Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Can anyone recommend a good pediatric endocrinologist in New York City?
I need someone who actually specializes in growth and development, not just a doctor who can read a thyroid report.
😉👍🙏
Tyler Ruiz502 said:Hey ladies, hope you're all doing well!

I’ve been lurking on this forum for a few days now... just hanging out in the shadows while I wait to either take a test (or just wait for my period to show up), so I figured I’d share what’s currently weighing on my mind:

My cycles are usually pretty consistent—mostly 27 or 28 days, though occasionally they'll drift to 26 or 29. We had sex on day 15 of my cycle, and today marks day 25. It feels a little early to be reaching for a test, so I'm curious—what do you all think the odds are here? 😛

I’ve been trying to run the math on this myself:

-If my cycle ends up being 26 days long, then ovulation would have happened around day 12, which means the egg wouldn't have stood a chance of surviving until day 15—plus, I'd be expecting my period by tomorrow.

-The more likely scenario is a 27-day cycle, putting ovulation at day 13. Again, the egg wouldn't survive two full days (that 24-hour window is the rule, right?)—in which case, I'll have my answer in about two days.

-Then there's the third equally plausible option: a 28-day cycle where ovulation happens on day 14, and since we had unprotected sex on day 15... well, I'll know the result in three days. ☕

Even though we weren't exactly planning for this, I find myself rooting for a positive result. 😍

Can you actually look at this through a strictly mathematical lens, or is life just too unpredictable for formulas to work? 🤷

Just head over to the "wannabe" thread and join the club.
You’ll get plenty of feedback there.😉
coppermoose30 said:Unfortunately, it doesn't have to be that way. I've had it happen twice now where I was looking at these faint lines on my Clearblue tests... just nothing but a tease. 😢

Honestly, you should just head in for a checkup and mention it to your doctor.
Especially if this keeps happening to you.
There are plenty of reasons why an HCG test might come back positive when there isn't actually a pregnancy involved.
coppermoose30 said:Yeah, I'm at 37.
We've been trying for a baby for about eight months now, so I'd definitely be celebrating if it happened... secretly, I was actually hoping it would "mess up" my work plans. 😁
But oh well, we keep moving forward!

Look, I truly hope you get everything you're wishing for... whatever those may be. 😉😁😍👍
coppermoose30 said:So, I just took a Clearblue test and it came back negative 😢

How many days late are you now?
Wait, did I read that right? 37 days? If your cycles are usually all over the place, there’s still a chance. And honestly, if you keep stressing yourself out over this, your period might decide to take an even longer vacation. 😉
Stress can seriously throw everything off.

I just can't tell—are you actually hoping for a baby, or would you rather skip this month? Or maybe both? 😁

I'm doing it again tomorrow morning! I checked my beta levels, but it was back on the 28th—the interval went up to 4, though maybe I was just too early. I read somewhere that it’s possible to test a bit ahead of schedule.
And just my luck, my boss told me a few days ago that a promotion is coming my way 😍

It’s totally possible. If you had sex last night, there’s no way a test will show anything positive by tomorrow morning. It just won't work that way. 😉
Beta doesn't just jump straight to 850. It starts at zero and builds up slowly.
It doubles every 48 hours. 0 to 1, 1 to 2, 2 to 4... That means we’re looking at maybe 5 to 10 days before things really start moving.

Say it again and you'll see just how big it really is.
😁

The reason we run the beta again after just two days? It’s simple: we need to see if there’s actually any measurable growth.
coppermoose30 said:Hey ladies!
I could use a little advice from you all. My last period started on January 1st, though my cycles are usually pretty irregular, ranging anywhere from 30 to 38 days.
For the past three days, I’ve been noticing some light brownish-red spotting along with a dull pressure in my abdomen, almost like my period is about to start.
I realize it’s probably too early for a pregnancy test, but I was wondering if there's any way to tell sooner. There is a major promotion up for grabs at work, and I really need to know as soon as possible!
Thanks so much

There is absolutely no way to know if you're pregnant 7 to 10 days before your period is due.
The only real way is to get a blood test—if the HCG levels are above 5, then you're pregnant.
Standard over-the-counter tests look for much higher levels, usually over 50, so if your levels are lower than that, you'll just get a negative result.
🙂

girls, I don't know if this has been asked yet—there are way too many posts to scroll through 🙂 so forgive me if I'm repeating myself!!
does anyone know how reliable the Clearblue tests actually are? has anyone here used them??
I'm already 7 days late, which is totally weird for me, so I decided to take one (Clearblue) and it said negative... but honestly, I still feel like I might be pregnant. Is there any reason to trust these tests, or is there a better brand out there??? 🙂
thanks in advance !!!! 😁

You'll know for 100% certain only if you head to a clinic, get some bloodwork done, and take a ß-hCG test.
Oh boy, kids, kids...

Hannah Sullivan46 said:I’m jumping back into this thread because I actually beat anorexia back in high school.
Even though my cycle has been totally regular for years and everything seems fine, that food anxiety never really leaves you—anorexia always leaves a mark, right? And honestly, the fear of gaining weight is still terrifying. (I'm about 5'6" and 110 lbs)
I really want to have kids, but the idea that I have to "eat for two" absolutely haunts me.
Do women even need to eat more during pregnancy?
I read somewhere that most of the weight gain comes from blood volume, the baby, the placenta, etc., and that anything else just depends on how much an individual woman eats.
Is that just some urban legend?

