Why is everyone so pissed off? in Psychology ·
Morgan Bishop4 said:I started noticing it back when spring kicked in, you know...
everyone is just picking fights, everyone is totally on edge,
people who have been in super long-term relationships are breaking up—like, three-year stints and stuff, okay, maybe not everyone,
then obviously you’ve got those people who are actually hitting it off in amazing new relationships lately...
but man...
I don't even know
friends are snapping at each other left and right, it’s a total disaster.
And I heard all this within a single week—this guy fought with that guy, that person isn't talking to them anymore, now everyone hates this girl because she did this and that, and these two broke up... I mean... I was thinking, honestly, thank god I'm staying out of it...
But then, damn it, yesterday my sister starts losing her mind and getting pissed at me over nothing, just some stupid computer thing...
and then my best friend gets mad at me too, because apparently I've been getting on her nerves lately, or she's just stressed and everything I say or do is annoying her. Okay, there are other reasons, blah blah blah... but still.

I just don't know anymore, I have no clue how to act. What am I supposed to do?! (I mean, my sister isn't really an issue, we bicker all the time anyway... but still)
I seriously don't know what people expect from me, man, I really don't,
and because of all this chaos, I end up getting pissed and worked up myself and I just lose it...
I don't even know why I'm writing this, it's just... I needed to vent somewhere,
and I don't even know what I want people to tell me... it's just a total mess, a complete nightmare.

And the thing is, yesterday I was being so chill about it, I wasn't taking any of it seriously. I was thinking—whatever, they'll cool off, it's fine, she's just a little cranky.
But then today it hits us too, and I don't know, I just don't know what else to say.
Oh, wait, I just remembered—

I don't know if people are just feeling the spring fever, or if it's the month plus the sunshine plus something else...
or if it's my fault,
or if it's just the air here in Chicago,
or I don't know, I just don't knooooow...

Isn't this just how life in America works by default?
☕

It drives me absolutely insane when our local news outlets run these stories about foreigners saying, "Oh, everyone here is so polite and kind..."
🙄 🙄 🙄
Where on earth are these people finding them?
Every single person here is on edge... the cashier, the guy at the newsstand, there's always some drama. People swearing on the radio, politicians on TV acting like fools, the tension at work, on the bus, in traffic, at the grocery store... everywhere.

I mean, is anyone actually going to die from a bout of Narcissus?

Maybe it’s because it's a total paradox—an oxymoron, really.
Someone who acts like they own the damn world and couldn't care less about anyone else is usually just a fragile little thing hiding underneath it all.

I actually liked it quite a bit.

Yeah, sure. But I guess for some people, boring classics like The Godfather are "masterpieces" while unwatchable, soul-crushing slogs are considered top-tier cinema.

Jose Miller3 said:Personally, I think everyone nominated gets a vote for themselves every single year—they just don't admit it... 😉And honestly, that says something about Helen, plus the fact that she almost certainly knew she was getting the Oscar even without her own vote.

Anyway, I finally watched the movie yesterday. Even though I'm totally fascinated by the British Royal Family and have followed everything happening with them religiously, I found the movie BORING! It's such a shame, because you guys caught the most media-intense week in UK history ever (not even gonna mention those terrorist attacks) and turned it into an unwatchable hour and 45 minutes... 👎
If it wasn't for Helen Mirren's perfect—absolutely perfect—acting, I would've shut it off halfway through. And mind you, I'm the kind of person who WATCHED the funeral and bought all those books about Princess Diana that came out after...

Helen is truly an acting goddess. Just the other night I was saying she probably portrayed Elizabethan emotions way better than the actual Elizabeth did, but everything else... 👎

3/10 + deserved Oscar! (Glad I didn't buy a movie theater ticket...)

matter of taste

I actually enjoyed it. It was interesting seeing how the Queen lives—like, she drives her own car, follows those specific protocols, and even does picnics out in nature. Reminded me of lunches at my grandparents' cabin.
Plus, the whole sequence of events involving Princess Diana was gripping.
It isn't an action flick, it's a drama.
It was great seeing recent history played out on screen.
And learning some facts the media didn't emphasize much back then—like how the flag wasn't flown at half-mast when Royal Family members passed away.

It’s been nearly two years, but here’s the link.

Sorry for the wait.

First, here's the text from the forum where I found this:
The family of cannibal cavedwellers was The Sawney Beane family of Scotland. The folklore has them living anywhere from 13th century to 17th century. Sawney Beane and his wife lived in a cave. They fed on human flesh. They had 14 children who themselves had 22 children. The inbred clan survived for 25 years by ambushing travelers, stealing from them, then killing them and dragging their bodies back to the cave for food. They went undetected because their cave was seaside and at high tide the cave opening was covered by the water. 25 years into the clan's existence they ambushed a husband and wife. They killed and disemboweled the wife while struggling to knock the man off his horse. A group of other people on horseback happened onto the attack and the clan fled. The surviving husband and the witnesses reported back to the authorities and the King himself took 400 soldiers to search for The clan. They knew they had to be local because of the locations of the missing person disappearances and where salted and pickled rotten body parts used to wash up on shore (when the "meat" got too old they threw it out). Anyway, the king and his men found The Cavo with All 48 Sawney Beanes in IT. Story has it that the walls of the huge cave were lined with the carcasses of male and female body parts hanging to dry like in a meat packing plant. All 48 Sawney Beanes were executed. The men were disemboweled and had their legs and arms cut off and were left to bleed to death while the women watched. The women were burned to death. And so the story goes.

Hey Lojeda, I'm Scottish and you're pretty much All correct about The Sawney beane Story, but unfortunately, it ain't true. It 's an urban legend (for instance, there's no official record of either the crimes, or the fact that the King himself led the search party - whihc would definitely have been documented). It's a shame because it's a damn good story and would make the basis for a good historical horror movie.

Great movie, highly recommend it.
👍

Helen Mirren stars in it,
and she’s actually up for a few Oscars for this one.
👍
It covers the events back in 1997 after Princess Diana died in that accident—specifically how the Queen handled the whole thing and just how bafflingly poorly they reacted. They had no clue how to act.

One thing though: I noticed at the AMC theater that some of the scenes between characters seem to get a bit blurry for a second.
😕
Is that on them? A bad edit?

strasnomlat said:Yeah, why would you even bother focusing on the box office when there are so many terrible movies out there? This one is actually one of the better ones, and those are hard to find.

No,
Spook is the one twisting this into a debate about box office numbers,

I was simply pointing out how much this movie reminded me of the California coast when discussing that film earlierin general—not just about its box office performance...

Exactly.
Whenever an American blockbuster hits the screens, there are massive crowds lined up outside theaters just waiting to get in.

Susan Mendoza71 said:If you actually have a way to pull together $250 million for a movie, I guarantee there’s some director here in America who would jump at the chance to film exactly what you want.

Look, regarding the money,
take a top-tier American film like "Rondo" for example,
you don't need $250 million to make something like that happen.

Cash isn't everything when it comes to making a decent movie.

It's a fact.

Maybe you should ask yourself why.

I actually started this thread because I had an idea...

I honestly think we need an American version of the Razzies—you know, an award specifically for the absolute worst movies out there.

We should pick a few winners every single year.
The worst American film, the most cringeworthy sex scenes, all that garbage.

There’s plenty of candidates to choose from.
🙂

Maybe if they were actually mocked for it, American filmmakers would finally put some effort into their work instead of pumping out this trash.
😕 😉
