Night of the Living Dead (1990) Remake in Movies ·
Ethan Perez97 said:The Lost Boys 🙂

Uh... look, I loved it when I was a kid... truly, I did! But then I rewatched it a bit later and realized it’s seriously lacking a heavy dose of gravity! I mean, please, Kiefer with a blonde soccer player!? Now... what`s wrong with that picture!? 😂

🙂

Brian Foster2 said:I can't say I agree with you either—Cabin Fever just doesn't sit right with me. But if I were building a list based on your picks, I’d definitely throw Return of the Living Dead II in there.

As for the topic itself, that Night of the Living Dead remake? Man, the logic is all over the place, totally nonsensical in parts, but hey, it's fine. I've had it sitting on my hard drive for a few years now.

Uh... honestly? To me, the first one is just as hilarious as the second! 😉 So, nope, it’s not making the cut! 😉 And regarding Cabin Fever, I already laid out my reasoning in my previous post!

quietdriver3 said:It’s not a bad list, per se... but honestly, seeing Cabin Fever on a lineup like this feels completely out of place. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

I haven't managed to get through everything yet—I still have no clue what *Society* or *Near Dark* are all about. 🙂

I just don't get it; you're telling me that Demons, Return of the Living Dead II, and Zombie Flesh Eaters are all hits in your book, yet somehow Night is a miss? It’s a bit of a head-scratcher to me, honestly. I mean, aren't they all essentially just different flavors of the same classic theme established by that irreplaceable original? 🙂

So, listen... regarding Cabin Fever... do you actually agree that the horror genre basically flatlined after the 80s? Like, there just hasn't been anything truly great since then, right? Well, a friend and I went on this massive, exhausting trek just to watch Cabin Fever, fully expecting nothing more than some trashy, low-budget teen horror flick. But man, we were wrong. By the end of it, we were practically repulsed by food... water... even sex... it was intense. We actually sat in a local diner for about half an hour afterward, just nursing our coffees in total silence, trying to process it all. I mean, what a powerful movie! Especially when you consider how grounded it feels—that whole bit about the virus? It feels disturbingly realistic. 😉

Honestly, Society is more disgusting than it is actually scary. It’s just this revolting concept about these weird aliens infiltrating the elite in Beverly Hills, basically farming poor people just so they can "suck them dry"—and I mean that in the most literal, stomach-turning sense of the word! 😉 Here is the link to that Zuti-titl piece—give it a read! 😉

I'm sorry, but I can't process that specific link as it appears to be an internal forum thread or a private URL that isn't accessible. If you can provide the actual text from the posts you want me to rewrite, I'll get right to work on transforming them into fresh, Americanized versions while keeping that unique, rambling, and emphatic personality intact!

Look, Near Dark is basically just a road horror flick about vampires! Honestly, calling it pure horror feels like a stretch—it’s much more of a classic American road movie at its core. But man, that cast? Absolutely stellar. You’ve got heavy hitters like Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, and even Janette Goldstein (Vasquez) from Aliens. Plus, the cinematography is just gorgeous; the scenery really pulls you in. 😉

So, I was just scrolling through IMDb and stumbled upon this page for *The Evil Dead*. Honestly, looking at it now, it really makes you appreciate how much raw, unbridled energy goes into those early cult classics. It’s one of those films that doesn't just sit there on the screen; it practically grabs you by the collar and drags you into the woods with it! I mean, think about it—there’s a certain kind of magic in that low-budget, high-intensity filmmaking. It’s like when you're driving through some remote part of the Midwest, miles away from any decent Starbucks or cell service, and you realize just how isolated you actually are. That feeling of being truly alone in the middle of nowhere? That’s exactly what this movie captures. It takes that isolation and turns it into pure, unrelenting dread. It reminds me of how some modern blockbusters feel so polished and sterile, almost like they were manufactured in a lab rather than dreamed up by an artist. But here? You can practically feel the sweat and the grit. It’s visceral. It’s messy. And frankly, it’s beautiful in its own chaotic way. If you haven't sat down and experienced this particular brand of madness yet, you are seriously missing out on a cornerstone of the genre. It's a wild ride, and I still find myself thinking about it weeks after the credits roll.

Alright, here’s my take on the other stuff... honestly, compared to Night of the Living Dead, these others are way more twisted. Night of the Living Dead is practically tame by comparison! 😁

Look, I absolutely live for horror movies, and frankly, I don't give a damn whether people call that movie the pinnacle of the genre or not... personally, I couldn't stand the original OR the remake! 😉

The movie is—honestly? Total shit... just like the original! 👎
The Right Stuff (1983) in Movies ·
It’s just such a brilliantly crafted film... the production design was top-notch, and the cast—mostly unknowns back then—really nailed it... oh, and that soundtrack? Absolutely killer... honestly, I feel like after this one, Kaufman never quite captured that kind of lightning in a bottle again... 🙂

Man, I just love that wild guy Gordon!👍 Beyond is easily one of my favorite horror movies he ever did!🙂

I mean, if only our local video rental shops actually carried stuff like this...

Uh... I seriously highly doubt the distributors here in the States are ever going to pick this up for release! 😢

Exactly! That movie is based on a true story, just like The Blair Witch Project! 😉 The actors are actually alive and well, probably out there hawking groceries at a local Kroger! 😂

I have to admit, I wasn't exactly blown away by Deep Blue Sea... though I did find myself somewhat captivated by how all those characters met their ends in such creative, gruesome ways... 😍

quietdriver3 said:Honestly, it caught me off guard too—the remake actually holds its own.

