A rather simple tale of romance. A fleeting moment, nothing more. An anonymous woman’s letter. A classic, truly. One can't help but admire the effortless charm of that era. Doctor Zhivago. The cranes are taking flight. Breakfast at Tiffany's.
That initial list is quite peculiar; I haven't encountered anything quite like it before.🙄 I find it hard to believe any critics from New York or Los Angeles would ever put something like this together. It feels as though Chicago is desperately trying to outdo everyone else in the US. I can't help but wonder what exactly those folks over at the Chicago Sun-Times were thinking.🤷
If I recall correctly, that’s the one starring Michael York. It’s been quite a long time since I last saw it, but it left a lasting impression as a truly excellent film. Personally, I find it superior to much of modern SF—perhaps second only to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
hush now, charlotte... hurricane peaks from here to eternity back in Aspen last year children of kings one man and one woman the final tango in Paris I never promised you a rose garden remember my song house of sand and fog shadows of forgotten ancestors that dark object of desire how green was my valley letter from an unknown woman
Robert De Niro in *Taxi Driver*. Marlon Brando in his final tango in Paris. Dustin Hoffman’s performance in *Rain Man* was truly remarkable. One can't help but admire such nuanced character work.
I still find myself thinking about his performances in films like *Maestro* and *The Reporter*, where he was truly exceptional. Or even his work in series like *The Filing Cabinet* or *Cyclops*. As a stage actor, he’s easily among the finest in the business. I’ve heard it many times, and I couldn't agree more—the man possesses an incredible voice, both in tone and diction. Even if he were reciting mediocre poetry, he would make it sound absolutely sublime.
Rules of the Game by Renoar. He gets so much praise, always sitting at the top of those "greatest films of all time" lists—even being cited as the premier international masterpiece... I have to admit, I don't quite grasp the hype. It isn't a total disaster, but it certainly didn't live up to my expectations.
I wouldn't dare single anyone out, especially not in a negative light. They are all absolute legends. However, if I had to say one thing, it's that their older work consistently outshines their more recent films.
