Checked it out. Out of about five or six apps, they’re all either disabled or totally gone, except for uTorrent. Now even that one’s been disabled too. Honestly, things were running fine yesterday and earlier today, but once the glitch hits, I try to reload the page or jump back into the thread, and nothing works. It just keeps happening... maybe 15 or 20 times now.
I mean, if nobody minds, I guess we can just leave this thread up for a few more days. Might be worth seeing if anyone else is dealing with this crap or if it starts happening again.

Google Chrome.
I don't have it.
I mean, I guess I’m just wondering if I'm actually the only one dealing with this mess, or if it's happening to everyone else too.

So I hit the quote button and this whole writing window pops up, but there’s absolutely nothing in it—no quoted text at all.
It feels like it's happening more often lately.
I tried searching for a thread about this, but came up empty. I mean, I can't be the only one dealing with this, right?
Discipline: What is it, really? in Psychology ·
brightridge59 said:I feel like my ability to rationalize things has been slipping lately. 🤣

Not really; it’s much easier to just sit around and lament about having poor motivation ☕

That’s true. Especially with this massive blizzard dumping snow all over the neighborhood right now. 😬

If you repeat an action enough times, yes, it shifts into autopilot, and at that point, it doesn't have much to do with discipline, which is usually tied to willpower and conscious effort.

Most of our daily routines are just repetitions of habits we picked up when we were kids, or things that didn't require much mental struggle to become second nature.

That is why I was asking how one actually disciplines themselves to tackle those tasks that weren't part of our upbringing or forced upon us by our parents growing up. 😁

You just... had to start doing something that wasn't particularly enjoyable in order for it to become automatic. And it would never have become a habit if there wasn't a foundation—and goodness knows, that foundation isn't motivation, it's self-discipline. 😁

But doesn't motivation drive every decision to practice self-discipline? Take getting out of bed in the morning to head into the office when you absolutely don't feel like it; you need discipline to move, but the motivation behind it is the paycheck that covers your bills. 😁

No, that was more of a commentary on how rare self-discipline actually is.
It's not that it's rare, it's just that sometimes we don't perceive it that way because we don't have any breathing room to hesitate—we simply do what has to be done.

I see your point. You also mentioned that you "would otherwise procrastinate..." But what if someone is just naturally the type of person who procrastinates...? 😁

no. 1

Quincy:
That’s why I asked how you actually discipline yourself to do things that weren't part of your upbringing or just forced on you growing up. 😁
Well, maybe through rationalization. Like, what happens if I don't do this or that? Which is worse—forcing myself to do it, or just dealing with the fallout later?
Quincy:
Doesn't motivation drive every decision for self-discipline? To get out of bed and head to work when you really don't want to requires discipline. But behind that is motivation—the money that pays your bills. 😁
Motivation is basically just consequences (which is clearly a pretty terrible way to live). It's more like rationalization -> forcing yourself -> results.
Money, dammit, only becomes important once it's already gone.

I get it. You also mentioned that "otherwise you would procrastinate..." What if you're someone who always procrastinates....? 😁

That's me.
I basically ignore a fire until my shoe is literally on fire—hoping maybe it'll just go out on its own—and only then do I actually move.
My way isn't great; honestly, it's just enough to keep my head above water, and frankly, screw that.
How do you actually manage to swim toward the shore? I have no clue.
Is that even possible?
Man, now it feels like I was having this exact same internal debate ages ago.

neonmarlin56 said:Man, if you’ve got the specific Mihanovic I’m thinking of—and some oil too—then honestly, you hit the jackpot! 😉

😁
As far as I can tell, frozenfox842 is really the only one who actually has any reputation around here and actually gets respected.
Yeah, I guess I've got his oil too.

I can't find any solid info online. On one hand, you hear stories about him selling paintings in the States for hundreds of thousands of dollars, but then you look at eBay or some local American auction sites and see his work listed for next to nothing—maybe just a few hundred bucks. It’s all over the place, I guess.
Honestly, that’s just basic, isn't it? It’s not even clear to me why they're doing this. I mean, where on earth are those price gaps even coming from? I guess there might be some logic behind it, but honestly, it feels totally nonsensical. Maybe it's overhead or something, but I don't know... it just doesn't add up.
Look, I’ll be the first to admit it—I’m a total amateur when it comes to this stuff. But honestly, looking at his work, everything just kind of blends together for me. I can't really see the nuance, so I guess I'm just sitting here scratching my head wondering why there's such a massive gap in the pricing. It feels pretty wild to me, I guess.

If you happen to know anything more about this, I’d definitely appreciate the intel. Also, if anyone knows a solid place to offload some gear, let me know—I’m more than happy to work out a commission for the lead.😉

Regarding Mihanovic... does it actually matter if I take this stuff down to the appraisal office in San Diego, or is it just a waste of gas?

I honestly don't even get why you're being so aggressive right now, so I'm just gonna bail on this argument, sorry.

