Armageddon (1998) in Movies ·
Oh, my dear Steve Buscemi 🙄

Maybe the guy was just trying to put food on the table for his kids 🙏

Because of that absolute garbage, Princess's Diary 🙄 or whatever. But maybe it’s just prejudice 😁

The first thing I noticed is that the cover is almost an exact replica of Pride and Prejudice. I'm definitely checking this out. My only issue is that I can't really picture Hathaway as Jane; she just doesn't give off those intellectual vibes to me.

Larry Cooper40 said:I checked at Walmart too, and they told me the distributor is being arrogant—asking way too much for the film and demanding upfront cash. I heard the same thing at other video stores.

It looks like nothing but journalists and critics have actually seen it.😂

It was in my video store at the beginning of summer.🥳
Which actors have let you down? in Movies ·
You could pretty much list everything after Pulp Fiction for Travolta.
The "intrusions" that defined the film in Movies ·
Zhang Yimou spent the '90s making socially conscious, heavy-hitting films that were huge successes, but then in 2004, he pivoted to martial arts movies like Hero followed by House of Flying Daggers.

Jerry Martin19 said:Alright, man, maybe I was wrong to assume all Woody Allen movies are just romantic comedies, but I still feel like Match Point hits differently than anything else he’s done, even if I haven't seen his entire filmography. If you were going to categorize his stuff, it feels like most of them have at least one "pair" or a recurring vibe, but Match Point doesn't seem to have a match... that's all I'm getting at. Btw, I don't know if Woody Allen has anything this cold in his catalog. Does he?

Even *Interiors* fits that pattern. I haven't sat down to watch it yet, but from everything I've read, it’s easily his darkest work—definitely not your typical Woody Allen flick. It’s packed with Bergman-esque elements. Some people even go as far as calling it a blatant rip-off of an Ingmar Bergman film, though I can't recall exactly which one. 🤷

I wouldn't necessarily call it a deviation. Back in 1989, he shot Crimes and Misdemeanors, which follows two distinct paths: one humorous segment featuring Woody Allen, and then a heavy-hitting drama. Then you have September and Interiors, which I haven't seen myself, though I did read "Woody Allen on Woody Allen," a collection of interviews where he breaks down his own work. You can pretty much split his filmography into three buckets. First, there are the straight comedies like Sleepers, Love and Death, and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, etc., followed by those pure dramas mentioned above. Finally, there are the comedies with strong dramatic undertones, such as Manhattan, Annie Hall, and Hannah and Her Sisters...
Robert De Niro in Movies ·
wearytinker8 said:Does anyone actually have a real explanation for why De Niro and Al Pacino are constantly lumped together as the greatest actors in history? It’s like they’re always being compared to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones... just two massive pillars that people can't stop pitting against each other. And then there was that whole buildup for their scenes in Heat... the anticipation was almost unreal. Why does that specific pairing carry so much weight?
Is it because they're Italian, or is it just because they both hit the big time with The Godfather?
Why not go with someone like Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson instead? I'm not saying they're my absolute favorites or anything... but then again, Nicholson has three Oscars under his belt, while Al Pacino has only managed one...
Please, don't be ridiculous... every single model is going to end up saying "De Niro and Al Pacino."

Yeah, partly because of The Godfather, but also because they played those gritty, dangerous types—the mobsters—so perfectly. It’s not necessarily why they're the best, but it's how they gained that cult status with the mainstream audience. About 2.5 years ago, when I started taking movies more seriously, I actually thought Al Pacino was the greatest actor on the planet. I don't even know why 🤷 he just had this charisma, looked tough, had that presence 😎 Since then, I've discovered plenty of other heavyweights. For me, Nicholson is a more complete actor than those two combined.

Cheers to internet theft,😍

Anyway, back to the point. When I first joined this forum, I had maybe a hundred movies—mostly recent hits and a few older titles. Now, my collection has grown to over three hundred, including some really hard-to-find gems 😍 All thanks to various trades and one generous donor 😉 I won't name names, though, because I don't want anyone hounding her 😁 (meaning, I don't want people bugging her for more movies just because I'm getting mine 😍 😉 )
Drew Reyes5 said:Does anyone know which video rental shop might have some old classics available, or better yet, where I could actually buy them? By old movies, I mean stuff like Breakfast at Tiffany's or Sissy...

In Boston, we have Breakfast at Tiffany's, so I assume you guys in Chicago should be able to find it too.🙂

Joseph Lee3 said:Spacey passed on playing Clouseau way back in 2000 when they were first looking at reviving the franchise, and Mike Myers did too. Eventually, Steve Martin stepped up, and now they’re already filming his second Panther flick. I haven't actually sat through the first one, but still...

As for Kline, yeah, he probably would have been a stronger choice than Martin. If he had been cast, I might have actually bothered to watch it.

@ Kate Torres:
Did you see that? Truly tragic...

Now I'm just confused. Is this actually Sellers or someone else? 😕

They aren't idiots; they just write for the masses, so of course Jack Sparrow ends up on the list. If you want to read something actually serious, pick up the legendary Sight & Sound or maybe Sight & Sound.
