I’ve always had a soft spot for Talk Talk during their synth-pop era, though they don't quite hit the same way Depeche Mode does. I haven't really dug into their later stuff yet, but you guys have definitely piqued my interest. Honestly, if bands like Depeche Mode and Duran Duran could pivot toward a bluesier sound later in their careers, I’m betting this could turn out to be pretty interesting too...
Lonesome Hobo said:Čorba - tonight you're being entertained by musicians who drink The only Čorba album recorded for Columbia Records... my absolute favorite! I honestly don't get what there is to dislike about this record. You're indifferent to "Crying"? Or "When Do You Walk"? How about "Žika živac"?
Look, it’s a solid album... but let's be real, it doesn't hit as hard as their first four. Between "A Minute of Silence" and "Don't Tell My Boyfriend," you've got two of the weakest tracks from that early Čorba era. Toss in "Besan Dogs" and "Mangup" which aren't exactly masterpieces either, and you end up with about four total fillers on the record. Even if everything else is killer, having that many skips is a bit much for a band that usually holds themselves to a higher standard...
The Pogues - Peace & Love - my absolute favorite. I see AllMusic gives it 4 stars, looks like people are finally starting to realize the Pogues were actually killer even when they weren't leaning into that folksy vibe (copyright by Žika živac) The Rolling Stones - Black & Blue - solid choice. Really great album The Clash - Sandinista - a masterpiece Pink Floyd - Animals - the guitar work from David Gilmour is arguably his best ever (specifically in Dogs), but as a whole, it’s probably not sitting among the top tier of classic Floyd albums Santana - Havana Moon - pure perfection, zero flaws. This is one of those desert island albums. For you, for me, for my brother—and probably for nobody else... Animals - Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted - a personal favorite, really good stuff Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the Edge of Town - underrated? Well, if you look at AllMusic, sure, it only has 4.5 stars, making it the only one of his first seven albums that didn't hit a perfect five. In that sense, maybe, though it might be my most intimate favorite Springsteen record Led Zeppelin - Holy - the first sign that someone doesn't consider it a masterpiece Čorba - Osmi nervni slom / Idoli - Čokolada - I agree, but let's not get bogged down in American domestic stuff...
Here are two of mine to throw in the mix: Bob Dylan - Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid - WTF? Everyone trashes this album just because "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is his "most commercial" track, completely forgetting that a) it's an awesome song anyway, and b) the rest of the material, including the instrumentals, is top-notch. Even more underrated is Dylan, where he took some liberties with covers, but that's just a good album, not a great one, so I won't go on about it... Neil Young - Dead Man - easily one of the greatest soundtracks ever made; I get chills every single time I play it. And Time Fades Away is way too underrated compared to the spam of other albums from the early seventies...

Man, I feel totally blindsided too. For once, I'm right there with you... 😁
Man, times change, and so does everything else along with them... Honestly, music should be the only thing that matters. I still remember back in the late eighties, blasting Vic Vuk while cranking the volume, when my grandma suddenly burst into my room, slammed the balcony doors shut, and started yelling that I was losing my mind and was gonna end up behind bars... Just a few years later, I was the one slamming the doors shut just so I could listen to those Rockers from the Mississippi in peace. Times changed; everyone had their own way of doing things now, and I didn't need Grandma watching over my shoulder to realize some stuff just isn't meant to be played out loud.
Anyway, enough with the political talk, this thread is about a legend of our music scene, so we might as well get back to him.

But honestly, the kids back then absolutely loved it just because he was the first one jumping all over the stage...😁
Ugh, here we go again with the politics... 🙄
Romana was always top-tier, honestly, and most of her other stuff isn't half bad either... I’m basically forced to put music above politics here, otherwise I’d have to walk away from the band that pretty much defined my entire teenage years... Look, I still love Čorba just as much as ever, but man... it actually hurts to see Bora being pushed as some kind of forced patriot... At the end of the day, music is the only thing that actually matters...
slyviper47 said:I’ve got nothing but love for Meri Cetinić, really, but honestly? I still think the original version sung by Lado Leskovarov hits different... you know, that classic vibe...🙂
I’m totally with you on this one. The Leskovarov version is easily the best, followed by the one from Đorđ Marjanović, and then maybe Meri... even though he absolutely loved that stuff...
Has Leskovarov released his version yet? If so, what kind of digital format are we talking about? I’ve only got my hands on some ancient cassette tape...

Finally, a list we can all actually get behind. Remember that time Keaton ran into Ariana Grande over at Importante and asked if he could borrow some cash to beef up his bank account? 😂 He was headed to some wedding and didn't want to deal with small change—not a hundred bucks here or there—he wanted to handle it like a boss. Total legend. Carl.
I’m only giving credit to two guys: Buster Keaton and Steve McQueen.
For the longest time, nobody else even came close, but then you had Humphrey Bogart, Jack Lemmon, some unknown guy (where did he even go?), Anthony Quinn, Steve McQueen, Alain Delon, and James Dean...
I've got this massive vinyl collection, but honestly, I’m pretty hopeless when it comes to ripping stuff or any of that technical nonsense... so the short answer is no, I don't have anything in digital format. You might find a stray little file or two in some random "miscellaneous" folder on Soulseek, but nothing from the MiK scene.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, honestly the first thing that pops into my head whenever I think of Britvić... Here’s the "female" version of the lyrics, the way Meri Cetinić sings it:
Find me in the suburbs (Z. Runjić-D. Britvić)
These backyards full of sky and birds, they drift in like old music deep inside of us and stay there forever.
Find me in the suburbs, on the street, at the crossroads. Where the lilacs scattered their pearls, where spring touched our lips and then slipped away...
Find me in the suburbs, by the passing trains. We'll be alone at the dawn of day, we'll be alone in the songs of birds just like before....
Sails made of lace and flowers are dreaming, waiting for a wind to carry them away. Can you hear our suburbs calling you, searching for you through the old houses and streets.
Find me in the suburbs, kiss me in the memory. At least during those hours when you're all alone, if you still love me even a little bit find me...
You don't have the ring from our wedding, but you remember that roof at the edge of town. With no fancy flowers, no veil or gold, I was happier with you than I've ever been.
Facts. Rest in peace. He was one of those absolute legends from back when we didn't have to feel embarrassed about actually enjoying catchy, fun music. 😢
This reminds me of a conversation I had about 15 years ago standing outside a hotel in San Francisco with this buddy of mine who just had this pathological need to comment on every single hot girl that walked past us. A little snippet of the dialogue:
friend: - Look at her, man! What would you do to her!!! stormyviper11 (stays silent) one minute later friend: - Joeoooo! Uuuuuuuu! God, she is gorgeous! What would you do to her! stormyviper11 (stays silent) a bit later friend: - Check out those breasts! What would you do to her! stormyviper11 (stays silent) some time after that friend: - Look at those legs! What would you do to her! What would you do to her! stormyviper11 (in a quiet voice): - Can I ask you something? friend: - Go ahead. stormyviper11: - What *would* you do to her? friend (confused): Well... I'd fuck her. stormyviper11 (getting annoyed): Well, yeah, so would I! Anyone normal would! So, seriously, JUST SHUT UP ALREADY! 😍 🙂 I really am terrible at dealing with people... 🙂
