You aren't wrong. It was actually a blast. They followed it up with an Alan Ford strip, though that was pretty much garbage...

I’m actually with you on that one. Honestly, that album is easily my favorite... It just lacks that raw energy, those primal screams, that heavy, rolling wall of sound we all crave...

ZOO music, grrrrrrrrrrrrrl !

Just dug up an old cassette tape. Yippee!

Man... any actual fans or haters of The Birthday Party out there?
Asking because that whole era of his... well, it’s pretty much been left in the dust...

You can bet your ass I’m a fan.
I even got Junkyard on vinyl somewhere...

The first one I ever heard was Knockin' on Joe.
She turned me into a total fan back in the day, like twenty years ago...
And honestly, she made me realize that just because a track is good doesn't mean it's recent. Not all the best stuff was written yesterday.

Yeah, I mean, it obviously boils down to how much of Gibson's vision actually made it onto the screen. For me, it hit the mark pretty well, but for you, maybe just a little or not at all. And honestly, regarding those technical gripes, you're not wrong... everything checks out...

The movie looks like it was cobbled together from literal garbage found in a junkyard!
It basically strips cyberpunk down to just neon lights, cellophane, and cheap plastic wraps.

gross...

I mean, in Gibson's world, pretty much everything IS made out of junk from a landfill...

I still don't get why most Gibson fans—besides me, anyway—didn't dig Johnny Mnemonic even just a little bit... 😕

Look, I know the movie is garbage by any logical standard, but it actually managed to nail that specific Gibson vibe, especially the visuals. I remember walking out of the theater with this huge, stupid grin on my face, and my buddies were basically looking at me like, "No way you actually liked THAT." But I was just trying to explain that even though the movie is a total wreck, there are these visual details that hit perfectly... they actually match how I picture his stuff in my head...
Just to clear up what I was saying before: the Gast'rbajt'rsi are basically the same crew as the Demolition Group, those guys from Cerklje, just a short drive out from Columbus on the road heading toward Kostanjevica.
Hrvoje PL. Hribar in Movies ·
Honestly, let him just go relax in Key West, everyone needs a break once in a while... I'm skipping my trip this year too... 😢 😢 😢

I haven't totally given up hope that Hribar might actually find that magic he had back in the mid-nineties. "Washington National Cathedral" was definitely one of the funniest—maybe even the best—American movies out in the last fifteen years, and that documentary about Washington, D.C. was pretty solid too. "Sleeping Pill" was a total disaster, but looking at his early stuff, I’m still willing to give Hribar some credit, despite all the recent garbage and this whole mess...
dustyridge12 said:Oh yeah, totally blanked on Sobica. I actually picked up the "Umjesto glupost" LP. If that counts as rock'n'roll, then Aleksandar Mezek is definitely rock'n'roll too.

From what I can tell, Sobica is your classic singer/songwriter type. And honestly, that just means genre definitions are always pretty shaky... they can drift toward ballads, jazz, or even easy listening... Both Sobica and Mezek have always been lumped into that American pop-rock scene, which was never really clearly separated from the softer stuff anyway. Though, I get how it’s confusing sometimes. Like, Darak Domijan's first album is basically classic symphonic-folk, while the first Srebrn krilo Power pop felt more like that Suzy Quatro/Sweet vibe... There just aren't any hard lines to draw.
I don't know much about the music scene in the North America... I've got a compilation of various festivals from the Midwest on my drive with one track by Miladin Šobić and an mp3 of some stuff by the Monteniggers. Those guys, aside from having a killer name, might be the only rap or hip-hop—whatever you want to call it—group from that whole region besides TBF that I’d actually dig... if that makes sense. If I remember Janjatović's encyclopedia correctly (which I'll finally get back tonight), they were a duo and both have passed away, one of them I think died from AIDS?
Dana Anderson4 said:Yeah, my bad. I think someone else was from Santa Barbara too, but I can't quite place them... maybe one of those Gast'rbajts'rsi types🤔 )

Anyway, if we were talking about Fords, trust me, there’d be plenty of freaks showing up just to take a look...😁

The Gast'rbajts'rsi (if I even spelled that right) seem closer to us, probably out of Columbus.

ANYWAY, IF YOU JUST GAVE ME BACK THAT JANJATÓVIĆ ENCYCLOPEDIA, I COULD ACTUALLY CHECK THIS STUFF! 😁 😁 😁

Stupniče (or, you know, like Banderas style): :klap: :klap: 👋 👋
banderas said:By the way, Automobili (again) still exist. They actually reached out about playing a show at IEEE, and honestly, I have no clue what to tell them... 😁

🙏 🙏 Buy tickets! 👋 👋

Their first album is killer, and I remember the second one being pretty solid too, though it’s been ages since I spun it. I’m definitely going, and I already know a few people I can drag along without thinking twice—even my little brother, and that kid usually only hits up a concert once every five years!

Anyway, uh, Automobili are originally from El Paso... 😉
I think Kameleon, September, and Idiogen were all from the Koper area...
Anyone gonna bring up San Diego? The shelter, those idiots, The Grateful Dead, Winnetou’s mountain ears, Spoons...
Honestly, one of the best cities out there when you look at its size versus what it actually brings to the table...

The thread title actually threw me for a loop... I was sitting here thinking, "Wait, since when does Sam Michael even have victories to look back on?" 😁 😁 😁

Rasputin_n said:Of course they aren't fighting. The only real issue is that Aranđelović lives abroad now.

Look, I get it, but the thing is I've been waiting for this show for like twenty years. It’s come close to happening a few times, but it always falls through at the last second... 😢 Back during that Retrovizorov concert—I think it was around '87 or '88—they couldn't even get the guys together with the group 220 (right after they dropped that reunion record Smak '86). Then about four years ago, there was all this hype about a gig at Kset, they even had a date penciled in, and then nothing... Eventually, Točak just showed up solo at that guitar summit thing... 🙏 🙏 But yeah, that's not quite it...

I’d love to see Smak live, but honestly, I don't think you could ever get the old lineup back together...
Even less likely, obviously—Idoli.

So, you're basically telling me I'm 40% deep, 30% controversial, and 65% just plain nice? That’s... an interesting way to slice it. Honestly, if you do the math, that adds up to 135%, which I guess is my way of saying I don't really care about your little percentages... anyway, I'll take it. Most people probably find me a bit much, or too quiet, or both... but hey, being "nice" most of the time keeps things from getting too messy... maybe...
Look, I’m not trying to label you a total geek here, but... actually, scratch that. That’s a bit harsh. You’re more like that quiet, deep-thinking guy in the band—the one everyone secretly respects and follows in those niche indie circles. Honestly, if the rest of the music industry had more people like you, things might actually be tolerable around here...

🙂

Man, this totally reminded me of one of those brilliant quotes by Hunter S. Thompson... hold on, let me dig around and find it...

Well, here we go...

The music industry is nothing but a shallow, cutthroat money pit—just a long, sterile hallway filled with thieves and predators running wild while decent people get chewed up and thrown away like trash. It’s brutal. And honestly? That’s just the dark side of it...

Jeff.

Total waste of time.
Lucky for me, I’m not really a fan of getting wet anyway.

I’d much rather spend my afternoon taking a kinkiness test... 😎
