Healthcare in America in Health ·
It is high time to find a new doctor!
I remember one particular instance where a substitute physician extended my medical leave, and instead of being helpful, a nurse took out some white-out on the paperwork and started aggressively ranting at me about how things don't work that way and how people like me were going to get her paycheck docked... all while I was dealing with a fever that they couldn't figure out the cause of for over a month.
Even though people suggested I should file a formal grievance with a review board, I just gathered my things without saying a word (which, looking back, I honestly regret not doing) and went to find a different doctor to take my medical files to. When you're in a place where they label you a malingerer instead of actually treating you—because clearly, many people there simply don't know their jobs—and where nurses are "cutting" patients' leave and feeling entitled to use such a rude tone, there really isn't much point in asking for anything from them.
Struggling with weight issues in Health ·
Building up your stamina should be a gradual process, starting with light walks on short routes before you slowly ramp up both your pace and distance each day.
Cycling is another fantastic option, and you can follow that same principle of steadily increasing your intensity over time. It’s also helpful to spread these activities out, perhaps by getting some movement in several times throughout the day.
Regarding weight management, I really applaud the way you are approaching this, recognizing that excess weight is truly a matter of health.
While there are countless diets, workout routines, and various supplements out there, given your age, it wouldn't be very wise to dive into any of them without first consulting with medical professionals.
I'm not sure where you're located, but if you happen to be in a place like Indianapolis, for instance, I know the pediatric department at the local children's hospital has several specialists who focus specifically on obesity in children and adolescents.
If you'd find it helpful, I would be more than happy to share a few more tips regarding nutrition. Do you feel like you have the support and understanding of those closest to you?

I can't say for certain how to answer those specific questions, but I would suggest that you really push the doctors to be transparent about what they actually know and what their current plan of action is.
It might be beneficial to have someone step in to speak with them—someone who stays calm under pressure and feels fully prepared, perhaps even jotting down some notes beforehand to ensure nothing is missed. It doesn't necessarily have to be the person most emotionally invested in the situation who handles the conversation.
Quick help needed—I'm freaking out! in Health ·
Or perhaps we aren't actually looking at a little bit of food, but rather just a tiny plug of wax?
Anyone else on a quarter dose of Eglonil? in Health ·
I’m feeling a little bit confused about the direction here! Are we looking to put on some serious weight, but somehow wanting to do it even faster than before? Or is that the goal?
How do I find out what I'm allergic to? in Health ·
Testing during the quieter winter months is really only effective if you're looking to pin down allergies related to grass pollen or weeds and similar seasonal triggers.
If you suspect you might be reacting to specific chemicals, however, those tests can actually be performed at any point throughout the year, regardless of the season.
I am curious, though—did your doctors ever suggest getting those specific tests done?

Honestly, even the doctors don't truly have all the answers; they can only make educated guesses, much like the rest of us.
It really isn't all that unusual for someone to have no memory of the actual incident itself, as this happens quite frequently even with much minor injuries.
Just a few months ago, my son was in a fight where he took several hits to the head and ended up with a split lip, and he had absolutely no recollection of what went down. He felt like he had missed an entire segment of a movie. At first, it really frustrated him, which made him seem a bit scattered and out of sorts.
I don't think he ever fully recovered those specific memories, but he eventually filled in those "blanks" by listening to the stories from people who were standing nearby.
While your situation is a bit different from ours, I wanted to mention that it isn't actually vital for him to remember that exact moment. What matters infinitely more is that his long-term memories remain intact and that he focuses on recovering from the physical trauma.
Most significant bouts of amnesia tend to be temporary, just like Hannah Rodriguez16 mentioned!
Please try not to worry too much, and I am sending nothing but the very best wishes to you and especially to the poor soul involved!
Back lipoma removal surgery in Health ·
A few years back, I had to go under the knife to remove a massive lipoma from my back. It’s actually a pretty straightforward procedure, though in my case, the surgeon couldn't just do it as an outpatient visit—even though he originally planned to—simply because mine was exceptionally large.
To be honest, I was way more anxious about the whole general anesthesia thing than the actual surgery itself, mostly because I'd had a pretty rough experience with it in the past. I eventually managed to talk the medical team into performing the procedure under local anesthesia instead, and I have to say, watching everything happen while being awake was quite a fascinating experience.
I ended up with a significant scar, but it's quite thin and hasn't caused me any issues whatsoever.
Kidney issues - questions and concerns... in Health ·
Way to go, Angela Wright!
It really is quite fascinating to observe how certain "doctors on duty" tend to pounce on specific terminology that they deem interesting, while the actual core of the matter—which is figuring out how to truly help people—gets pushed right to the sidelines.

