PC + TV setup ideas? in Desktops ·
First, give this a shot: unplug the monitor from the GPU and just leave the TV connected. If that works, your drivers are fine. If you're using a clone setup, your CPU might just be struggling to handle both displays at once.

Since technical stuff isn't really my specialty, I’d love some recommendations on which option would be best, or maybe some similar alternatives in that same price range.

Adam Moore3 said:What? I've built four different rigs now (including my own, which is over six months old), and they all run perfectly without any issues. Where are you getting that from?

The last two ASUS R7 260 X cards I put together both have this exact issue. Just type "Google r7 260 x black screen" into the search bar and you'll see how common this problem actually is.

Don't bother picking up any ASUS R7 260 X cards. A lot of these units suffer from black screen issues when they're just idling—like when you're just browsing the web or watching an MP4 at low power consumption. The video signal just cuts out completely. It works perfectly fine under full load, though. Even with the latest AMD 14.12 Omega drivers, they still haven't found a fix for it.

If someone insists on buying a SanDisk Ultra SSD just because some kid is pushing Intel on them... I wouldn't judge anyone else for blowing their budget, but you really shouldn't be so blind to your own choices!

Dennis Carter3 said:If the motherboard supports a swap, just switch it over to an Intel setup since they have them in stock. Honestly, why bother with the hassle? A standalone CPU actually costs less than that APU or the FX 6300, performs twice as well, and you won't even need to shell out extra cash for an additional cooler.
It doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a dud just because it's from an online retailer like Newegg. Motherboards don't fail all that often, especially these non-overclocking models since there isn't much way to push them to the breaking point.

Motherboards fail all the time, and the issue with Newegg isn't that their hardware is lower quality—it's that their shipping, customer service, and everything else is just a total mess.

I'm planning to toss in a 500GB laptop drive, plus I have a 500GB external one, so I'll probably just grab this smaller SSD.

David Wood2 said:So how's that split up? Like, which components are getting the 15A and which ones get the 14A? My guess is they've got the transformers and stabilizers totally separate...

David Wood2 said:Anything is possible! 😁 Getting 34A on the 12V rail sounds pretty solid, especially since my current EVGA unit only puts out about 15A.

A. Enivej, thanks everyone for the advice, I'm gonna weigh all my options before making a call... 👍

Your EVGA actually has 29A (15 and 14) on the 12V rail, but it's just too old to deliver that much power anymore.

David Wood2 said:I’d definitely go with a beefier power supply. Right now, I’m running an EVGA 450 W, and while it holds its own for a bit, things get sketchy once I start overclocking my CPU to 3.5... It just can't handle the load. My graphics card keeps crashing out on me—the monitor just goes black...

You're comparing apples to oranges here. You've got an EVGA 500 W XFX providing 34 A on the 12V rail—plus, it's built by Seasonic—so it can handle that load easily. Your overclocked rig isn't even pulling 300 watts total.
