Sex is fine, but my OBGYN says no?! in Women's Health ·
Carol Scott98 said:So, her big excuse is basically: "if my mom, aunt, grandma, or neighbor—honestly, I have no idea who we're talking about—didn't go before she hit 40, then I don't need to either."

This is why cervical cancer is one of the leading killers in the US😁
Just imagine, you have the one regular screening tool available—the Pap smear—which means you could catch everything early and actually deal with it.

If other medical fields had something similar, things might be different. Oncologists wouldn't always be finding cancer when it's already too late. But I guess it all comes down to how often a patient actually shows up. You can't force anyone to take care of themselves.

Exactly. Every attempt at introducing sex ed fails as long as we... I won't go any further, since that would probably violate the site policy.😁

My mother wouldn't, though. She's a medical professional and always steered my education in that direction, and not just regarding OB-GYNs. I used to go to her with gynecological concerns rather than my friends, who wouldn't have had a clue what to do anyway.

I completely agree. If you're going to take risks with sexual encounters, you have to accept the consequences—that means taking responsibility for your sexual health and making regular appointments with a doctor. People who actually value their own wellbeing will go regularly, but those who don't? I guess they become a risk to everyone else, including any future partners or even current ones. Not trying to be preachy here, but if we accept the fact that young people in the 21st century are pretty promiscuous and don't use protection enough—all while skipping the clinic—it’s probably no surprise that STI rates are what they are right now.
Vaginal health issues – any advice? in Women's Health ·
I'm not sure... I found this on a forum, maybe ask a doctor, www.webmd.com:

I'm 29, in a long-term relationship, and I've been dealing with this for a year now. Basically, during intercourse—specifically at the start of penetration—there's tearing right at the opening. It hurts so much that I just have to stop. I've seen two gynecologists and they both give me the same answer: it'll pass. But it isn't passing. My doctor suggested using Linel Fett cream, which I have tried, but it doesn't help. I use lubricant every single time because I thought maybe it was dryness, but nothing works. Every single time there's a tear, leaving a small wound that usually leads to an infection. I've been using Geonistin suppositories and now I've started Medazol ones too... I'm feeling pretty hopeless because this is really affecting my sex life and my relationship in general. Please, if anyone has advice... Thanks in advance.

Re: I don't know what to do!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I understand, but here is what I think—it involves a persistent thin layer of skin that keeps tearing. Unfortunately, I see this relatively often in young women, so you aren't the first. It’s hard to fix simply, but there are a few things to consider:
- taking monophasic oral contraceptives can increase the tendency to tear due to the low hormone dose and the resulting thinning of the skin
- it will most likely resolve after your first childbirth (I know that's not much comfort, but it's a fact),
- the lubricant you're using should help quite a bit
- if the issue is very pronounced, there is a possibility it could be treated surgically (or with a laser); however, I should mention that it could potentially recur in the same spot. I would need to examine you first to provide a more specific prognosis.

Breast lumps and pain: What should I know? in Women's Health ·
My oncologist suggested using evening primrose oil after seeing the fibrocystic changes on my ultrasound, though I haven't actually tried it yet.😁

I have fibrocystic breast changes in my left breast, but I rarely feel any pain.
What exactly counts as proper feminine hygiene? in Women's Health ·
We used stuff like that way before all these "always" brands and whatever became a thing.😁, just basic cotton and mesh—old school style, I guess.

I mean, why wouldn't they be considered natural? I use tampons, both during the day and at night—though I always switch to a pad overnight.
Pubic hair removal advice? in Women's Health ·
Honestly, it’s ridiculous. She’ll just tell you it’s a massive infection and insist you rush into her office immediately.🤣

Maybe try asking a specialist oncologist instead.

Though, based on what you're saying, it sounds like a yeast infection. Just grab some Monistat or Clotrimazole at a CVS and apply it to the area.

Has anyone here tried ozone therapy? in Health ·
A user mentioned some idea about bags filled with an ozone and oxygen mix supposedly curing all sorts of ailments.

I've been looking up ozone therapy online. There are plenty of different theories out there, and I guess acceptance of the method varies wildly depending on where you look.

I'm mostly just looking for actual experiences from people who have gone through this treatment. It doesn't really matter what the specific condition was, since I don't personally know anyone who has tried it.
Memory issues? in Health ·
I’m actually the exact opposite. I can recall specific dates, what someone was wearing, and little details that probably nobody else even remembers. My memory for events is pretty intense. Sometimes I don't even know what to do with these memories; some are totally trivial and involve nothing significant at all. But occasionally, that black hole you guys are talking about does happen, though it's rare.

Maybe you just lack interest, because I notice I don't remember things that weren't interesting or important to me, or times when I was completely zoned out.

Regarding studying, my university was extremely difficult. We studied exam by exam—I'm not sure how it works now with the current credit system—because there were very few exams per year, maybe around seven, but they were all incredibly massive.

I always studied in great detail, trying to actually understand everything, but on the day of the exam, I’d hit a total mental block. The only way I could break through was through rapid-fire reviewing of the entire curriculum right before the test. Basically, I’d grab the textbook and skim through it quickly, paying extra attention to headings and "scanning" the text; that’s usually when everything would come back to me. Otherwise, I always used the same highlighting system: green for the most important stuff, pink for less important, and if it wasn't important, I wouldn't highlight it at all, or just use a pencil or yellow marker. With such massive amounts of material, repetition is key. You have to go over it multiple times. That's how you memorize everything, even how a page looks. It isn't unusual to be asked a question and see exactly where the answer is located in the book—sort of like photographic memory.