Oh, right—I completely blanked on mentioning the biopsy!
But please excuse me, I’m feeling a bit of tightness in my back today and I can't stop coughing, so I am actually feeling quite anxious and am currently putting together a list of specific tests to request from my doctor at the Mayo Clinic.

Kyle Lee7, I honestly think the best way to kick things off would be to schedule a full-body MRI, followed by some lung imaging, an EEG, and a CT scan.
Once you've had those done, please make sure to check back in here on the forum because I'm certain you'll notice a few more symptoms in the meantime, which will help us suggest the right next steps for further testing.

I’m starting to get the distinct impression that Arthur Palmer7 isn't actually worried or feeling under the weather at all, but is instead just popping onto the forum to have a little bit of fun with us.
A rash like that could potentially be caused by a low platelet count.
If you don't see it receding quickly or if it actually starts spreading, it would be a really good idea to go ahead and get a complete blood count done just to be safe!
Pain in my left arm, chest, and stomach in Health ·
I honestly haven't a clue what might be causing that, though it could certainly be worth getting your spine checked out or perhaps scheduling a consultation with a chiropractor.
It just occurred to me because everything you're feeling seems to be localized to that one side—your left side—and issues stemming from the spine can often manifest through some pretty strange nerve reflections.
Stomach issues? in Health ·
I actually dealt with some incredibly similar symptoms, along with a few extra complications.
My diagnosis ended up being GERD, chronic gastritis, and a hiatal hernia, but I managed to get everything under control thanks to Controloc.

Dealing with frizzy flyaways in Health ·
It’s certainly unusual and quite an interesting turn of events, but there is absolutely no reason to feel dissatisfied about it.
At the very least, you aren't forced to deal with any mini-valleys or setbacks. Just embrace this new chapter life has handed you, especially since you managed to achieve this change without having to spend a single cent or undergo any uncomfortable procedures.
Flat feet help? in Health ·
If you’ve already been consulting with orthopedic specialists, I’m curious why you didn't bring this specific question up with them during your appointments?
From what I understand about these kinds of issues, focusing on strengthening the muscles in your feet can actually make a significant difference, though I suspect using custom orthotics might just be a way to manage the discomfort rather than providing an actual cure.
Since I haven't personally dealt with this particular issue, I can't quite recall the specific exercises used for rehabilitation, but I have always believed that walking barefoot on pebbles or similar uneven surfaces naturally engages those small muscle groups.
Given how young you still are, I am quite confident that you can make a lot of progress through consistent effort, and I truly wish you nothing but the best of luck with your recovery!
Dealing with Herpes? in Health ·
Moving forward, whenever you start feeling those tiny tingling sensations that signal an upcoming Herpes Simplex outbreak, try rubbing the area with a strong alcohol—something like high-proof vodka, an alcohol-based aftershave, or even pure medical rubbing alcohol—every single hour. There have been times when this method actually worked well enough for the breakout to never even surface.
Once a sore does actually appear, you really need something with drying properties, such as a zinc-based ointment, though some people swear by using regular toothpaste as well.
You can find all sorts of specialized treatments at any local pharmacy. I’ve personally tried various ointments, including one called Herplex, but I often find that these simple home remedies actually perform better. It's also worth remembering that these outbreaks usually happen when your immune system is run down, so there is absolutely no harm in supplementing with vitamins, especially when you know you're heading into a stressful period.
I truly hope this helps you out!
Breathing and Digestion in Health ·
It’s just like that old joke you hear floating around!
A guy walks into his doctor's office complaining about having terrible diarrhea, even though he’s already tried everything else on the prescription list. Instead of more stomach meds, the doctor decides to prescribe him something specifically for anxiety to help him relax. His buddy asks him later, "Wait, isn't that for something else entirely? And does it actually work?"
"Oh, it works alright!" he says. "I'm still stuck on the toilet, but at least I couldn't care less anymore!"