Anyway, look, I don't know what your deal is with Nexa, and there’s really no reason for me to be anything but cool with her—especially since you're acting so incredibly simp-ish about it.
Drug promotion on the "Alternative" subforum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, Kate Fisher73, you're smart and you've got a great sense of humor, but if we’re strictly talking about legal boundaries here, then my argument regarding books, movies, music, and all that stuff is more than enough—unless for some reason I don't quite grasp, you think this place needs to be under strict censorship.

I also honestly feel like any average lawyer smarter or even dumber statement could be treated as being exactly the same; it's just two different ways of saying the same thing, or just freer, different ways of expressing oneself. And God forbid they try to accuse you of taking things out of context, because it's pretty obvious the guy is just talking about his own experience, not implying that everyone else is going to have the exact same thing happen to them, which he already made clear.

Honestly, it’s just the same thing over and over again. They keep repeating themselves without even a tiny hint of sarcasm or a bit of actual humor to break it up. It gets old fast.
Laura Bishop said:Honestly, I feel like you have to treat every single post on Reddit as one big joke until someone actually proves otherwise. It’s just safer that way, I guess.

I'm just... I don't even know. Honestly, I'm pretty confused right now. 🙄
Delete this. I guess I finally stumbled upon it. Found it. From my location.

Look, I don't even know where to start with this one. Just... wow. Total nonsense.😍

Honestly, you should probably be locked up for being so incredibly reckless with how you invite people to things and make public promises like that. It’s just irresponsible. I mean, if we follow your logic, what's next? Some Congressman stands up on the House floor and claims women are only good for one thing, or some judge decides that a handshake is basically the same thing as sexual assault? Because if people start having involuntary spasms from all that physical trauma, they aren't going to be able to get any actual work done. People have jobs to do, you know—they can't just spend their whole day twitching and convulsing because of the nonsense being thrown around.😁

steelskipper5 said:Based on what, exactly?

What's even the big deal? I mean, seriously, what's the actual issue here?
I mean, if you ask me—and I’m definitely no legal expert here—that thread is actually breaking the law. It feels like they're basically handing out tutorials on how to use drugs, which I'm pretty sure isn't exactly legal under federal law.

Look, I’m just saying this, but there’s a fine line between being a nuisance and actually messing with the cops, and lately, people seem to be crossing it way too often. It’s getting ridiculous. You see these videos popping up online all the time where people think they’re being some kind of hero by standing right in a cop's face during an arrest or trying to block their path, and honestly? It’s just asking for trouble. I mean, I get it—people have opinions on policing, and rightfully so. We live in a country where accountability matters. But there’s a massive difference between filming an interaction from a safe distance—which is totally legal, by the way—and physically interfering with an officer who is clearly trying to do their job. If you start obstructing a scene, you aren't "protecting rights," you're just creating a safety hazard for everyone involved, including yourself. Maybe I'm being too cynical, or maybe I've just seen too many people catch a charge because they thought they were invincible. But at the end of the day, if you interfere with a lawful investigation or prevent an officer from performing their duties, you're going to end up in handcuffs. It's basic stuff. I guess it's just frustrating to watch people throw their lives away over a moment of misplaced bravado. Just stay back, keep your distance, and let things play out. It's not that complicated.
I mean, that’s not really how I saw it. The guy was just sharing his own subjective take while trying to flag a few different risks, but honestly, that's not even the main point here.

steelskipper5 said:I mean, I think you're actually looking at this all wrong.
I’m honestly getting pretty fed up with all the rule-breaking that just gets swept under the rug on this subreddit. It’s frustrating, really. Like, they let hate speech slide right past them, and I kept putting off reporting it because an admin promised me they’d look into it—and then, of course, nothing ever happened. So, I guess I've decided I'm done waiting around. From now on, if I run into anyone breaking the rules, I'm hitting that report button immediately.

I’ve been hanging around Reddit for almost ten years now. I guess I’ve just gotten used to the vibe here, and honestly, I don't really have the energy to go hunting for some other online community to call home. But man, some things are seriously starting to cross the line. It’s getting hard to stomach. When the higher-ups refuse to actually listen to the users, they shouldn't be acting like we don't matter—they need to step up and explain why they're choosing to tolerate this kind of nonsense.

Regarding this whole mess—specifically regarding Reddit—I could probably go on forever about why I feel this way. Look, I totally get why you're frustrated, but I don't think that's really hitting the nail on the head here.

The real point is what I’ve always said about books, movies, or music that hit the mainstream. Even if they weren't being mass-marketed, my stance wouldn't change much. I mean, I am more than willing to defend the right to access information, have debates, and share experiences about pretty much anything... as long as things don't spiral completely out of control.

I think we can both agree that drawing a hard line in the sand is tough, which is probably why you and I see the limit differently. For instance, I was honestly pretty disturbed recently when someone on a different sub posted asking for the specific names of date-rape drugs and how to actually use them. Nobody even touched that topic, even though I know some users were complaining behind the scenes.

