Upgrading my old PC for gaming in Desktops ·
It’s not even that bad, especially since you can actually unlock it.
Budget PC build recommendations? in Desktops ·
Why bother with used gear when you can grab something brand new with a full warranty?
Go ahead, try doing Photoshop work on a 17-inch screen... see how much fun you have.

That $2,400 build is decent enough, but it doesn't include a monitor... I'd much rather have a bigger screen.

Don't go lower than this. It's an online retailer with a physical store in Chicago. Plus, $667 they offer free shipping and setup

She needs to just come out and say what her budget actually is. It’s pointless trying to build anything without knowing the numbers. You could spec out a killer rig for $3,000 plus a monitor, but if she doesn't have the cash, we're just wasting time. Honestly, since she's currently between jobs, a laptop might be the smarter play—you get the screen and the machine in one shot, and you aren't getting crazy performance for cheap right now anyway. But hey, we can see what we can put together once we know the limit.

mellowtiger83 said:Scour Craigslist for a used X4 and pick up a secondhand Quadro card too. You’re looking at maybe $800 max $333. If you hunt for a good deal on an old Quadro or ATI FireGL, it's worth it. Since we're talking 3D software, the jump will be massive compared to that weak 4800 series you're running now.

No point in doing that yet. Let them see how much of a difference SSD makes first before they start planning any big upgrades.

Go with the cheaper one. It's the exact same card, just from different suppliers. 👍

I decided to add an HDD too. If there isn't anything else I should swap out to get more bang for my buck, I'm pulling the trigger on the order tomorrow. 🕺
Also about the case, https://www.amazon.com/ms-armor-case-power-supply/dp/B00EXAMPLE—this one looks way better to me visually... but I noticed it’s missing a USB 3.0 port. 🤔

For the price, this build is solid. The only thing I'd upgrade is the RX 460 to the 4GB VRAM version, since games are getting hungrier for memory lately.

I need some suggestions for a Gaming build under 10 bucks $0.00 just for the tower. No monitor or peripherals needed.

Also, can someone drop a link to a reliable shop where I can just buy a pre-built rig without Windows?

The software being used, the upload speed—that’s what actually dictates how the stream performs.

Here's what I was talking about. My buddy's running an i7 laptop with 12GB of RAM and a 960, yet he’s out here streaming games like Pokémon FireRed... I’m still sticking to my guns: if you want to stream, you either need a beast of a PC or two separate rigs.

Anyway, just dropping a link to the forum from my old partnership network so you can check out some of the experiences there.

There you go, hope it helps! 🙂

You can't compare an i7 and a GTX 960 mobile setup to actual desktop equivalents. There's a massive gap there.

I haven't seen it this cheap anywhere else. Is Protis any good when it comes to warranty and stuff?
Any other (better) recommendations under $833. Just Nvidia please.
CPU is a 3570K, PSU is a CX 500, looking for 1920x1200

There's an entire thread on the subforum about how much trouble they cause with returns. Look it up yourself. In this price range, you're basically stuck with the GTX 1060 mentioned or an RX 480, and since you're dead set on Nvidia, that's your only move.

( For $230, you could grab an RX 480 from the XFX GTR series, which is easily the best card in the RX lineup for cooling, noise, and overall build quality. )

crimsonstag84 said:The 275GB Crucial MX300, SATA3, CT275MX300SSD1.
It’s an MSI B150M Bazooka Plus, LGA 1151 socket.
It’s an Intel Core i5-6402P (6MB Cache, up to 3.40 GHz) on the LGA 1151 socket, I guess.
The Zalman Z1 NEO mid tower case.
The XFX RX 480 8GB GTR (RX-480P8DFA6) features 8 GB of DDR5 memory with a 256-bit bus, running at 1288/8000 MHz. I guess it's a decent little card.
It’s an FSP Fortron/Source Hyper 500W unit, ATX 2.31 spec—specifically the HP500, model PPA5005003. I guess it's just one of those standard power supplies.
WD Blue 1TB HDD, 3.5", 7200RPM, 64MB Cache, SATA3, WD10EZEX
I guess this is just a single 8GB stick of DDR4 Crucial RAM, clocked at 2133MHz with CL15 latency. It's the CT8G4DFS8213 model.

Total: $2.25 AMD (assembly included, free shipping)

Honestly, I wouldn't have built it any differently myself. 😁🙏

A buddy wants a new GPU, but honestly, I’m not even close to making a smart call here.
He plays mainstream games, while I just stick to Solitaire. My PC build is an AMD x6 6100, 8GB RAM, SSD plus a hard drive. PSU is fine. Budget is maybe $100-$120. Probably shopping at Best Buy.

Given the price, what makes sense? Should he grab an RX 560, or stretch the budget—and if so, for what? Also, how much sense does a 1050 make if the cheapest one at Best Buy is around $150?

Thanks for the tips.

Don't look past an RX 560 for 1080p given that budget.
https://www.bestbuy.com/graphics-card-example

Best Buy in my hometown—it's only about a $2 difference compared to the Gigabyte card, so no point paying for shipping.

since I don't know much about building PCs, I need some help 🙂

Shopping - I'd prefer Best Buy or somewhere similar in Cleveland.
Doesn't matter what the case looks like, just looking for a cheap option.

Purpose: gaming depending on the price, doesn't have to run everything on high settings.
Medium quality is fine.

Ideally would include: an SSD 120GB for the OS and a few apps
DDR4 RAM (8GB)
a cheap DVD drive😁

Thanks in advance, if I think of anything else I'll post it here.

If you're paying cash, you'll get better deals at other stores than Best Buy; they tend to be pricier on certain items.

Look, there isn't enough room in the budget for an SSD unless you drop down to an i3. I'd rather go with a stronger processor now and just add an $117 SSD later when you can afford it.

I was wondering... is it a bad idea to throw this new card into my current setup while I wait for the other components, or would I be better off just waiting so I don't end up frying something? 😁