I can't remember the exact details off the top of my head, and I don't have the link handy...
Just Google it...
It basically breaks down like this:
- part of it goes toward increased blood volume and your whole circulatory system
- then there's the placenta
- then the baby itself (around 3.5 inches at first)
- then amniotic fluid
- plus water retention in your own body
That accounts for about 18 pounds right there.
You usually lose about that much during delivery, but it’s all so different for everyone.
Every person is unique—it's like they say, every body is different.

There's really no reason to freak out about it.
You’ll gain whatever you gain based on what you eat. 🤷
They throw a few hormones at you, but mostly it's a psychological game where one day you feel one way and the next day another.

I had a roommate back in college who only gained about 16 pounds.
She was super careful, barely eating anything besides yogurt and kiwi (and bits of other stuff).
She gave birth to a healthy 8.4 lb baby.

Then you have those people who put on 55 pounds...

Every case is its own thing...
ruggedhawk182 said:The odds are basically zero; you aren't pregnant.

We seriously need to rebrand this forum as a pregnancy test service.
Picture this: you just spit on the screen, we run a quick DNA and beta-hCG scan, and voila!
😁

We'll go all out. Ultrasound, swabs, full panel testing—we'll even tell you the gender!

...so you're feeling it under your left ribs and getting those sharp pains in your ovaries?☕Plus, the nausea hits me sometimes too.☕

Have you thought about seeing a doctor? Just a regular GP? 😁

redpilot37 said:No, honey... my last period was on December 27th. I’m not even at mid-cycle yet. Now I've got this pain on my left side... could it be my gallbladder?🤷

The gallbladder and the ovaries aren't exactly neighbors.
🤷
I don’t know what you’re going through, or how much it hurts...
All I know is that ovulation pain tends to linger for a couple of days.
If you were at 27.12 on the 27th and now you're hitting 8dc... did you catch a cold or something?
Does it hurt more on the side, or right in the mid-cycle?
How much does it actually hurt?

redpilot37 said:I’m getting these little twinges in my ovaries... just this occasional tightening. It's especially bad on the left side. I keep getting these cramps that feel exactly like period pains, except I'm not even on my cycle. Anyone else dealt with this?😕
☕

Mid-cycle? That’s just ovulation. 😁

redpilot37 said:My OB-GYN never even ordered hormone tests for me. She’d just run an ultrasound during my checkups, tell me everything looked fine, and call it a day. I never once got a blood panel to check my levels. But honestly, what have my hormones actually been doing these last few months?
So, it starts out pretty standard on day one... then things take a bit of a dip on day two, and by early evening, everything just completely vanishes. By the third day, I’m left with nothing but a tiny brownish spot on my underwear and that's it. I don't even count that third day—it’s basically non-existent.🤣
So, is this okay? If it isn't, then why didn't she say anything to me?🤷
I've actually had this thing for about a year and a half now...☕

That’s all easy to say until you actually start raising kids. Then suddenly, everything becomes a problem—you’ll even find a reason to complain just because the sun is out.
If you’re feeling good, you’ve got nothing to worry about. Simple as that.
If you ever find yourself needing to justify that kind of volume, I'm sure you'll dig something up.
In the meantime... 🙂Go ahead, enjoy yourself...

Alex Patel96 said:I've had this kind of cycle for ages—like 12 years now—and I haven't had any other issues...🤷

🤷 Well, then you're just the exception that proves the rule. 😁

Look, I'm no doctor; they’re the experts. But from talking to other girls, I've realized that it really is just short. Generally speaking.
If it works for you, then hey, good for you 😁.

Ashley Rodriguez92 said:My last period back in November was totally normal.
I slept with my boyfriend right before it started, and we didn't use protection, but I didn't get pregnant because my period came!
Since then, up until about a week ago, I had some brown discharge, which might have been ovulation.
I was supposed to start my next period three days ago, but instead of my usual cycle, I just got this tiny bit of reddish-brown spotting that lasted about three days.
The weird part is, I didn't have any PMS—no breast tenderness or the usual symptoms I always get before my period starts.

Is there any chance I'm pregnant?!

I slept with my boyfriend exactly a week ago, and again, we didn't use protection.

Thanks so much to anyone who can share their experience or knowledge before I head to the doctor!!!!🙂

It's possible. Why don't you just take a test? 😁

Alex Patel96 said:My suit lasts about three years—though, to be honest, it’s usually more like two or maybe two and a half.🤣She never actually said anything to me about that...🤷

Sure, you can technically do it, but is it actually okay? People are saying three days is way too short, and two days isn't even worth mentioning. Is anyone actually satisfied with that?
It’s usually just a minor hormonal imbalance, triggered by stress or life throwing you a curveball.
It was okay... It eventually got better after a little while.
Either you fix things with hormone therapy, or you just end up dealing with a total mess. It’s a lose-lose situation, really.
Don't go trying to play this game all on your own.
I’d honestly rather go have a heart-to-heart with a gin and tonic.

Honestly, it sometimes helps me get things moving about a week beforehand, but let's be real—it’s not exactly reliable when you actually need it to work, right?

It’s funny how people on this forum seem to think "LOL" is a valid response to every single open discussion. 🤣🤣

Rachel Brooks63 said:you could say 🤷

drinking wine, whether it's heated up or not, has absolutely zero impact on your cycle.

I mean, who wouldn't laugh at stuff like that? 🤣
When I was pregnant, I actually told myself, "I'm switching to decaf."
🤮🤮🤮
It tasted absolutely revolting, so I gave up on the idea immediately.
There was just no point.

I’ve been back to having three or four cups a day for ages now. Honestly, I just love the taste too much.
I've ended up in a total fog more than once because I overdid it, but let's be real—you can't just kick an addiction overnight... ☕🤣
