rustyfalcon52 said:regarding the idea... that they're smarter and less social because they can't find anyone worth talking to, have a wider range of emotions, blah blah... to me, all of that sounds like a potential personality disorder, maybe borderline? narcissism? I don't even remember the specific psychopathology terms or what criteria actually need to be met anymore.
intelligence is such a hard concept to define, so I guess that’s why linking it to anything else is so difficult. plus, we all know there are tons of different IQ tests out there... anyway, not to ramble, but back when I was in college, there were even theories that psychologists basically invented the whole concept of intelligence just so they’d have something to do with their lives.🙂 sometimes I really think that's exactly what happened, xexexexex 😁

How "hard" is it to define?
Look, you don't even need some formal testing to see it. It's obvious when one person can breeze through a mess of problems while the rest of the group is still struggling to grasp the very first step..

It doesn't matter if the person is 'gifted' in spatial reasoning, social dynamics, or art—it's very
easy to spot that massive gap between them and everyone else..

Basically, these people are more invested in a specific subject or area of life than most, giving them the capacity to dive way deeper into their interests than the average person could ever manage..

People like that don't fit into society's little boxes because their internal logic is constantly shifting. They follow their own rules, so the world around them often fails to understand or accept them simply because they aren't like the masses we run into every day.

So, we label them as weirdos, loners, geniuses, or just boring bores... whatever. In the end, they only ever find a tiny handful of people who actually get them. Society doesn't validate them, and that lack of validation breeds anxiety and isolation, which eventually opens the door to mental health issues..
Humans are social animals; we aren't meant to be solo acts. We need to be part of a community and respect social norms..
But most of the "types" described above just can't stomach those norms. They don't care about other people's rules, or they don't see any reason to follow them. And that's where the conflict we're discussing actually starts..
Kyle Nelson2 said:So, from what I can recall, I read somewhere that highly intelligent people are about 30% smarter than the average person (there’s usually a gap there compared to the idiots)....
It’s an old theory—that being smarter generally means you're more miserable because you're stuck surrounded by people who just don't get it. It makes finding someone actually worth talking to a nightmare, plus you notice way more subtle flaws in people that everyone else just ignores...

Which basically leads to the question: are smart people more prone to depression?

Then again, we have this whole category of psychological issues that I’d personally just call "immaturity"... things like kleptomania, sexual dysfunctions, stuff like that...
If I had to guess—and I know I'm no expert here—I'd say smarter people probably deal with fewer of those specific issues, not more...

So, if that's the case, what kind of illnesses should we actually be looking for in high-IQ individuals?

That’s a really sharp observation, Kyle Nelson2 👍
The way I see it, these people act like kids who pick up on tiny details and resonate on a much higher frequency than your average brat. They’re usually obsessed with one specific thing—totally fixated—while everything else just becomes background noise. Because of that, they're pretty useless at navigating "normal" daily life... they end up being a total burden on everyone around them
with their extreme knowledge and weirdly intense interests. That's why they struggle to fit in socially. They're almost always loners.
I’ve got someone in my family who is, frankly, terrifyingly brilliant..
Back when they were just a kid, some psychologist told my mother she had to walk on eggshells, basically, because kids with that kind of intellect are supposedly prone to mental health issues. From what I gather, there's this supposed link between childhood geniuses and later psychological struggles..
But look, if you look at the stats, about 60% of the population could potentially develop Schizophrenia.. it really just comes down to whether some life-altering event hits them hard enough to trigger it 😢

Oh, thanks a lot, but I'm doing just fine. I am not going under the knife for anyone.😉
Breast reduction surgery: experiences and advice? in Women's Health ·
I was asking about getting them reduced because my back is absolutely killing me, and honestly, the whole idea just creeps me out... like, what if things go wrong and there are complications?

As for the side effects, yeah, they're real.

The only thing worth mentioning is that breastfeeding might be an issue. But still,

all those potential long-term health problems and mental health struggles mentioned are way worse

than just not being able to breastfeed.
What are the chances this is a tumor? in Health ·
Look, if it helps at all, I was just at the doctor today dealing with something pretty similar (except they already took my tonsils out)

For the last couple of days, the side of my neck has been feeling swollen—not right in the middle, but off to the side where the muscle and nerves are. I can actually feel this tiny little pea-sized lump right where it hurts like hell..

The doc told me it’s just a lymph node and that my body is basically fighting off some kind of infection. He did say that if you're losing weight, sweating through your sheets, or coughing up a bunch of junk, then you really need to dig deeper. Otherwise, it's nothing; nodes swell up for all sorts of reasons whenever your immune system feels threatened..

All the doctor gave me was some painkillers. He said if the pain and swelling don't clear up within two weeks, then we need to start running real tests..

Besides, if it were actually a tumor, it usually wouldn't hurt this much.

talia said:Look, you haven't lived it. I have buddies in tech who don't pull overtime, but here’s the REALITY: while it might not be technically illegal, it is absolutely common practice in IT to work unpaid overtime. It gives companies way too much wiggle room to exploit their people if they feel like being jerks.
Listen, I laid it out clearly—everyone's playing it safe, nobody wants to rock the boat, and what exactly are you going to build on your own anyway?
Are you really the only one refusing overtime? Especially when your company is busy handing out mass layoffs?
Find another job?
That's exactly what she tried to do.
What would you even do if you were stuck in a company like that?

