What else am I going to miss on this forum? And here I was thinking the Politics subforum was just a breeding ground for self-righteous experts—the kind of basement-dwelling, antisocial pessimists who lack even a shred of basic human decency.
It’s wild how much people lack basic self-control and foresight when they drop these kinds of final, sweeping judgments. Though, knowing the author, this feels less like a genuine realization born from actual regret—which usually leaves you feeling sick to your stomach—and more like just a desperate attempt to make a scene.

Heh, northerncrane4 isn't just being fed dangerous ideas... he's being fed thoughts that the person planting them didn't even intend to plant. 😁😁God help whoever actually goes to the movies with him. 😁😁😁

Why be depressed? For me, a pack of Marlboro Reds works better than any antidepressant.😁😁

The thing is, Cameron hasn't actually released a BAD movie yet (unless you count that Piranha sequel as his one stumble)...

What do you mean he hasn't failed? Ever since Titanic came out, the guy's been stuck in a loop for eight years trying to catch his breath.😁😁 😁

I can't wait for redowl90 to give us a PowerPoint presentation on Cameron's big wins from the last decade...🙂 😁
northerncrane4 said:A movie screen isn't the director. Just like you aren't actually having a conversation with your monitor right now.

But somehow the result ends up being exactly the same 😁 😁 (get the metaphor I'm using with the screen? 😁 )....
besides that... why don't you finally tell us which "dangerous thoughts" Moore supposedly forced on you?

northerncrane4, I have to give you props for this one:

The viewer basically lost the right to choose whether she wants to be tossed into a dumpster based on whatever side she decides to take.

🤣 🙏 🙏

ruggedmarlin15, I honestly don't know how you find the energy to reply to such nonsense... I'm actually fascinated by your compulsive need to make sure everyone loves the festival... and clearly, northerncrane4 is providing plenty of inspiration. 😁😁
northerncrane4 said:Look, I'm not trying to force my views on anyone. Communication is a two-way street, which means you can actually call me out on my nonsense. Moore's isn't. He just pushes his own version of reality, conveniently leaving out any details that don't fit his narrative because he's using a medium that doesn't allow for much pushback. Clear enough? 😛

Heh, fair point... your take is definitely up for debate 😁😁...but so is Moore's. The difference is you're convinced everyone else is just a mindless sheep, so you think you're the only one seeing the flaws in how Moore operates. Like I mentioned back in the Fahrenheit 911 thread, his movies are full of holes. Moore is a populist, plain and simple—but that’s exactly why he’s successful. Besides, sure, the way he talks to us might be one-way, but that's hardly his fault if you'd rather have a chat with a movie screen than actually discuss what you saw with other people. 😛
northerncrane4 said:It’s pretty impressive how Moore managed to brainwash you without you even noticing he was doing it. 😎

Right, because Moore is such a master of subtlety...🙄
Just tell the rest of us which opinion he's supposedly forcing on us. Unless you think he's trying to convince us that we're being manipulated? If that's your logic, then you're doing the exact same thing... except for you, it's painfully obvious. 🤣
Jason Morgan2 said:Stop trying to force your opinion on us. 🙄

..haha "triumph of the will" is just some rom-com nonsense northerncrane4 uses to pretend we're being told what to think. 😁
newcomer said:Look, I know this whole thread is just one big joke, so here’s my quick breakdown of how much damage these movies actually do to kids:
-- A Hugh Grant movie where he hooks up with two girls (=) blood down to the knees from a nasty STI, hopefully caught before it spreads.
-- A romantic couple who finally get together five minutes before the credits roll (=) some girl ends up with an infection so bad even a toddler would recognize a brutal period.

Honestly, horror movies are the real threat. Why? Because they teach kids to be afraid of the wrong things. When you're a kid, you think your biggest life threats are guys with knives, Dracula, Freddy Krueger, or zombies... when the real danger is something else entirely.

I’m officially convinced that we don't just lack a common logical framework or speak different languages—we aren't even from the same planet.

Why gotta be like that? I was actually hoping we could inhabit the same planet so we could judge photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie using the same logic... and then maybe move on to watching Batman adult films with subtitles for the visually impaired.😢
slylynx16 said:It's a tie.
But if we’re being honest—and we should be—the real threat to society is the flood of XXX films. They feed teenagers a totally warped, unrealistic, and frankly deviant view of sex.

Coming from someone who thinks Batman is a loser just because he's celibate.🙂

...I honestly have no clue... I thought the nurse said it, but it looks like Jackie (Kiera) was actually the one speaking... You could interpret the ending however you want... especially when she gets in the car and her face just goes pale... Either she’s dying or she’s waking up, who knows.
But that’s not even the main point... Brody had a much better shot at fixing his life than the rest of us mere mortals did. That final line is basically the director talking directly to us... It’s a question aimed at the audience, not Brody... which is pretty much the whole point of the movie, isn't it? ..;-)

Damn this forum and the server 🙂...Alright, let's start over. The question is: can a director lose their touch? Obviously, yes. I’ve been watching certain directors—who, by the way, used to make absolute masterpieces—fall into these massive slumps. Some of them have been coasting in the gutter for years now. 😁😁...

1. Wim Wenders - Poor Wim is basically the internet's favorite punching bag these days. He went from being a cult icon to the guy you can mock without anyone bothering to defend him. And honestly, he kind of invited it. Back in the 80s, everyone was saying he'd already peaked by making everything worth seeing, including *Paris, Texas*. 😍...

Slump duration: roughly 15 years and counting.

2. Martin Scorsese - Say what you want, but his decline is a constant. Look, I know he’d sell his soul for an Oscar, but those last two shameless flops really make you want to just walk away from him. Go dig up some old VHS tapes from back when he was actually delivering.

Slump duration: about 10 years.

3. The Coen Brothers - Just pure tragedy. They’ve completely lost the plot. Maybe they're young enough to snap out of it, but judging by their announced projects, even they don't seem to know what they're doing anymore.

Slump duration: 4 years (maybe 5...).

4. Kevin Smith - The textbook definition of a total collapse. He went from a brilliant debut to someone I don't even know what he does anymore, nor do I care.

Slump duration: about 7 years, and looks like it'll stretch on forever.

5. Wes Craven - What is he even directing lately? 😕

Slump duration: roughly 15 years.

Those were the first ones that popped into my head. Your turn. Who else used to be a heavy hitter but has been struggling lately?

just a thought:

...I see people acting like he kicked the bucket back in Iraq, treating the whole movie like some fever dream happening inside his head right before the end... but honestly, I figured he was gone for good back in '93 when he hit his head on the floor. The real question is whether he actually made it to 2007—the end of the film—though I guess it doesn't really matter for the point being made...

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

So... did Brody make it out alive? Or when exactly did he kick the bucket?

northerncrane4 said:Really? And what were those movies that tried to frame Napa Valley within some high-society New York elegance? Those little indie shorts that thought they were being brilliantly subversive?

No clue... I wasn't there, which is why I'm asking 😕 ...clearly, I didn't miss anything life-changing 😁

Spice? Pavicic?

...Spice?...I’m not even sure how to label it...it changed every single year...one year it was all about the girls, the next it was some animated thing...that was always the best part...and now it's just gone?
Pavicic?...He was the one calling the shots this year, right?...Since everything felt so trashy lately, I figured cutting Spice was just part of his plan...:-)...

I honestly feel bad for you guys. One day, I’ll look back on this festival with nothing but great memories. You guys can just keep complaining.

Anyway, forget that... is it true there was no spice this year?? Like, how? Why? Did Pavicic cut that out too?😕
