Which part of this is actually difficult to wrap your head around??
Back in the day, before we moved away from animal sacrifices, people would drink the blood and eat the meat of the creature being offered up (which, let's hope, was just an animal)
The whole idea was that through the act of sacrifice, that flesh and blood became sanctified, bringing a divine blessing to whoever consumed it
🙂
Jesus essentially abolished that practice by shifting the entire concept to a spiritual level through wine and the host—acting as a ritual to receive blessings through consecration, which we now refer to as his body and blood
And now, just because someone decided to ask a question, what are we supposed to do??
Ban rowdyhawk10? Outlaw Islam on the forum? Ban everything except Christianity??...
Or, we could try something else that actually seems useful: we could clean up the religion subreddits by removing anyone who isn't capable of civilized communication, regardless of what denomination they follow, and leave actual space for people who are genuinely interested in interfaith dialogue and actually want to learn something from "the other side"
Well, there you go. Unstable has answered you, so I won't repeat myself. 🙂
Jesus ended that sacrifice and moved it to a spiritual level in the form of wine and the host, as a way to receive blessing through sanctification—which today we call His blood and His body.
Canon 8. Who claims that Christ, given in the Eucharist, is received only spiritually and not sacramentally and truly, let them be punished by anathema. (DH 1658)

So now, just because someone asked a question, what exactly should be done??
Ban rowdyhawk10? Ban Islam on the forum? Ban everything except Christianity??
...
The problem isn't that someone asks a question; the problem arises when the question
is framed in such a way that the opening post already sets out guidelines on how a Christian is supposed to answer. You can read it right there in the quoted text.
Then a Christian is left to give an answer, only to be provoked because that answer doesn't fit within the boundaries set by the original post. Unfortunately, it only hit me afterward. That's just my take.
What are you talking about, hollowtrucker77? Where are you getting these ideas about banning rowdyhawk10, banning Islam on the forum, and
banning everything except Christianity??? Do you really think I'm that kind of person??? I have nothing against rowdyhawk10 personally, nor against Islam, and I'm not some religious fanatic. I care about truth, cooperation, and meaningful dialogue, not bickering and harassment. There’s a limit to what I can put up with.
rowdyhawk10 said:Can I answer this as a Christian, but in a way that he can understand that this isn't about a real conversion, And then, once the topic develops a bit, I'll send this link to that acquaintance so they can see what you all are saying and hopefully change their views? I don't know any other way to steer them away, and I can see they are mistaken. It would mean a lot to me, so please, weigh in.
Something that should presumably serve the purpose of steering that Christian away from a "wrong belief regarding the conversion"
based on some different "truths" that someone (anyone, generally speaking) might hold.
The word "signified" should have been changed to "their positions." As it stands, it goes against a believer's Christian responsibility before God and the KC canon—specifically, the duty not to write things about the Conversion that simply aren't true. When it comes to this, the KC canon is crystal clear.
Bold, what kind of conversion are we even talking about here if it isn't... For real? Unbelievable.
Canon 1. Anyone who denies that the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist truly, really, and substantially contains the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, together with His soul and divinity—claiming instead that Christ is present only as a sign, an image, or through His power—let them be condemned with an anathema. (DH 1651)
Canon 2. Anyone who claims that the substance of bread and wine remains alongside the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ during the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist—denying that miraculous and singular transformation where the entire substance of the bread becomes His Body and the entire substance of the wine becomes His Blood, while only the outward appearance remains—let them be condemned with anathema. (DH 1652)
Or, we could try something else. Something that actually feels useful. We could just clean up the religion PDF by removing everyone who can't communicate like a civilized human being—doesn't matter what denomination they follow. That way, we leave actual space for people who genuinely want to engage in interfaith dialogue and have a real desire to learn from the "other side."
I’m in. Go ahead and scrub my account first, because based on these "guidelines" for how to handle questions about Catholic theology, I probably won't be able to communicate "civilly" enough for you people.
So many people have moved on from this place, including those from "the other side" who taught me so much during my time here. Some have even circled back to the digital archives. I’m just grateful for everything I've experienced. I suppose there's a lesson in all of this that I need to find. To step back, to create some distance... that's exactly what Jesus Christ did. And yet, He remains my Rabbi. 🙂 I’m no Alice in Wonderland, though I definitely feel like I’m tripping through the looking glass every once in a while.
That's one way it could look. 😁
2 Timothy 4:3-4 says: "For a time will come when people won't be able to stand sound teaching. Instead, they'll gather teachers to suit their own desires, listening to what makes their ears itch, turning away from the truth and heading straight for myths."
For rowdyhawk10
I want to publicly apologize if it felt like I was trying to discredit you or take personal shots at you. That wasn't my intention at all.
I really hate it when you keep projecting things onto me like that. I don't know what hatred feels like, and I honestly don't hate anyone. I truly hope it stays that way for the rest of my life. As for everything you think was meant to be ugly—all those moments where you felt I was trying to be malicious or intentionally trying to belittle and disrespect you personally—well, I’m taking all those words back. Instead, I'm replacing them with God's blessings.
My intentions when I started writing on this PDF were simple: to foster an open heart, to draw closer through faith for the greater good, and to encourage genuine cooperation.
No doubts or insinuations here. I just didn't get the same answer I was looking for, and honestly, that stings a little. But whatever, it doesn't matter. We all need it anyway.
A change of heart. A person spends their whole life learning, only to die again, realizing they didn't truly know anything at all.
I've decided to make some changes in my life, so I’m starting with this request for forgiveness. Based on what you've said, I know I've hurt you more than anyone else. I don't hold anything against you—it's not like I actually know you as a person in real life, anyway. I have an issue with your writing style and how you approach Christianity. I sent you a few private messages about this long before any of this bolded stuff happened. I really hope you can accept my apology, because I truly mean it from the bottom of my heart. My temperament is just... intense. It’s part of who I am, much like how St. Jerome used to say, "Forgive me, God, for I am a Southerner."
With the caveat that I'm far from perfect—certainly not some kind of saint.
P.S. Believe it or not, I wasn't trying to exploit this thread—or Epignosis, for that matter—like you're suggesting.
(I probably should have written more than I actually did, though you calculated that as only being 10% of the total text). I’m sticking with what I’ve already put down.
I didn't really feel like starting another thread just to point out that error regarding how responses were "directed," which you clearly
didn't catch when you started your own topic about the conversion of that Christian. This is really about the moderators—they should have caught it, but they didn't.
Whether that makes someone an atheist or not isn't my business; everyone is entitled to their own path. We're all just people. That’s why I posted here instead of coming after you personally, which is how I often get labeled.
Best to everyone. 🙂
