Yeah, good luck when that temperature hits 140°F inside that bubble—that's gonna be a blast.

Do the math on the surface area hitting the sun versus the actual cockpit volume under there.

I didn't say who was watching—just that he’s the only living witness who actually saw it happen firsthand.

If Prishtina had won the title in '86 with McLaren, then they would've taken it in '87 with Ferrari too. And let's be real, Ferrari '87 is a straight-up championship car.

Just like the Ferrari from 1990.

And we all know exactly how that same damn Ferrari looked just a year earlier when it was being driven by that Alpine hack you guys love so much.

But saying someone could’ve been champ with a Ferrari back in '87? What even is that?
TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT?
Was the '87 Ferrari actually championship material?

Yeah.

If you don't believe me, just ask Goofey. He's basically the only living witness to the 1987 season on this entire forum.

It was ages ago, so I might be fuzzy on some specifics.
Long story short: Both Rubens and Gerhard were classic peak-performance drivers who happened to be number 2s—so they had the "luck" of basically being water boys for the lead driver. And honestly, it hasn't changed. You aren't winning championships when you're running alongside Senna or Schumacher.
Plus, look at Berger—he actually got two years as the lead guy at Ferrari alongside Alborett, while the other guy (I think he meant Ferkan) barely limped to the finish line every other race.
Take 1987 for example—that was 9 retirements, and Alboreto 10. What does that say about the car?
Even if you took a literal Martian—a perfect blend of the absolute best talent—and put them in that Ferrari, they wouldn't have been an F1 champ ever. The legends driving lead roles—Prost, Senna, Mansell, Piquet—only had like 2, 3, or 4 retirements.
Same deal in 1988.
And don't even get me started on 1989, where there were 12 DNFs.
Then Senna just stepped up to gather data and cover his own back. End of story.

Don't embarrass yourself.

Instead, explain how Prost almost snatched the title in 1990 using a car that was barely updated from the one Berger failed to win anything with in 1989.

Especially since Mansell had the exact same success in both '89 and '90.

So, it’s clearly not the car.

1990 really exposed Berger. That was the year everyone realized Berger was a mediocre driver, not a great driver stuck in a junk car like people used to claim.

Sadly, some people still believe that crap today, even after having 26 whole years to wrap their heads around what happened in the 1990 season.

If Gilles Villeneuve were still around, he’d have cruised to that 1987 title in that Ferrari—no questions asked. Same goes for Ayrton Senna.

I mean, just look at Gerhard Berger’s stats from '90 and '91 driving a proven championship car... they're actually worse than what happened back in '87.

Please don't even try putting Rubens Barrichello and Gerhard Berger in the same breath—regardless of whether the logic actually holds up. 😉

How on earth is Berger better than Barrichello?

Both guys looked like future world champions right up until they ran into a dominant driver who just owned the field.

They’re basically identical drivers with nearly identical career paths.

The only real difference is Berger caught a slightly better break—he was in that Ferrari alongside a fading Alain Prost, which made him look way better than he actually was.

That 1987 Ferrari was a championship car. Too bad they didn't have a driver capable of winning the title.

Give me a break.

Nico Rosberg is a title contender about as often as Rubens Barrichello was at Ferrari or Gerhard Berger was at McLaren.

We haven't seen a team with such a clear #1 and #2 driver in ages.

Nico Rosberg is a contender only if Lewis Hamilton gets injured. And I mean actual physical injuries—we aren't counting mental ones, because even when he's mentally checked out, he can still beat Rosberg.

McLaren looks totally fine to me

Seems like by this third season, nose designs have just become standardized across the whole grid naturally.

Pretty sure they all look more or less identical at this point.

Jerry Moore61 said:My buddy tells me they burned through about 25 days in R&D just working on that nose design.

Basically, the whole point was to see how that nose and S-duct combo would play out during testing—plus a few other bits.
That’s why they didn't even bother ordering supersofts or ultrasofts. They just grabbed some mediums and a couple of softs they didn't even touch, since durability was the big goal here.

I think your buddy might need to find a new career path.

Leaking info this blatant during preseason is straight-up scandalous.

You can take the guy out of the gutter, but you can never take the gutter out of the guy.

mellowtiger83 said:Am I really asking for too much, ruggedhawk20? Just waiting for an era where two teams actually fight for the title—you know, where drivers from different squads go head-to-head and the cars aren't complete trash compared to each other. Is that a huge stretch?

Dominance isn't even the real issue facing Formula 1—not by a long shot. Honestly? It’s actually pretty damn fun to watch someone run away with it.

If Formula 1 actually let loose—you know, if Mercedes finally showed what they’re actually capable of—everyone would be losing their minds wondering how many cars they're rolling out to Australia. Would it just be the usual two? Or did they decide to just screw everyone over and show up with six? Imagine the chaos by Friday morning before the race—trying to figure out who's even behind the wheel. Is it just the regulars, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, or are they throwing guys like Maximilian Buhk, Robin Frijns, or maybe even Will Power into the mix?

Man, if they actually pulled off that kind of dominance—it would be freaking glorious.

That's just not how it works—not that we actually know for sure that Mercedes is gonna roll up with exactly two cars. Not one more, not one less. And like, they'll show up at every single race this season with exactly two cars, both painted the exact same color for some totally random reason nobody can explain...

That’s just the state of Formula 1 right now—total mess.

Not exactly a blowout, either.

Honestly, if Vettel was actually redlining it on pure fumes yesterday, then the whole season is basically over already...

That protected design for the number 3

It just goes to show—nobody in America actually watches F1 since nobody’s sued them yet.

The whole thing is because RCR owns the rights to that specific number 3 design.

There was even a movie about Dale Earnhardt that used it at the start, but the producers had to scrub it after RCR came down hard on them.

Oh, and heads up—it's basically been 15 years since we lost the original #3.

Testing the 2014 race car

The FIA has officially lost the plot—this is just straight-up tacky

The part that really gets under my skin is this:

"No competitor may sell or make available any such car to any third party without the prior authorisation of the FIA."

Thank God I’m not racing in Formula 1—if I were, I’d shove a 2014 race car directly up Jean Todt's ass for even suggesting a rule like this

Look, if the race car is mine, I can do whatever the hell I want with it, whenever I want—I can sell it to whoever I feel like, for whatever price I set, without asking some bureaucrat for permission.

As someone who values freedom above pretty much everything else, I just don't get it. I might be able to wrap my head around the FIA, but I will never, ever understand the people who bow down to them. It's just not happening.

Those ten teams could easily run their own private series tomorrow without needing a single blessing from the FIA, and nobody could stop them. We live in a free country, after all. But clearly, these people have the mindset of having to grovel to fake authorities like Bernie, Todt, and those other freaks.
