Back to the topic for a second. After nearly two months of feeling like I was sinking, I’m finally starting to breathe again. I got my hands back on that CD I always use for my morning pranayama meditation... and honestly, I can't recommend it enough—AYURVEDA BUDDHA LOUNGE VOL. 1 😍 I know, sounds a bit commercial, but it’s perfect for morning pranayama—basically just getting your breathing rhythm right. It’s like you’re sitting by a riverbank, deep in the woods, or high up in the mountains... you just get pulled into it. After ten minutes of pranayama, the relief is instant. All that weight that's been pressing down on me lately? It starts lifting. Everything feels lighter, clearer, and I actually feel some resolve again.
Spring and fall are really the best times for this kind of meditation. Your body isn't fighting the cold or the heat, so you can actually feel the prana much more easily and intensely.
Thanks for the reminder, man. Makes me want to go back and listen to In A Priest Driven Ambulance again. It’s a solid record. Perfect for one of those late spring afternoons when the sun is setting just right and you're just driving somewhere...
You can really tell it's from before they hit Death, back when everything was still exploding with those pop melodies...
Not sure why you're comparing dEUS to The Flaming Lips, but hey, everyone's entitled to their own vices 😁 What I'm selling, I'm selling, but I've still got until the end of May to wrap this up... hopefully I make it! 😉
Anyway, I checked, and Jonathan is actually credited in the band on hit to Death and Priest Driven Ambulanci, but honestly, his work with Lips seems to have had more of an impact on him, especially since Lips was already an established band by then, whereas Mercury Rev wasn't really a thing yet
Edward Robinson6, that's why you really need to give Hit to Death a listen... they even played in Beverly Hills with Transmissions back in 20310 or whatever it was 😁...she dont use jelly 😉
I haven't properly listened to Priest Driven yet... maybe it'll click now! It's louder than Hit to Death... N future Head
Nah. So, Jonathan used to be a roadie for The Flaming Lips, jumping in on guitar here and there before he eventually started Mercury Rev. If Mercury was heavily shaped by the influence of the Lips—especially considering the lineups before and even now, as far as I know—how could the Lips have actually come out of Mercury?...
feeling pretty wiped out... just staring at the water... everything's moving so slow...
Nah... I don't just sell everything I own! Where on earth did you get that impression? 😁...especially regarding The Flaming Lips. They're one of my absolute favorites... right up there with Yo La Tengo.
That Priest Driven Ambulance double release isn't really my thing. The earlier stuff, before The Flaming Lips, is just okay for me... but I'm still hunting for Zaireek. 😉 🙂
So, indirectly, you can trace the roots of Mercury Rev back to The Flaming Lips... if you don't believe me, just give YERSELF is steam a spin...👍 Another total masterpiece... haven't listened to it in ages...
Honestly, good riddance when it fails. Music that turns into a cliché dies once people get sick of that trope. The stuff that actually rises above it? That’s what lasts.
So yeah, it's probably for the best. Funhouse burned out a long time ago... they should have fallen apart back in the 20s... right when they were hitting their stride... if you haven't evolved by then, something's going wrong with your growth 😉
It wasn't even really Nirvana at that point... just a half-dead Kurt barely playing anything in front of some screaming crowd of girls. Saw a recording later... it was pretty low energy...