But anyway, back to the main reason I even bothered to reply to you: it actually surprised me that you think filing a report is going to achieve anything when the exact same stuff—or even worse—is allowed everywhere in the media, from the books I mentioned earlier to basically everything else.

And just to be clear, even though I used to be pretty interested in LSD, I have never once tried it myself, nor have I ever encouraged anyone else to use it.

steelskipper5 said:While you guys are all busy arguing here, I went ahead and reported this thread to the cops for promoting drug use.
The person who wrote the guide—and hopefully the guy who started this whole mess—should probably expect a phone call from the authorities. At least. ☕

Honestly, if I were the cop assigned to cases like this, I think you’re the only one I’d actually bother calling in for questioning.

I’ve spent most of my time reading your posts with a heavy dose of skepticism, but now I’m just genuinely baffled.😕

I mean, maybe the next logical step in this madness would be to hold public book burnings for Huxley, Castaneda, and a whole bunch of other authors since they aren't around anymore to be thrown in a cell. And what about the directors, actors, writers, producers, singers, scientists...?

Dammit, he doesn't even have a clue what he's talking about here.
I was honestly just feeling so frustrated that I clicked on this thread and then completely blanked on it.

Now I'm stuck because I can't even figure out what actually went down—Aaron Harris2, did you seriously screw things up again?

I mean, I don't really have any major beef with the MK moderators, but it’s been forever since I hung out over there, so I guess I don't really know what the vibe is lately.
I honestly doubt that material status even carries the same weight here; I mean, you could probably spend forever just guessing at what the real reasons actually are

Amanda Gonzalez4 said:Greetings to everyone, I am also in the process of launching a seasonal small business similar to yours, and my primary concern at this stage is whether I am legally required to hire any employees; since I already hold another full-time position, I intend to manage this venture in parallel entirely on my own without hiring a single staff member

From what I gather, you basically have to employ yourself or someone else and pay into the system, though you do get a chunk of those contributions back eventually.

mistylynx5 said:As far as I can tell, nothing has actually been lowered. Starting next year, rates are going up to $574 across the board—pension, health, workers' comp, you name it. Then there’s the Chamber of Commerce fee, which sits at $88 every quarter plus an extra 0.40% of your income. And don't even get me started on the annual overhead: corporate taxes, local tourism levies, historical preservation fees, tax prep advances...

Yeah, that's what I heard too.
Once you tally it all up, it ends up being about $833 my monthly rent.

Even my tourism classification is a bit of a joke—they actually listed me down as a service provider under water transportation

I’ve been doing a little digging online, and I’m guessing my overhead will land somewhere around $833/month, which is great because I'll be able to write off every single cent of my income against

So, I was just at the Chamber of Commerce meeting earlier.
I guess I should probably mention that whole headache involving the administrative fees. Honestly, it’s just one more thing they tack on to make life difficult, right? It feels like every time you turn around, there's some new little surcharge designed to bleed you dry. It’s pretty much ridiculous if you ask me.$83
I mean, I guess I should probably just vent about this for a second. It’s one of those things that keeps bugging me, you know? I don't know if it's just me being a bit extra, but it feels like everything is getting more complicated for no reason. Maybe I'm just overthinking it, but honestly, sometimes you just have to lay it all out there. Just my two cents, I suppose.$67
Medical stuff... I mean, that’s really just for certain types of small businesses, anyway. I haven't quite figured out what the total damage is going to be yet—probably around a certain amount, I guess.$133)
-$6.75 I mean, I don’t even know where to start with this one. It’s just... it's a lot. I guess I’m just sitting here thinking about how everything seems to be heading in such a weird direction lately. Maybe I'm just being cynical, or maybe I'm the only one actually paying attention, but it feels like we're constantly hitting these walls that shouldn't even be there in the first place. It’s frustrating, honestly. I was trying to make sense of it all earlier, but the more you dig, the messier it gets. Just my two cents, I suppose.
I guess I’ll probably find out the rest of the details pretty soon. I'm still waiting on a few things to clear up, but hopefully, I'll have some actual answers shortly.

Telepathy or just pure misery with AT&T and Nokia? in Miscellaneous ·
hmm, a few of my buddies also made the jump over to AT&T recently, and since they’re constantly on the move, they end up stuck with zero signal all the time. I guess because AT&T relies on roaming through other networks, it takes forever for the phone to actually hand off from one tower to the next.
it's honestly such a joke.

anyway, I'm actually pretty curious about this whole thing with Nokia, because mine is currently in the shop right now (been broken for a couple of months), and I'm low-key terrified they're just going to ghost me.

Loving someone... man, that’s just this unconditional, unprompted, totally pathological state of being🤷

But falling in love? That’s different. That’s self-induced, conditional, and basically begging for permission🤷
