How to speed up beard and mustache growth? in Health ·
If only my beard grew at a slower pace. Since I shave twice a day, I end up having to shave twice...
I don't have any other symptoms. Honestly, I’m a bit skeptical about the results since my sister had such a hard time getting even a basic blood draw done at that clinic after four attempts. Plus, her glucose levels were perfectly fine every single year leading up to this, so I’m not overly worried. We’ll just have to see what my sugar levels look like next year 😁. If they come back too low then, I'll definitely seek a second opinion
.
Thanks for clearing that up 👍

So, I undergo a routine wellness checkup at work every single year... and up until now, my blood work has always been fine, aside from some slightly elevated triglycerides (2.1) and high uric acid—though, to be fair, everyone in my family deals with that.
But this year, my glucose came back low, at 3.66.
In previous years, we went to the Mayo Clinic where the doctor took the time to explain everything clearly, but this time we used a different clinic where the internist barely said more than a couple of words before dismissing us.
Should I be concerned about this low blood sugar level?
Flu symptoms in Health ·
Do asthma patients have a right to free vaccinations? I catch the flu quite often, so I certainly should, yet last year my doctor refused to vaccinate me, claiming I wasn't eligible for the free program. It wasn't a matter of money for me, but I simply refuse to be treated like I don't know my own health status. So, I went straight to the local Health Institute instead, and they vaccinated me without any issues—they didn't even ask for paperwork proving my asthma diagnosis.

Hospital visitation bans in Health ·
shadownomad43 said:You clearly haven't spent much time in a hospital... Because if you had, you'd probably know that next to almost every bed, usually right above the pillow, there’s some kind of switch or call button cable.
See, when you press that switch, an alarm goes off for the entire unit. There’s no way the nurse on duty doesn't hear that ringing...
...and they won't miss which room it's coming from, because there’s usually a light above the door that flashes to signal exactly which patient pressed the button to call for help...

If you’ve been in the hospital as many times as you claim, hasn't there ever been a moment where you forgot to bring something with you? Don't your family members just bring those things when they come to visit?
I was only hospitalized once when I had pneumonia, and I completely forgot to bring my face cream, even though my skin gets incredibly dry. I could barely wait until the second day for my family to visit and bring it to me, because my face felt so tight and uncomfortable. Or was I supposed to send a nurse to the pharmacy?

melloworca6 said:I think rustymason82 is getting you all mixed up with this idea about grabbing sedatives and antidepressants without a prescription. It’s just not happening. You aren't getting those without a script, period. These drugs are heavily monitored because the tranquilizers are straight-up addictive. Honestly, I don't think anyone is stupid enough to risk their entire career just to score a single box on the black market.

Fair point, I did get mixed up. In my local pharmacy, I could never pick up hydrogen peroxide without a script, yet at another shop across town, they sell it without any issues at all. (In my line of work, small cuts from water exposure don't heal easily, so I need it.) I even picked up some Hypermangan recently without a hitch. The only thing is, you'll never find Bivacyn being sold without a black-market prescription.
Maybe try asking about the Hypermangan (if that's what you actually need?) at a different pharmacy if your usual one won't help you out. As for iodine, why not check with a local vet clinic?

Emily Williams28 said:The main issue is that people on this forum were claiming you could grab 10g of Hypermangan at a local pharmacy for just 6-$... uh... $2.25... well, you know...

I'm worried the prices at Hospitality are going to be insane, but I'll give it a shot... thanks. 🙂

I can share my experience regarding Savannah, though I can't speak for Portland.
I had no trouble picking up some Hypermangan at any local pharmacy. They wouldn't sell me Hydrogen peroxide without a prescription at my neighborhood drugstore, but over at the main city pharmacy near the metropolitan health center, they sold it to me without asking for anything. As for Bivacyn ointment, nobody is willing to touch that without a black prescription.
Is it even possible to get the specific medications you're looking for without a prescription?

My diagnosis wasn't some one-off guess—it was confirmed over and over. I spent more time in hospital beds than I did in my own house. I’ve spent countless nights choking on my own cough. I could go on forever about everything I did to try and kick this thing, because believe me, nothing about this happened by accident.
I’m not interested in debating whether doctors are geniuses or idiots. I can agree that most of the time, asthma is a lifelong struggle, but I'm damn sure it's not a universal rule.
At the end of the day, keep doubting whatever you want. My recovery matters way more to me than your skepticism.

You can talk about how you "cured" yourself, but maybe take that conversation to an alternative forum instead of this one.

Jamie Rivera78 said:Look, I haven't touched a single pill in 30 years. Zero symptoms. I run, I hike, I live my life without any freaking restrictions. And you're still standing there telling me I haven't cured myself? Please.

I really have nothing to argue about with you. Asthma is essentially incurable. Unless, of course, you're some kind of medical phenomenon?
Given how diagnostic tools worked 30 years ago, I would actually be more inclined to wonder if you even had asthma to begin with, or if someone simply misdiagnosed you.
Unless you happen to know more than all the doctors combined? Because they are quite clear on one thing: asthma is a chronic condition that cannot be cured.

Jamie Rivera78 said:I'm pretty sure that's total BS. I had a brutal case of asthma from day one—spent more time in the hospital than I care to admit. But then, around age seven, things started chilling out. Even those miserable allergies just vanished. I haven't dealt with a single symptom or touched a single inhaler in over 30 years.

If you start Googling everything, you'll never feel certain again.
Asthma can be managed—whether through medication or simply because your body learns how to adapt and live with it—but it cannot be cured. We can certainly keep the symptoms under control, but a permanent cure? Is that even possible?

