School closures/delays? in Students & Teens ·
Tyler Ruiz502 said:If I’m reading this right—and I might be overthinking things here—this full-day program is actually intended for kids whose parents aren't home, you know, because they aren't quite old enough to be left unsupervised... which leads to the inevitable question of how they'll even get home safely, right?
So, is it basically a "necessary evil" for working families?

It isn't just some optional little extra that people pick just for the sake of it, is it? 🤷

Now, Kate Allen, I’m not pointing fingers at you specifically to answer—I mean, I noticed in your previous comment that you used to go but don't anymore... and honestly, I have no idea what changed or why, but it got my gears turning.

Is this whole thing really meant for those kids who simply have nobody to pick them up, provide a lunch, or hang out with them for hours until their parents finally roll in from work? Because if that's the case, those kids are essentially living the "childhood" experience while both parents are stuck at the office. Or is there actually no massive rush for enrollment, meaning anyone can just sign up whenever they feel like it?

I mean, I haven't quite wrapped my head around the logistics yet... by the way, does pretty much every single elementary school in a major city like Chicago have this kind of full-day setup?

I'll weigh in once the moderators move this along:

By the time she started school, my youngest was born, my middle child was still in preschool, and my husband was working on a cargo ship out in the Pacific 😬
So yeah, I was flying solo with a newborn, a preschooler, and a first grader. That was exactly the year they rolled out the after-school program at our local school.
After first grade, we moved, and the new school didn't offer any kind of after-school care, so she stopped going.

The program costs about $300 (at least back then) and it's really intended for working parents. Don't quote me on the exact amount, though—my daughter is finishing fourth grade now, so that's ancient history to me 🤣

My kid was in a full-day program, and honestly, I just have to give a massive shout-out to the teachers and how everything was run. It was top-tier.
We actually had to move away after first grade, so she stopped going—which is when it finally hit me just how much of a lifesaver those full-day setups really are.

Sorry for the off-topic post.

Don't mention it 😉

So, look, I’m still pretty new to all this, so I jumped the gun a bit and quickly deleted that part of my post where Cats actually broke one of the WNBA rules.
That’s really the heart of it—she knows what happened, she got a DM explaining everything, and she's fully up to speed now. It wasn't some intentional attempt at trolling or anything like that.
My bad for causing a bit of a panic; everything is still running exactly how we planned, and I honestly just want everyone to keep things chill here at ZK.
Look, I’ve got numbers dating back to 2003 and everything since then... if you're actually interested, just make me an offer. We're moving into a new place and I'm finally clearing out some old junk. 😉
I'll swing by the local tavern to see how many I actually have left and then I'll hit you up via DM!

It might happen in like five minutes after you hit send, or it could end up taking two or three days, a whole week, maybe even two or three weeks if things get backed up... 🙂

Thanks!

Hey there! 😁

Sent a DM to rustydrifter10 this morning, but haven't heard a peep yet.
I'm guessing they're just tied up—I really just wanted to say thanks for the reply 😍

Thanks in advance!

Oh, wonderful. So that explains why my buddy was acting like such a jerk...
Honestly, that’s just awful...
What can I even say... it’s all about how you were raised, right? Just lovely...

But hey, that photo of you with the cake turned out great...🤣
Though, I have heard there are those weird iPhone knockoffs floating around—you know, some cheap Chinese 😂

Forgive me for laughing at this, but I can totally imagine how much this sucks for you.

Well, what can you say...
Honestly? I'd feel pretty crappy about it all...
If we could just pull up the footage right now—I mean, Jesus God, there's a recording for everything these days, isn't there?
It's basically living proof that everything you said in that last post, River, was spot on...

I bet even that kid would have acted the same way if you'd gone out and bought him an iPhone4...

Look, stop guessing whether you’ll actually land the child support or not. Honestly, just go talk to a social worker—there's always someone out there who can give you some actual guidance. At the end of the day, he’s the father, and he needs to make sure there's money set aside for his kids. It’s his responsibility to pay up, period. I'm not entirely sure how things play out in your specific neck of the woods, which is why I'm telling you to reach out to a professional and get some clarity.
I know this is heavy stuff, but you've gotta step up and take action.
My heart is hurting in Psychology & Therapy ·
Where do I even start?
So, you aren't actually living with your husband right now, correct?
You're footing the entire bill and handling all the parenting duties solo?
Then why on earth are you still there?
If you want my two cents—and I’m telling you this straight—file for divorce, get those child support payments sorted out, and move into a place of your own. It sounds to me like you're basically living under your mother-in-law's thumb.
Do you have parents nearby who could take you in for a bit while you get your feet under you?
Are you working? If you're currently out on maternity leave, do you have a job to go back to once that's up?
The mess you're in right now isn't healthy for your kids. You're their mother, and you have to protect them—you'll ultimately be responsible for the people they grow up to be because they're watching you.
The fact that your husband just drags the kids to a coffee shop isn't cutting it; he's basically just looking for a way to kill time rather than actually being a parent. You're spot on there. A father should spend time with his kids outside, at home, or yeah, sure, at a cafe—but not *only* at the cafe.
Your child is acting out aggressively because they've seen that behavior from their dad, and now they're passing it down to their siblings. They're trying to act dominant over them, just like your husband tries to dominate you. Let's face it: he knows he's more financially stable than you are, and he's using that to keep you under his thumb.
I don't quite get it—you're living under the same roof but separated, yet he isn't contributing financially to his own children? How does that work? Why? You're still legally married.
You really ought to reach out to a social worker and get some professional advice on what your next moves should be.
That's just my advice, coming from one mother to another—I've got three kids of my own.
Edward Murphy4 said:Seriously?😲 Mine is always opaque during ovulation. Like, super thick—I can't call it "clear" at all. It's usually just white.🤷

I found this link about managing your cycle through nutrition—it’s basically a deep dive into how what you eat can actually influence those hormonal shifts we all deal with. It’s pretty interesting stuff if you're looking for ways to feel a little less like a walking thunderstorm once a month. Basically, it breaks down which nutrients help stabilize things and which ones might be making the whole process more chaotic than it needs to be. Definitely worth a read if you want to get ahead of the curve.
So, the doctor finally weighed in on one of the questions and cleared things up a bit.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you're scouring the internet for "natural ways to trigger ovulation," please—take a breath. I spent way too much time falling down those rabbit holes myself, thinking some obscure herbal tea or a specific lifestyle tweak was going to be my magic ticket. It’s exhausting, really. The link you shared basically lays out the standard playbook: diet, stress management, and certain supplements. And look, there’s nothing wrong with eating more greens or trying to chill out—though "just relaxing" is probably the most useless advice ever given to someone actually struggling with fertility. It’s like telling someone in a thunderstorm to just stay dry. They mention things like checking your basal body temperature and keeping an eye on cervical mucus. That part is actually useful—it’s basic biology, not magic. If you aren't tracking those markers, you're basically flying blind. Then they get into the supplements—folic acid, maybe some vitamins to support hormone balance. Most of that is solid, standard stuff you'd find at any pharmacy or even just a high-end health food store like Whole Foods. But let's be real for a second—there is a massive difference between "supporting your body" and "fixing a hormonal imbalance." Supplements can help fill gaps, sure, but if there's an underlying issue, you're just throwing expensive vitamins at a problem that needs actual medical intervention. If you're serious about this, don't just rely on a blog post or some wellness guru's advice. Talk to a specialist. Get the bloodwork done. There’s no shame in needing a little more than just a change in diet to get things moving. Just my two cents.

Here, take a look at this—and hey, Karen Garcia32, if you're actually that freaked out, maybe just go see a gynecologist.

I honestly thought it was all just some brownish, yellowish, or greenish mess. I mean, white is usually fine, but if it starts looking like cottage cheese, then you're definitely dealing with some kind of fungus—and at that point, it isn’t just about the discharge anymore. You start getting the itching, the stinging, and all that other fun stuff too.

