Look, I keep telling you the same thing over and over again. PBS isn't obligated to broadcast every single foreign league. Not even the Champions League. You get what I'm saying?
Just look at this week, for example. Out of seven days, you've got five filled with matches. That’s just how the business works; if you have specific tastes, you pay for them. I'm not saying they shouldn't show the other half of the match—not at all—but I really don't think we should be complaining about there not being enough soccer on TV.
p.s. The Golden Boot was Balogov's brainchild. It's a disgrace to him and a headache for us. I just hope we can finally retire it so we don't have to deal with it again.
Look, I honestly feel like the sheer amount of soccer available nowadays just kills that sense of anticipation for a big match. I think I’ve watched more games in this past year alone than I did during the entire stretch from 2014 to 2018—and I probably only bet on about 1% of them, but that's beside the point. It’s just not the same anymore. There’s a game on TV practically every other day. Comparing it to how things used to be is a bit much, but there's so much soccer on screen that people don't even bother thinking about politics or the economy anymore. 😉
Anyway, the amount of free (or mostly free) soccer we have access to is more than enough. Just look at the English; their national broadcaster doesn't even show the Premier League or the FA Cup. Nope—they have to pay for Sky to see those, while the public networks are stuck with lower leagues or the League Cup.
It’s plenty. If anyone wants more, cable, satellite, or high-speed internet isn't exactly breaking the bank. What really gets on my nerves, though, is stupid stuff like showing replays of a game while the actual live match is still going on. 🙏 If you bought the broadcasting rights, then just show the game!
p.s. The Golden Boot was created by Balog. Enough said for the smart people out there. ☕
Hey there. If you're looking to catch more action, there are plenty of international channels out there, plus the whole internet at your fingertips. My goodness, even that hilarious local station, ABC, is carrying the Copa Libertadores.
The big, underlying question here is actually what happens once the foreign investors move on?
It isn't just about what the immediate impact will be, but what this ultimately means for the club's long-term survival. Right now, we can only speculate since none of these sugar daddies have actually walked away from their teams yet. But if you look at Liverpool FC, it’s clear that having an outside investor doesn't mean "free money." In fact, the Reds are currently stuck in a pretty messy spot because of constant bickering among the owners. Chasing instant success is a massive gamble. Honestly, only the absolute wealthiest owners—and even then, only those with endless patience—can afford to fail right out of the gate. Otherwise, a massive decline is almost certain, and we could even be looking at total financial collapse.
Personally, I’ve always been against building "instant" squads, regardless of where the owner comes from.
nerazzuri, come on, quit joking around. Red Star basically handed their Champions League semifinal over to Panathinaikos on a silver platter. hey! we're talking about a Champions League semifinal here! And don't even get me started on Radnicki—or should I say "The Merchants"? Look, those official decrees deciding who gets to be the champion are one thing, but if you ask me, they're just a much less subtle way of showing the exact same underlying issue.
So, I wouldn't necessarily say these are problems created by so-called 'modern football.' Rather, I'd argue that when you introduce massive amounts of money into the mix, corruption just becomes more intense. It happens in just about everything else, doesn't it?
briskdrifter40 said:The fans of the rival club are finally admitting they rigged their European matches. A few years back, their team suffered a humiliating loss in Malta, and I’ll be the first to admit I couldn't stop poking fun at them for it. At the time, they tried to claim that Zecevic and Bjekovic had fixed the game to rake in money from the betting houses. Then, just two or three seasons ago, they lost 5-2 at home against Maccabi, and naturally, I had to tease them again. Once more, their supporters scrambled to make excuses, insisting the match was thrown and that Zecevic and Bjekovic had pocketed massive sums by betting on a Maccabi win and an over of 7+ goals. When you actually ask them why they didn't just fix the score to a narrow 1-2 win or rig it so they would win 5-2 instead, they never seem to have an answer; it seems it's only ever "rigged" when they happen to lose.
Oh, please. Even the Yankees sold out a Champions League semifinal once upon a time.
Yeah, it was basically the same story for three or four months while Jaap Stam was still finding his rhythm and struggling to gel with the squad.
Once he finally settled in with the rest of the guys, he played so incredibly well that he actually forced Blažičko to apologize. I honestly think that, alongside winning the Champions League, stands as one of the absolute peaks of his entire career.
I found him absolutely fascinating back at Lazio when they moved him over to right back; he played that role so brilliantly, showing everyone he had both the technical skill and the high football IQ to match.

And as for this part... honestly, okay, it's his opinion. I guess he knows better than anyone else exactly how much gas he has left in the tank. But here's the thing... most guys his age—let alone guys his size—can only dream of making those kinds of lung-busting runs with the ball in the 100th minute of a match... just like those sprints he pulled against the LA Lakers...
That’s true. But that’s what being a professional is all about. It's not like being, say, the brother of some executive VP.
Any resemblance to actual persons is purely coincidental, right?
I once had one of those rubber ducks. The tail just snapped right off. 😢
It was absolute chaos everywhere. I mean, everything from Madison Square Garden to the local high school stadium was getting hit. Honestly, it felt more intense than some of those military exercises we see on TV. 👍 he he, [ćiro] I can just imagine [/ćiro] if things got really crazy, it’d be like that old comedy sketch where they keep asking, 'Where's your ID? Where's your ID?' 🤣
