Fractal Design North build ideas?

Timothy Kim60 said:That’s the GP3 series from LC Power—an NVIDIA GTX 770 will easily handle half of what Kurtz does.
Besides, from what I can tell, he already owns it.

feralrider92 said:I'm planning on picking up a Fractal Design North because I really love the aesthetic and the features it offers, but as usual, I want to make sure it'll work with my current parts. Here’s what I've got:
ASRock H61M-S
NVIDIA GTX 770 Gainward
LC6560GP3 V2.3 - GREEN POWER
I don't think I need to list the rest. Thanks in advance.
If you're actually planning to run an NVIDIA GTX 770 on that power supply, then honestly, good luck to you...

Personally, I think this one looks way better, but hey, to each their own...
Budget Gaming Build under $500

What exactly is confusing you?
Are you even paying attention to which ASRock motherboard we're discussing here (not the post)? I didn't mention overclocking because this specific board isn't great for it anyway, regardless of availability.
I clearly need to spell everything out for you—I stated that Gigabyte isn't ideal for overclocking, and my post is actually responding to feralcanyon73, who is criticizing this board due to the FX 8320. If we're looking at the FX 6300, which draws less power and puts less strain on the board, a decent overclock of around 4.5GHz is doable, provided you have an adequate cooler like a Themis, Hyper 212, Prolimatech Basic 65, or something similar.
Just try finding a new 990 FX EX for $17 more than what the Gigabyte costs. 🤦
I wasn't talking about the 990, I was talking about
and the FX 6300. If there isn't going to be much overclocking, you don't need your Gigabyte; it's no better than this ASRock.

graniteharbor85 said:Your comment is totally irrelevant here. This person is looking for brand new gear, yet you're trying to push used parts that are practically extinct.
Gigabyte is the best budget choice alongside the ASUS M5A97 R2 if you're watching your wallet and don't care about overclocking.
You claim ASRock isn't good because of its overclocking potential, then you immediately contradict yourself...
For $17 more, the ASRock 990 FX Extreme 4 is actually an excellent board.

If you're struggling to overclock this processor on a motherboard where you're basically gambling on whether a BIOS flash will even allow it, I don't see that as enthusiasm—it just looks like being cheap.

Just let us know what you're currently running first, and give us a specific budget for the part you want to swap. We need a bit more info to help you out...

Winter is coming, so if you need some extra heat around the house, two GTX 480s would actually work great for heating. You'd need to pick up a power supply of at least $233 like an EVGA 750W, but personally, I wouldn't touch that kind of setup for anything.

Any ideas for a better PC upgrade?

Timothy Kim60 said:If you look at all those silly details, it’s clearly just a standard quad setup. You should grab a proper utility like CPU-Z; check what it says regarding your RAM timings and paste that here. You can pull the rest of your PC specs using tools like Speccy or Everest Ultimate.
Just a quick heads-up, Everest is pretty much ancient history—AIDA64 is what everyone uses now.

Check out this BenQ GW2250 2 monitor review.
I've had my BenQ GW2250 2 for about two years now, and it hasn't given me any trouble at all.

His processor is about 15-20 percent weaker in games than your i5, so making the switch is definitely 🙂

i5 vs. FX 83xx: What are your thoughts?

What kind of future are you envisioning? My take is that they won't be making the FX series in 2015, and Intel will most likely drop the 1151 socket sometime that year.

With roughly $3000 budget, do you think it would be possible to put together a build that is similar—if not actually more powerful—but just using a single GeForce GTX 970?
The GeForce GTX 970 is a laptop GPU, which is way weaker than the desktop version. You can't compare apples to oranges.

This build costs less than $3000 and offers twice the performance of that laptop. You really can't compare a desktop to a laptop; they are completely different beasts.

I think 8GB is the sweet spot these days, and I feel like mellowtiger83 is just being a bit unlucky here..
Games like Watch Dogs and COD Ghosts really need more than 4GB of RAM, so please don't try telling me that 4GB will still be enough for these titles in 2015.
