for someone trying to pack on some muscle mass? I'm hitting the gym for weight training about 4 or 5 days a week...

Why would you even want to avoid Protein?? It won't do much for you unless your diet is totally dialed in first (think chicken, eggs, tuna, fish, lean meats, oats, etc.—basically 5 or 6 solid meals a day)

slyrider7 said:Look, I can tell you exactly how it went for me. I dropped about 18 pounds in just two and a half months by hitting the gym three times a week.
An hour before my workout, I’d take some L-carnitine, start with an hour of cardio—running or using the elliptical—and then follow that up with 45 minutes of weights and machines (my buddy put the plan together for me). After the session, I’d just toss back some Protein.

Breakfast was non-negotiable every morning—either some cereal or toast with turkey or chicken breast slices.
For lunch: I made sure to eat at least two full meals a week where I actually used a fork and knife, plus tons of veggies and salads along with various meats (just nothing fried!). In the afternoons, I’d grab a probiotic supplement and an apple.
Dinner was usually something light, or maybe an Inkos Muscle Gainer with 85% protein... it works great as a meal replacement instead of grabbing a sandwich.

I completely cut out white bread, pastries, puff pastry, mayo, fast food, Coke, beer, and all that stuff.

I went from 230 lbs down to 211 lbs (I'm about 6'4"), and since I haven't been training lately—summer happened, people are drinking and eating more...—I actually gained a couple of pounds back.
Now, I'm starting a new cycle. My goal is to hit 203 lbs.

It’s tough at first, but once you get moving, you feel a hundred times better... you just start doing it naturally!
My advice? Read as many posts on this topic as you can online. I went from knowing absolutely nothing to lecturing people about how bananas have a high glycemic index but are still an awesome source of potassium! 😁😁

Everything sounds good, but you definitely need to swap those two things around. Hit the weights first, then do the cardio. You want to give your absolute max during the lifting portion while your glycogen levels are still high. Then, after the weights, move into aerobic training—but don't go over 45 minutes, because that's not great for your muscles. Keep the post-weight cardio at a low intensity. Finally, after everything is done, go with Protein + dextrose mixed with water, not milk, just so the absorption is faster! 👍

Sean Ruiz42 said:I ended up crushing half a tub of whey protein from MVP Nutrition and I was hitting the gym every single day... managed to pack on about three pounds, but then I stopped taking it.
My creatinine levels were a little high in my bloodwork, mostly because my diet is all over the place and I just can't stop myself from devouring massive amounts of steak...

How long did it take you to finish half that tub? And was it a small 1lb container or a massive 10lb bag? Basically, I'm curious how much time passed before you saw that three-pound gain...

Can't get TV signal to show up on my Samsung P2470HD in Computer Peripherals ·
wanderingmason40 said:Alright, I managed to track down an HDMI cable so I can get everything connected to my PC...

Do you think that was the reason why my DirecTV signal wasn't showing up on the television?

I'll likely need to pick up a new HDMI cable at Best Buy, wouldn't you agree?

Just grab an HDMI cable—you can find them at any Best Buy or even a CVS. Plug one end into the monitor and the other into the cable box. Toss those old SCART and useless cables aside, hit the "source" button on the monitor, and select "HDMI"... simple as that!

Does it have an HDMI port? If it does, just hook it up through there... As for the SD card, it should work fine; I’ve got a similar monitor at my place and it works perfectly for me. Unplug all those extra cables, pop the SD card in, turn on DirecTV, and hit the "source" button—just keep clicking until you find the right input

Nathan Cox3 said:I'm looking at picking up a laser printer, and a buddy is offering me one from his office that's already clocked about 40,000 pages for $83... Does equipment like that have a certain lifespan, or is there a hard limit on how many pages they can actually churn out?

Should I grab it or pass...?

Does it actually have toner in it right now? If it's full, go for it! But if it's empty, be careful... just replacing the toner might cost you as much as buying a brand new printer.

By the way, if you're interested, I could sell you my Brother HL-L2300D for $67. It's only printed... maybe 500-600 pages total. The toner is low, though, and it's about a year old.

I've got a set of Klipsch Reference Series speakers...

Honestly, this looks like the absolute best deal out there...
I think I'm actually going to pull the trigger on this one...

Go get it! 👍

This sound card is leagues ahead of any integrated audio you'll find on a standard board...

Alternatively, you could grab an Audigy SE since it uses the exact same chip as this one, but honestly, there isn't much of a price gap... just go with the one above...

Is a $75 Sentinel Advanced mouse actually worth it? in Computer Peripherals ·
Timothy Scott25 said:I didn't say I hadn't used it, just that I didn't buy it. 😁 Roccat isn't overpriced at all. Don't even start comparing prices in the US to other places, because we all know how it works... if something is $100 in America, it might be $100 in Europe, but once it hits certain markets, it jumps way up. So basically, what costs $167 in the States ends up costing $400 here... I mean, I'm being a bit ironic, but the markup on retail prices compared to the actual wholesale cost in local shops is just massive... For example, if a Sapphire HD5870 Toxic is $480 in the US, if it ever actually made its way over here, it would be $867. It probably wouldn't even show up, and if it did, it would be like an Eyefinity 6 setup—way more expensive than a 5970. Just tell me, what am I supposed to buy? 😁

Bottom line is, Razer is decent, but personally, I think Roccat is better. It really bugs me when people put Razer on a pedestal without having any real reason to... they just want to make a quick buck off us. And honestly, the guy could have easily $120 picked up a DeathAdder or maybe a Roccat Kova for $450, or whatever else was out there... He was clearly just drawn to the fact that it looks like a Lamborghini Reventon, lights up like a Christmas tree, and boasts over 5000 DPI... as if he’s running a 30" monitor and actually needs all that. Personally, I never went above 800 DPI on my old mouse and everything was perfectly fine...

I absolutely agree with this. 👍

Timothy Scott25 said:Come on, would you actually drop $167 on a mouse with unproven specs? Personally, I’d never waste my cash on Razer. I’d go for Roccat—which is what I did—or maybe SteelSeries. Logitech is alright, but they're overpriced. Razer is just one of those damn hyped brands... seriously, how many actual pros are playing on Razer? And honestly, what's the ROI there? Which Razer mouse even has a TCU like Roccat does? Anyone can slap some LEDs in a mouse to make it look flashy, but finding that sweet spot where it looks great, stays affordable, AND maintains high quality? That's nearly impossible... American companies love using flashy ads to brainwash people—clearly, they've pulled that off here too👎...and I honestly thought people over here were a bit smarter than that... if someone messes up and buys the wrong mouse, they'll just flip it online and someone else will pick it up😁

Wait, so you think Roccat isn't overpriced, but Razer is? Is that it? 😂

Actually, way more pros use Razer than you think... and besides, why trash Razer when you've never even used one before?...

Timothy Scott25 said:Look, don't fall for that mainstream hype and go out buying a Razer... honestly, it's just like buying a Dell computer... you pay a massive premium when you could have spent that money on a custom build that actually performs... so... I'm not sure why nobody suggested the Roccat Taito pad to you...

Smartass 🙄

Yeah. You really should have gone with the Roccat Taito... your luck would've turned around instantly, guaranteed!!!