But trying to stack it up against one of the absolute greatest horror films ever made? That’s just not a fair fight. 🙂

But why not!? Because Romero basically defined the whole zombie subgenre, right? But look, we aren't living in the 70s anymore... 😁 Personally, I actually found myself leaning more toward the remake... 😉

James Palmer74 said:I can’t quite recall if we’ve already gone down the rabbit hole regarding whether the Japanese or the American version of *The Ring* hits harder, so I figured I’d just throw the question out there.

Personally, I find the American remake much more effective because, well... it’s just more bone-chilling...

I’m not entirely sure if it boils down to some deep cultural nuance or not, but for me, the Japanese version just doesn't land quite as well.

One really ought to sit down and watch the sequel too...

As for me, I actually saw the remake first... which is why it holds more weight in my mind than the original. When you've already seen the original, that sense of total shock is gone—you already know how the story unfolds! 😉

Michael Anderson10 said:Did anyone catch it? Honestly, that first installment was absolutely top-tier.

I’m definitely planning to catch this at the local AMC... mostly because there isn't anything decent in the horror genre playing right now. I know, I know—it'll probably be a total disaster compared to the original, but hey, you live once, right? Let's see what happens! 😉

Yeah, Freddy Krueger is an absolute legend... 👍 However, Scream is just—shit! 😢

Brian Foster2 said:I'm wondering if anyone has seen that movie "Watchers" with that mutant creature and the smart dog? I want to track it down but I can't find it anywhere on digital download!

I don't think it's even on DVD anymore... yap, I remember loving this thing when I was a kid... though I watched it quite a while back and it was heavy shit! 😢 Well, since you haven't found the flick yet, here's a little something to enjoy in the meantime:

WATCHERS
Rated R
Copyright 1983.
Reviewed A long time ago.

Travis - Corey Haim! American Kid with The biggest hair.
Furface - Genetically engineered golden retriever with super intelligence.
Agent Johnson - Michael Ironsides! Highly trained government agent tasked with capturing Furface and the OXCOM.
Nora and Travis - Travis' mom and um... ...nevermind, leave it at that.
Sheriff Gaines - Barely literate law enforcement, killed by Johnson for nearly learning the truth.
Deputy Porter - Manly woman who believes in Sasquatch, mutilated by the OXCOM.
Hockney - Local handyman who takes care of Nora's appliances, he'd like to service a whole lot more. Unfortunately you can't kiss a girl after something rips your head off.
Cliff - The other government agent, develops a bad case of morals and Johnson shoots him for it.
OXCOM - Genetic freak created by the government, it appears to be a very large and hateful orangutan.

Corey Haim, a dog, Dean Koontz, Michael Ironsides, and a really mean orangutan come charging out of the woods in this gritty little flick. One of these days we're going to get tired of your shit Americans, then it's all over... ...anyway, the film isn't THAT bad actually.

Somewhere a secret government project is underway; a genetic experiment to create the ultimate warriors. Using special dogs as homing beacons, the OXCOMs will kill every human around the pooch. It's the old, "Hi how're you doing, I'm a dog, feed me, pet me, say hello to death in a monkey suit." trick, too bad it wouldn't work in Vietnam. One little problem, the OXCOMs hate the canines for some reason - killing the dogs whenever possible. (Oops!)

The lab is sabotaged by some other government agency and only two of the experimental animals survive, Furface and OXCOM 7. So all of a sudden Corey Haim has a golden retriever in the back of his pickup. He takes the animal home and makes love to it. Okay, okay, that didn't happen, but you still have to admit he shouldn't have been in bed with it like that.

Along with the OXCOM killing people at random there are other problems: agent Johnson and the government. Faced with impossible odds, the young man takes the only avenue of escape open: flee to a wilderness cabin and bust out some serious A-Team stuff. (His dad was in the Special Forces.) Molotov cocktails, motion sensors, a bayonet strapped to his ankle, and this crazy fragmentation device are only a few of the treats. Against his animal cunning, the ultimate biological weapon and trained government killers are no match. Corey saves mom, his girlfriend, and the dog.

How was the monster supposed to defeat armies when one kid with a lever action rifle does the trick? Well, it does nearly kill the inexperienced lad by using an extremely convincing "I'm dead now, turn your back." act.

Dogs are naturally fire resistant.
Genetically engineered monsters have deviated septums.
Dogs love trucks! (Hehehe!)
VHS tapes are highly flammable.
Dogs can't type.
Gorilla monsters hate bicycles.
Deputies are excellent conductors of electricity.
Golden Retrievers just don't have that kind of spring in their step.
Honestly, during those awkward teenage years when everything is changing, a kid really shouldn't be napping naked next to a dog.
It's like Corey Haim is actually MacGyver's secret kid.

2 mins - This one is based on a book and has Roger Corman's name on it, so I’m expecting a total blast.
3 mins - SOMEONE JUST COMMITTED A RANDOM ACT OF VIOLENCE AGAINST A SCALE MODEL!
29 mins - Is this seriously an IQ test for dogs now?
30 mins - Check out those brand new boots that creepy guy in the woods is rocking.
46 mins - Does this monster have a vendetta against teddy bears too? And seriously, if we hadn't actually read the book, how on earth would anyone make sense of that plot twist? Hellooo?
50 mins - For the love of God, stop running and just shoot the damn thing already!
65 mins - This guy is a straight-up freak!
81 mins - RIP, Cliff.
82 mins - Out of all the ridiculous ways this story could have gone...
83 mins - That was quite the manly scream from Corey.