Andrew Peterson2 said:I’ve been sitting here chewing on a pretty heavy question, just wondering...
What’s the actual life expectancy for people with Asthma? Like, how long do we usually last—and I’m talking about those of us who have been dealing with this since we were kids. I heard about someone once—didn't know them personally, obviously—who passed away in their 40s. They had asthma, but they were also carrying a bit of extra weight too...

People don't die from asthma in the 21st century. It was a different story back in the 19th century or earlier, before modern treatments even existed. Today, you live *with* asthma rather than dying from it. Since we now have such an incredible array of effective medications, the real variable isn't lifespan—it's quality of life. Doesn't it all come down to how well you manage the condition?
Asthma Management in Health ·
Jamie Rivera78 said:Honestly, the better question is whether Asthma can even be cured or if we're just stuck with it forever.

No, asthma isn't curable. There is simply no magic pill we can take to make it vanish overnight. It is a chronic condition that stays with you for life, but if you manage it properly with medication, can't it be kept under control so it doesn't impact your quality of life?

silentbison17 said:Hello. Writing this on behalf of my child, haha. 🙂 She’s 3 years old and has allergic asthma.

Things are rough right now. Her spirometry results were catastrophic. We’ve started her on Seretide, hoping for some actual improvement...

My question is for those of you who have dealt with this your whole lives: how much does it actually impact your quality of life? My daughter is incredibly coordinated for her age—she can grab onto anything and move with such ease. It makes me wonder... will she ever be able to play sports?

When she gets congested at the park and starts coughing heavily, I give her water if she needs it, then administer Ventolin so she can keep going. Am I doing the right thing? She handles everything quite well, even when things get terrible—the coughing, the overall state...

I truly believe that Seretide will make a difference, but if it doesn't? Well, there's always the option of adding other medications to the regimen. Currently, I'm managing with a combination of Seretide and Monkast—those tablets that help prevent the airways from tightening up due to allergic reactions. Wouldn't it be better to have those extra layers of protection ready just in case?
I was diagnosed with asthma relatively late in life, around age 25, yet today it hardly impacts my quality of life at all. For me, symptoms only seem to flare up during the winter months. This week, however, I came down with bronchitis, which naturally triggered an asthma flare-up as well. After struggling with a terrible cough, I had to visit the local community health center's urgent care yesterday. They administered a Medrol injection, and after taking another dose of Medrol today, I am already feeling almost completely back to normal. Isn't it remarkable how quickly things can turn around?
Your child will learn how to live with asthma, and I truly believe it won't significantly impact their quality of life. As for me, my pulmonologist advised me to avoid sudden temperature shifts, humidity, and steam. Since I work as a chef, I'm constantly exposed to all of that—but why on earth would I even consider changing careers?
Pharmacy recommendations? in Health ·
Yesterday, I stopped by my local pharmacy hoping to pick up a single sterile needle to deal with a hangnail.
Apparently, they told me they only sell them in packs of 100, acting as if they were running some tiny rural drugstore where they refuse to break open a package to sell just one. It’s quite funny, though, because I went to a pharmacy in Cleveland today and picked up a small pack of five without any hassle at all.
From a medical standpoint, does it really make sense that you can't just buy a single sterile needle when you need one? If I had known the entire bulk pack was such a bargain, I would have grabbed it, but they didn't mention the full set was only about $0.20 to $0.30; I assumed individual needles would be much more expensive. What am I supposed to do if I urgently need a needle and they won't sell them individually? Am I expected to share a needle with a stranger? Even if they won't sell a partial pack, wouldn't it be easy to just write off the cost of one missing needle as a business expense rather than wasting the whole thing? $3.75 If they threw away a whole pack just because one needle was missing, it wouldn't even dent their bottom line.

Sandra Brown18 said:John, I already mentioned over in the Tourism subforum that I’m on vacation (plus Air Canada was temporarily grounded), and since my moderation tools are limited while using Tapatalk, I can't issue a ban right this second. I asked for some patience, but apparently, that wasn't enough for you.
Actually, the Tourism PDF is our most active section and rarely has issues; the members know I always step up and fulfill my duties once I explain why I can't react instantly.

I would have been happy to wait if they had just stayed focused on insulting another member, but today they turned their insults toward me as well. Since there were two separate instances of harassment, I felt compelled to report it here.

I am perfectly satisfied with how you moderate and have zero complaints about your work, so please don't take this report personally. I simply reported the situation because they took advantage of your absence to continue the verbal abuse.

Yesterday, a user was insulting another female member here. The moderator claimed they "can't issue a penalty because they're on vacation"
Today, that exact same user is insulting me.

How much longer will we tolerate users attacking one another like this?
Is the moderator refusing to take action because they're on vacation, or is it simply because they don't want to—perhaps since they're a landlord just like him?
As far as I know, the tourism board has two moderators; where is the second one if the first is away on vacation?

In no way do I view this post as an insult to you or any other member of this forum.

To me, it feels more like trolling, especially since he hasn't made a single thoughtful contribution on the subject using his own brain.
Given that I’m a regular here and Thomas keeps rambling about nonsense, I took it as a bit of a slight.
But fine, perhaps I just missed the joke. 🙂
Then again, there's no winning with me; I feel insulted the moment someone lumps me together with that lady in a single post.😁

I’m actually quite happy with how the moderators handle the Food & Dining section, but I truly believe this particular post is out of place there. Beyond that, it feels like a direct insult to both me and another member. I’ve already flagged it, yet I haven't seen any action from the mods:
