The black-and-white version is hands down superior! 😉 Honestly, I’m completely stumped as to why they even bothered releasing a color version in the first place. Don't get me wrong, the movie is an absolute masterpiece... for the most part, anyway. I wouldn't go so far as to call it boring, but there are definitely moments where the pacing feels just a little bit hollow... 😉
I have to come clean here—I haven’t actually sat down to watch the original version... and honestly? I found the movie to be just okay. It’s not that the plot is bad; there isn't really anything missing from the storytelling itself, but it just felt... mediocre to me. 😉 Plus, I’ve gotta say, I am getting pretty tired of Denzel Washington lately...
Well, there we go—everything is finally sorted out! 🙂 This space really shouldn't be used for anything other than music, and honestly, I owe everyone an apology if I came off a bit too intense or "intoxicated" by my own enthusiasm during our last chat! 😉
I have a deep appreciation for the visual design of a film, though I suppose I’m just as fond of the narrative itself... if that makes any sense! But honestly? It drives me absolutely up the wall when they rely on those CGI characters that look completely artificial and fake! 👎
Alright, alright... I see this discussion has spiraled a bit out of control... 😲 Let’s try to settle a few things once and for all! Now, look, I have immense respect for Björk as a musician (even back during her days with The Sugarcubes!), and more than anything, she’s just a lovely person. With a voice like hers, in my humble opinion, she could get away with any kind of musical experimentation—she could practically set the beat to a ringing telephone book and it would still sound good! Right? Right! Moving on... as for her acting, I still maintain that she isn't much of an actress, even when she's tackling something as warm, emotional, and profoundly tragic as a film by Mr. Lars von Trier! And him? As a director, I absolutely loathe him... especially after hearing that ridiculous anecdote involving a donkey—which, if you ask me, makes him a total idiot! 😉 That being said, "Breaking the Waves" is actually an outstanding film! 😉 There you have it! 🙂
Oh, and one more thing! Someone mentioned some awards regarding his film... well, if awards were ever a true measure of cinematic quality, then, once again, in my personal view, I’d probably have a Titanic poster hanging on my wall! 😉 So, there's my two cents...
brighttinker19 said:Good grief, we’ve gone from basic associations straight to Lars von Trier and then somehow spiraled into an Apocalypse... there is absolutely no sense in pivoting this whole discussion toward films.🙂)
My apologies, Noah Watson4, but tell me—does everything in your world have to align perfectly with some rigid set of moral principles? Is that how you operate? By the way, those "principles" are usually just things forced upon us by the masses... Are you going to condemn every ancient tribe out there that possesses a spiritual depth far beyond our own miserable, capitalist souls?!
If people actually started applying those high-minded principles to anything remotely useful, half the major world leaders (or dictators, if we're being honest) would already be behind bars.
I mean, hello? Seriously, helloooo???
Anyway, Björk is queen. 😁
Look, I am naturally the least judgmental person you'll ever meet. 😉 But no, of course I don't despise those tribes, and sure, it’s wonderful that they are spiritually—or whatever else you want to call it—superior to us... but even those same people kill or mistreat animals for sex or just to make a film! 😉
Keith Jones19 said:It wasn't even physical violence per se, he just executed him right there in front of the cameras. It’s kind of like Coppola in Apocalypse Now. Do you remember that film? Or is that just another one of those messy scenes...
Whoa! 😲 😲 😲 That idiot killed a donkey!!!! Total disaster! And yeah, I definitely remember Apocalypse Now—it's actually one of my all-time favorites. I even have it sitting right there in my DVD collection at home. Seriously, that director's scene is just as brutal... 😢
The film by Enka Bilal—though I honestly know him more as a legendary comic book artist from the Midwest... It feels like some weird mashup of The Fifth Element and The Terminator, except it’s nowhere near as good as either of those. You’ve got a handful of actors, but most of it is just shot against blue screens with CGI characters and environments thrown in later. It’s giving me major Final Fantasy vibes, or maybe something like Lord of the Sky... or whatever that other recent mess with Julia and Law was called. 🤔 Now, look... I’m not exactly a die-hard fan of that hyper-digital aesthetic, but Immortal actually features some incredibly well-designed locations where the story unfolds... you see the buildings, the vehicles, all that stuff. But there is one massive flaw in this movie—and it’s honestly just frustrating because it looks so cheap and fake—it’s the animated characters! 👎 Total flop. On the bright side, though, if you're just listening to the dialogue, it's actually a really solid film!
brighttinker19 said:Do you actually have any arguments to back up that "firm" stance of yours that you'd be willing to share with the rest of us?
Well, I suppose I shall elaborate on one particular point—though, admittedly, it's a somewhat shaky argument, which is why I felt the need to write my previous post in the first place. I heard through the grapevine—hence my hesitation regarding its certainty—that the director was physically abusive toward an animal. Specifically, a donkey! 😉 There! Is that sufficient? Or were we all just sitting around waiting for someone to analyze Björk's acting performance instead? 🤔
hiddencyclist2 said:She's a total madman!!!! And honestly, she’s a great actress too. Have you guys seen Black Swan? That film is absolutely terrifying.😛
Uh, I wouldn't go that far regarding her acting chops! 👎 I'd say she should just stick to singing, because let's be real—Lars von Trier is just some jerk with his movies... and the way he treats those poor animals! 😲
brighttinker19 said:I don't even follow what you mean by "shitting all over it"...
Look, just give me some actual arguments—give me something concrete to chew on regarding why this concept supposedly transcends emotion so I can actually sit down and re-evaluate my own stance...
Because, honestly, her music feels like one unending, torrential river of pure emotion...
A river of emotion... wow. How on earth did I not think of that brilliant metaphor myself!? 🤔

Hmm... well, I watched Savior and I actually quite enjoyed it! 🙂 Now... word on the street is that Savior is incomparably worse... but then again, you can never have enough horror, especially when it's coming straight out of a home workshop, so... yeah, I'll probably head to the cinema long after the fine dead girl finishes its run at the local diner! 🙂
redowl90 said:Look, personally, I find Angel City more compelling, even if I realize it follows that standard Hollywood blockbuster template where everything is laid out clearly from start to finish, usually wrapping up with some sort of pathetic, underwhelming ending... And don't even get me started on Nicolas Cage's "g L u m i"...
That said, Wenders' dialogue was tough going (at least for me), so I really had to buckle down and fully immerse myself just to grasp what was being communicated in certain moments... Plus, some of those conversations feel way too long and overly philosophical (if my memory serves me right)...
Oh, come on... that's just Wenders for you! 😉 Plenty of people lost their minds over stuff like that in movies like Paris, Texas... honestly! 😉
Alright then... for those of you who don't exactly vibe with Wenders, you’ve got a pathetic little remake called "Angel City" starring a subpar Nicolas Cage and that sweetheart Meg Ryan! 😉 Honestly, the remake is just—it's total garbage.