I’m not one of those people who hates reviewing before an exam. If anything, I think repetition is vital; it’s what guaranteed my high grades. Without it, it feels like I never studied at all, even though I definitely did. So, maybe try putting in the effort to review everything before the test. It doesn't mean you have to re-read everything from scratch—you don't need to since you already know it—it's just about summoning that knowledge through quick review, which should help boost or restore your confidence.
So what did she tell Mom? Why is there blood and why are they testing her urine?

I guess elevated white blood cell counts in urine point to inflammation, maybe bacterial. No, it doesn't necessarily have to be a gynecological issue; it could be a bladder infection, kidney issues, or something similar. What was her PAP test result? Has she ever had swabs done at the OB-GYN?

Thick white discharge—if it's cottage cheese-like—could be a Candida yeast infection, especially if there's itching or burning. Then again, it might just be normal discharge, since some women always have more than others. It could also be bacterial vaginosis if there's an unpleasant odor.

Unfortunately, nobody here can say for sure what it means. Maybe her primary care doctor should look at the results and write a referral to a specialist.

aaa, I guess that’s why you're so trippy 😁
Old school techno in Music ·
So, basically 🤣

I actually tried to be polite in my reply, unlike the person I was responding to... didn't want to seem like I was looking for a fight like most people on this board. I just asked for more info regarding the origins in Detroit, since that's stuff the older generation—which Gregory Harris8 clearly represents—would actually know about. But now they think they're experts, trying to lecture me on subgenres of Techno music like we haven't heard of them before.

Thanks, but I'm well aware of how things evolved from the 90s onward.

In my opinion, the real debate is what qualifies as Detroit techno versus house 🙄 back in the 80s. I guess myrza made a good point that those two were leaning more towards house than techno.

Gregory Harris8 said:Jesus, someone's trying to act smart again without actually knowing anything...

Well, I'm not really acting smart; I'm just stating what I remember.

Yeah, yeah, I am actually talking about Detroit house—music tied to the Warehouse club. That’s what I meant when I said it was the precursor to house, not early Detroit techno. Honestly, I don't even know much about that (probably going to get an answer like "well, it shows"😁). I guess I didn't realize there was such a thing as early Detroit techno distinct from Detroit house; I thought they were the same thing.😳🙈

But, I do know acid house started in Detroit.

If we had been "taught" things as clearly as you wrote them here back then, everything would be a lot clearer.🙂

I mean, back in the 90s, when shows like Top DJ Mag or DJ Is So Hot were explaining the origins of techno, if I recall correctly, they always talked about the Warehouse and what was obviously Detroit house. We all know that music eventually migrated from Detroit to Europe. I'm a 90s kid, and I listened to what was generally called rave.
Also, if my info regarding Ron Hardy is wrong, feel free to correct me, and I sincerely apologize for that.

Back then, when I was listening to Inner City, I was only 11 or 12, so it's entirely possible that incorrect info was floating around or, more likely, that I just remembered it wrong. I remember Atkins produced one or more of their tracks—that's how I recall it, unless that was also wrong, which seems likely. I didn't know he never actually embraced that specific sound.
Anyway, in the late 80s, besides pop, I wanted to be the cool kid, so I listened to what was called acid house—S-Express, Bomb the Bass, Coldcut, Timelords/The Jams (later KLF). I assume that kind of music grew out of those acid house roots in Detroit (expecting a correction here😁)
Regardless, I'm a 90s generation kid, so I'll leave the later 80s house and techno stuff to the experts like you. 😉

Come on, write more about this, it's actually pretty interesting!

In general, I'd be embarrassed if I didn't know something and was just bluffing on the forum, but this 🤷, well, I'm not a DJ, so I shouldn't be expected to know all this in my sleep.😬

northerntrucker85, I guess your idea about those links isn't exactly brilliant, considering download links are prohibited here.

Anyway, Detroit techno is generally seen as the precursor to house. You have tekno, which is the German version, where Kraftwerk served as the predecessor (though Kraftwerk definitely influenced Detroit techno too).

For me, Atkins and Saunderson were at their best during the Inner City project (Big Fun, Good Life, Set Your Body Free). Saunderson was part of the group while Atkins handled the production.

Then you have Phuture from Chicago, who are considered the first acid house group; their acid tracks basically made Ron Hardy famous.😉

As for homemade mixes, Detroit techno was actually known for being composed of homemade tracks—that's essentially how it all started:

"Midway through the 80s, many Chicago DJs and clubgoers started experimenting with creating their own rhythm tracks. DJs would play these homemade tracks, and (in short) this is how house music was born"

😉

It’s wild seeing how much little Joe has grown up🤣, though everyone else looks pretty much the same,

I actually used to have his poster from Bravura, back during the Hangin' Tough era. I loved the whole band, obviously, but he was always my favorite. Back then, the NKOTB craze hadn't even fully hit the States yet; that didn't really explode until the Step by Step era around 1990. I stumbled upon them by accident, one of the first people to do so, buying the Hangin' Tough record a year early. I was totally hooked on those kids after hearing that madness called Bros 🤣. Tracks like "You Got It," "My Favorite Girl," and "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" still absolutely kick ass😁.

No, that's not right. Betadine is just pure povidone-iodine used for disinfection—basically just iodine. This is an antibiotic, a medication 😉

Of course it hurts when there's that much pus—my cyst is inflamed and I need to apply some Betrion to the area. For me, these things flare up regardless of whether I'm on birth control or not; I've dealt with them both while taking pills and after stopping, so I don't think they're linked. And no, you definitely shouldn't try to squeeze them out—that's just asking for trouble. What I do is prick it with a sterile needle to let it drain, then apply the Betrion, and it usually clears up within two days without any issues.
