Gaming PC + monitor build under $600 in Desktops ·
Grab this one instead; it comes with a 36-month warranty

The price is identical, and honestly, a TN panel is better for gaming anyway. Plus, General Electric hasn't been in this game for ages—it's just some low-end Chinese brand now. I've had my Dell Benq gw2250 for five years already, running at least 10 hours a day, and it still holds up perfectly.

The 1060 6gb goes for $800 while the 1070 is about $433 more expensive, even though it's roughly 30-40% faster depending on the game. It’s just not worth it; honestly, buying high-end cards has never been a great move since they lose their value so fast.

You should swap out that power supply immediately. It’s only putting out 240 watts on the +12V rail, and honestly, given how old it is, it’s completely unreliable. My advice? Just toss it!

Just grab the ASUS EZ update from the ASUS motherboard site for 7 64-bit and you can use it to update the BIOS

Any further clocking requires bumping up the voltage and all that other junk that just heats the CPU right up. Obviously, your thermal headroom and specific cooler type dictate how high you can push the clock. And at the end of the day, the whole thing needs to stay rock-solid under load. Overclocking exists because the multipliers are unlocked, but Intel doesn't guarantee longevity or stability when you start messing with it. That's my take, anyway. Thermal stress and those constant spikes in workload are definitely going to shorten a processor's lifespan—especially if someone tries to pull max performance using some pathetic, cheap aftermarket cooler.

It's fine; my whole family uses this PC and since I'm not home all the time, I'm not risking much with OC. My CPU stays on the ASUS default turbo mode, and I'm using more than enough cooling for that.
My plan is to pick the fastest possible CPU compatible with my board and maybe try a little turbo OC, staying within that near 100% safety zone.

Ugh, I haven't visited the ASUS pages in years.
Update BIOS
Version 3603(Only for WinXP & Vista)

My BIOS is 0902 from Sep/2011.

So what now? This BIOS version isn't meant for Windows 10 64-bit.

The version of Windows you're running doesn't matter for the BIOS.

Kimberly Gomez34 said:It certainly works that way too, but the whole point here is to unlock that hyperthreading. Moving away from quad-core architecture is key. Plus, you end up with the most powerful CPU available for that socket, which gives you some peace of mind. IMO, that frees up enough budget for him to grab a solid GPU upgrade, maybe something in the GTX 1070 or 1080 range.

If he picks up an RTX 3080 for $3200-$1167 I don't think he'd see any bottlenecking at 4.5ghz

I'd actually go with an i5 2500k over an i7 3rd generation. Honestly, if you have decent cooling, you can probably push it to 4.5GHz, which makes anything better than that unnecessary for me.

$833 with shipping, $40 it's pricier than this old BenQ.
Why doesn't this BenQ have DisplayPort?

The BenQ is a 2155, and the difference is $115 just basic math.

I'll pick it up right away, just tell me where I can find it for $667😵

I've been looking at some options up to about $667, so I'm not quite sure which way to lean. If anyone has any solid recommendations for a good gaming monitor around $667, let me know.

Go ahead and find me a single review where an Intel SSD actually outperforms a Samsung one!!!
If those office machines are running on the same motherboards, they likely only support 60-75 watts via PCI Express, which makes any serious gaming pretty much impossible.

Your graphics card is compatible with that monitor, but you won't be hitting 144 fps when playing demanding games.

Adam Moore3 said:It’s not for me—it’s for a friend—but I don't see an issue with getting the $267 instead of the 700 if there's a noticeable difference. I know Samsung is the best buy, but we're talking prices approaching $300 now. Basically, the MX seems like a solid middle ground. You can't find the MX in Cleveland, but I can order it from San Diego; waiting a few days isn't a big deal.

Yep, I figured it couldn't just be $33 cheaper without any actual trade-offs. There definitely is one.

All in all, the MX seems like the way to go. I think I'll just order it through Links to have it delivered.

If it's only a $1.50 difference for an extra 2 years of warranty, I'd still go with Samsung, but if money is tight, just get a standard drive.😁

One review.
The Samsung 850 evo is likely the most reliable SSD ever made. It’s easily the most popular choice on the market right now, too. Honestly, this drive is in a league of its kind, which is why Samsung can afford to price it $10-$20 higher than the competition.

Crucial MX300 is a great SSD as well. While it doesn't quite match the Samsung 850 evo in terms of performanca, it remains a solid, dependable drive from a top-tier manufacturer. In my opinion, Crucial MX300 is The Best SSD in terms of performanca / value. That said, overall Samsung is Better.

Samsung 850 evo $291 because it comes with a 60-month warranty and is honestly one of the best drives on the market right now.