I don't know about Canada... but in the European Union, there's the European Working Regulation that all employers have to follow or they're breaking the law. She also needs to check if she's the only one being forced into overtime while others aren't; she should look into whether there's a case for discrimination or some other kind of irregularity.

What we're really looking at is a clash between two different worlds: that aggressive, cutthroat Anglo-American style of capitalism versus the old-school European way of doing things...
Who's actually going to come out on top? Honestly, I have no clue. 😉

The church should just team up with them since they clearly have nothing better to do with their time...
Dealing with pollen and dust allergies... in Health ·
It’s been going on for about ten days now... and honestly, it’s exhausting. I’m sneezing, my nose is itching, it's running... and it isn't even constant. It hits me in waves, but once those sneezing fits start, they just won't quit.
I’ve never dealt with allergies in my life... this is just miserable... and it won't let up. Is there any chance this is just some random sneezing fit?

Listen up, you "experts." I picked up some ERNT stock $310 back at the end of 2004. Fast forward to now, it's sitting at $717... and honestly, look at you guys calling me naive. You're the ones who couldn't see straight.
Just to rub it in a little—the math is simple: 930 to 2150 is roughly a 130% jump. So, my 40,000 USD turned into an extra 52,000 USD. Why am I even typing this? To show you how much nonsense you were spewing when I first asked about this.

😎 😎 👍 I just couldn't stay quiet. Oh boy, here comes the ban hammer from the moderator... 🤣

Back in 2004, I put 37,500 USD into a property. Then I dumped another 10,000 USD into renovations. Today, that project is worth 205,000 USD, and it’s pulling in 15,000 USD in annual income on its own.

Steroid injections and injuries in Health ·
Thanks, Jamie Clark74!
I ended up getting an X-ray, but no ultrasound—so I'm definitely going to push for that ultrasound next.

And honestly, maybe those steroid shots are exactly what triggered your immune issues... I’ve always hated the idea of just pumping a body full of steroids, and now seeing how much they use them in sports medicine? It's just wrong.
Steroid injections and injuries in Health ·
I messed up my shoulder a few months back and the pain just won't quit.
It wasn't exactly broken or anything... they just had to pop it back into place at the ER, because before that, I couldn't even move my arm.
Fast forward a few months later and it still hurts like hell whenever I make a sudden movement. I still can't lift my arm high above my head, and don't even get me started on reaching out to the side.

My doctor sent me to see a Rheumatologist. She thinks my muscles might be permanently damaged and said she’ll probably give me a steroid injection in the shoulder to try and fix everything up inside.
All they gave me was some painkiller, which I really don't want to touch. I can't predict when my arm is going to suddenly jerk or when the actual stabbing pain is going to hit.

The whole Rheumatology thing feels super sketchy to me. It's not like I have rheumatoid arthritis; this was an injury. Plus, I keep hearing those steroid shots are terrible for your immune system and that they make you gain weight and all that junk.

Does anyone have any idea what I should actually be doing for this arm?
My doctor tells me to do exercises... but then the people at my gym tell me to be careful not to exercise it at all.
Should I just go through with the injection?
Sorry, Bill... I was just exhausted and feeling totally unmotivated... I really didn't mean to offend you.
First off, I’m not trying to start a panic here, and I’m definitely not citing some shady, unreliable source.
The way bird flu is spreading globally through migratory birds is honestly unprecedented in my lifetime, and frankly, it's something I find pretty fascinating to look into.
I'm just writing because I feel like it, and honestly, I just feel like it.
Besides, I'm not out here spamming millions of threads just to try and convince anyone—including myself—that some disease or outside factor is the reason for my own life's shortcomings.
If anything, I consider myself successful. I truly believe my environment and the world around me are handing me plenty of incredible opportunities to thrive.

And look, bird flu isn't some taboo subject, nor should it be. The more people actually understand what we're dealing with, the better our chances are as a species to protect ourselves and get it under control.
So, how's everything looking in your neck of the woods?
Are you guys actually eating chicken?

Man, I wish I could catch even just a tiny bit of that glitch... just for a couple of days 😢

I know I’m going to get roasted for this, but honestly? I think we're looking at a straight-up addiction.
I dealt with the exact same nightmare with my ex. Constant screaming, throwing stuff out of the house, just total chaos... everything. Honestly? Nothing I did actually worked.

We aren't even together anymore... and yet, just the other day, I ask him to stay with the little guy for a few hours while I run some errands. When I finally get home? What a sight. My kid is just chilling in his room playing PlayStation, and the gentleman himself has barricaded himself inside my home office... sitting right there on my computer.
It only takes a few hours before he’s back online, scrolling through porn... in someone else's house—well, my house now. Instead of actually playing with his kid, he's just sitting there, feeding those urges under my roof. Unbelievable. 😢 Honestly, it’s just pathetic.
I honestly couldn't believe it!
Look, if all else fails, common sense says you should probably act like you actually have some manners when you're stepping foot in someone else's house.
