The Ghost and the Darkness in Movies ·
This movie is absolute genius! 👍 And, believe it or not, it’s actually based on real events! 😉

just me...
the movie and I...
it's been such a long time...
I seem to find my way back to it every two or three years...
both he and I... we change over time...
it's easily my favorite Wenderson film...

so, what about you all?

How am I?! Well, I'm doing just fine, thanks for asking! 😉 BTW, I absolutely adore Wenders! 😍
That beautiful Miami night in Movies ·

Well, first off, I was absolutely captivated by that black-and-white photography... and the way they shot Miami... all those narrow little alleys... it felt so claustrophobic... just brilliant! 😉 Honestly, even the dialogue wasn't half bad... all things considered, this is one of those rare gems from an American production that actually hits the mark! 👍

Donnie said:I just finished watching it, and honestly, it was a pleasant surprise. Look, I’m no film critic or anything, but the plot felt surprisingly fresh to me—and we don't even need to go into detail about Denzel Washington's performance because, well, he's Denzel.

My only gripe? I really wish they hadn't cast that poor guy to play the rookie; he just didn't have the presence for it. They needed someone a bit more convincing there.

It feels like people have been talking about this movie here for ages, though I must have missed it on the previous lists, so here I am.

Yeah, it's a fantastic film... Definitely one of those gems you keep in your permanent collection! 😎

Yeah, it did.
Lady Gaga... weirdo or not? in Music ·
gentlepuma20 said:Hey, don't start a fight with me! 😁 That’s exactly why I argued that the concept totally swallowed the music whole. To be honest, the songs just didn't hit the mark for me on that record. Well, except for "Where Is the Line"—that track absolutely destroys. But even so, I still have a certain fondness for the album, mostly just because Patton is involved. 😍

BTW, you probably already heard, but that new unknown!! 👍

Thomas Hernandez21 said:😲 😲 😲 You even know who Rahzel is? 😲 😲 😲 I’m genuinely stunned here. 😁 It’s like, almost nobody knows that name these days. 😉

Oh, and by the way, when Rahzel is laying down the beat, you've also got Dokat and Shlomo holding it down too. 😉

Of course I know him! Though, if I'm being honest, I don't really listen to hip-hop... or rap... per se. It's more that I tend to hang out with people who are into that kind of music, so I'll occasionally pick up something decent through them! 👍 Honestly, though, those other two names have totally slipped past me!

Thomas Hernandez21 said:Oh, and I’m not sure if you guys realized this, but there are almost no actual instruments on Medull. They leaned incredibly heavily on beatboxing instead...

Basically, when you listen to the whole album, you won't find a single traditional instrument—everything you're hearing is just human voices! 😉 So, the beat is actually handled by Rahzel (any Hip-hop artist will know exactly what I mean! 😉 ), mixed with a bit of Mike Patton and those soulful male and female American choirs! 🙂

gentlepuma20 said:Eh, I don't know... Medull just feels off to me. The whole concept totally overshadows the actual music.

Look, I hear you... but honestly, no matter how you slice it, this album is one of a kind! 😉 It’s definitely not one of those records you’d blast at a house party—I mean, sure, there are a few tracks that might work 😛 , but it's more of a... well, you know... a deep solo listening experience! 🙂

As for the concept? Man, that's what completely floored me during my first listen! 😉

But hey, like I said, I’m such a huge fan of Lady Gaga that she could basically just read a phone book over a beat and I'd be hooked! 😍 Plus, I’ve always had a soft spot for her Sugar Cubes era

Thomas Hernandez21 said:Has anyone else listened to that Lady Gaga track? It sounds incredibly bizarre to my ears, yet I find myself stuck in this loop where I can't stop playing those two songs I just downloaded 😁

What's your take on her sound?

Personally, I think Lady Gaga is nothing short of a genius! 😍 Granted, she isn't exactly mainstream appeal material for everyone... especially considering some of her more recent albums! But honestly, with a voice like hers, she could probably read the Yellow Pages out loud and make it sound like art! 😛

And one more thing... seriously, why on earth is she married!? 😢 😢
Hellboy in Movies ·
Jose Chase2 said:Awesome. It’s funny how people usually can't stand the movies I'm into.🙂

Well, look, if you're going to say anything kind about absolutely anything—even just mentioning Hellboy—then we are going to get along just fine! 😎

Precisely! You hit the nail right on the head! See!? It's all right there in plain sight... 😎
Jessica Nguyen85 said:😲 With a different actor in the lead, you’d probably end up with something much more akin to Lost in Translation. 😁

I mean, come on... who else could it possibly be?

Woody Allen, let's see here... 😉
Hellboy in Movies ·
Wait, hold on... Hellboy is a comic book, right!? That’s the lens you have to view the movie through! So, even if it feels a bit ridiculous or totally nonsensical at times, you just have to expect those metallic Nazi types... slimy monsters and "one-dimensional" characters tossing out lines that are just slightly too cool for their own good... 😉 Personally, I am absolutely obsessed with comics... I’ve had the chance to dive into some Hellboy issues and really get to know the cast... and, generally speaking, everything that makes the comic "breathe"... 😉 I’d argue that Del Toro did a brilliantly imaginative job translating the comic to the big screen, and—as everyone already knows—by casting Ron Perlman as Hellboy, he truly nailed it! 👍 A lot of people have pointed out that the movie doesn't have nearly as much action as other comic book adaptations out there... but that's because he focused so heavily on giving every single character deep, meaningful development! In my book, it’s one of the better comic book movies ever made... 😉
So, there you have it... I was sitting there yesterday watching Ocean's Twelve... and to put it mildly, I was basically nodding off through those grueling 120 minutes. Good grief, it’s not like the first one blew me away either, but all that massive pile of "heavy hitter" actors... and what a pathetic excuse for a movie! 😲 How is that even possible!? But, whatever... I don't want to get bogged down dissecting that specific flick; I just want to riff on the thing that actually caught my attention... namely, the sheer volume of films... so many stars... I can't shake the feeling that some of them would be vastly, vastly superior if the casting had just gone a different way! What are your thoughts on this? Can you think of a movie that would have been significantly better if a certain actor hadn't been cast in it?

Dammit... I absolutely loathe Wild at Heart because of Cage! 🙂
The Sea Inside in Movies ·
Honestly, I’ve reached my limit lately with all these heavy movies about tragic human fates. Even though there's a bit of humor woven in by how Amenabar directs things, I just don't have the emotional bandwidth right now to sit through Life is a Sea... I have nothing but respect for both the director and Bardem, truly, but the actual story itself is just keeping me at arm's length for the time being. 😉

As for me, personally? Aside from some really interesting cinematography, it was pretty much nothing...
Night of the Living Dead (1990) Remake in Movies ·

Night of the Living Dead (1990) Remake in Movies ·
casualotter21 said:I honestly think that explains perfectly why you all found the horror elements so terrible.😬

On the contrary... if you actually bother to read what I’m saying... we absolutely loved the movie!😉 Well, we saw it on the big screen ourselves, so I’ll take a higher rating than you any day!😉