Sad, I also saw you mentioned you're in pain—and that your lips are swollen too—so seriously, just go see a gynecologist. Karen Garcia32, let us know what they say.
Karen Garcia32 said:So, I went to the bathroom earlier and was absolutely horrified to see this thick discharge literally hanging out of my vagina. It sounds disgusting, and honestly, it looks even worse. It hadn't even fully come out yet; it was just right there at the opening, so I had to wipe it away with some paper.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this??? It’s sticky, stretchy, and reminds me of that stuff you blow out of your nose when you have a bad cold—except this is clear and white.

If it's clear and stretchy like egg whites, then you're probably just ovulating.
But if there's any actual color to it, then you're looking at an infection.
At least you'll know when you're ovulating.😍
How old are you?
Elementary school teachers in Students & Teens ·
So, I honestly lucked out—I ended up with a teacher who was not only incredibly diligent and conscientious, but also older and just had the patience of a saint.
Everything was planned way ahead of time for us; field trips, parent meetings, you name it. Even back in preschool, we’d have these workshops and little shows that were scheduled out a month in advance. Maybe that’s just how things work at private academies, I don't know. They even organized these outings where we parents actually got involved—stuff like tug-of-war and sack races... basically a full-on field day.
Honestly, almost all the teachers there were fantastic, except for one young one who just didn't quite click with us...
And the director? A total legend. She was one of those people you could actually sit down and negotiate anything with. Because she was so flexible, my kids could stay in daycare for weeks at a time while I worked my shift schedule.
I really don't want to jinx myself by bragging too much, but my oldest daughter's current teacher is heading out on maternity leave soon. If this new person coming in after the holidays is even half as good as her, I'll be sitting pretty.

So, I’ve got one daughter starting first grade and the other in second. Her teacher is on the older side—probably somewhere in her 60s—but honestly? She is incredibly patient with the kids. Right from the jump, she’s kept three of us parents in the loop. Plus, she actually stays current; she brings in these printed handouts for us and talks about modern parenting techniques. It actually feels like she might even follow 🤣🤣🤣 because she’s totally living in the present rather than stuck in the Stone Age. I have nothing but praise for her.
The other daughter's teacher is young, and man, she is a total genius! I was actually pretty nervous about how things would go since we just moved to a new city and started at a new school, but it turned out way better than I expected. Knock on wood—because I definitely don't agree with the idea that all older teachers lack patience; this one has plenty. None of our meetings have lasted less than two full class periods, and the woman really knows her stuff. Seriously, major props to everyone working in education, because I know for a fact I could never do it!!!!

Picked up some Versace and honestly, I’m kind of obsessed with the scent. Total win—and yeah, it’s actually his first ever cologne, ha! Grabbed it for $63 at Disney. He ended up snagging another one too, but he's definitely going to douse himself in this one since he liked it better. He was like, "I'm wearing this tonight when we go out!"

So, I’m heading to this baptism today for a kid I barely even know, and—surprise, surprise—I haven't even picked out a gift yet. Honestly, I was pretty blindsided by the invite in the first place; I actually tried to back out, but then his mom started tearing up because I wanted to cancel. Now I'm stuck. Even though I'm not the godmother or anything, there's still that unspoken rule that you have to show up with something. ☕ My plan is to hit up Microsoft and grab some cologne and maybe a book if I can find one that doesn't suck. The perfume should cost me about $83. I’m just reaching my limit here—I’ve got six weddings lined up in June for people I actually care about, and I really can't afford to drop $250 on every single one of them. Not that I mind paying for those, since they're my maid of honor and my first cousin, but still. Does this sound okay for a baptism? Since I don't really know the kid, I'm banking on the fact that it'll be his first nice cologne and he'll actually like it.

So, I just got an invite to a Confirmation today. It’s for the son of this mom whose kid was in preschool with mine. Over the years, we’ve actually become pretty good friends—we grab coffee all the time, help each other out with stuff, you know how it is—so we're definitely solid. But honestly, I’ve only ever met her son once, and now I'm heading to his Confirmation. I'm thinking about just putting $50 in the card. Does that sound reasonable to you guys? If it were a girl, I’d definitely be picking up something from Swarovski. I always go that route for girls' baptisms because moms seem to love it, and I usually just stick to the classic pieces.
