What does music mean to you? in Music ·
It’s actually pretty nice when I’m having a drink and you come along to lift my mood... seriously.
All the best and everything 😍
Laura Long5 - they're actually a really solid band. I caught them for the first time yesterday. It would be cool if they could get Andy Gill to handle the production at some point.👍

nah, his brother is 😉

truth is in the eye of the beholder 😬

btw ... I don't think I've ever actually seen a movie that specifically tackles the whole immigrant issue, but since you guys brought it up, maybe it's not a bad thing that the main character is an immigrant 😁

Honestly, they’re just pathetic because of where they are in life right now. They've basically messed up their own lives and now they're trying to fix everything in a single night. It’s such a cliché. The thing is, they made those choices themselves, and choosing to take part in this "event" was just another one of those decisions. Based on how it's shown, if the main guy had actually known what he was getting into, he probably wouldn't have signed up. But the fact that he was lured in by the promise of something decent—even though he had no clue what it really was—kind of hits on that whole theme regarding the struggles of immigrants.

sad but true said:Look, I think the issue is that the movie doesn't really show us why this is specifically an immigrant's struggle. What happened to him could have happened to pretty much anyone, right?

Well yeah, sure it could happen to anyone, but I guess it’s unlikely someone living a relatively stable middle-class life without major setbacks would ever step foot in a shady setup like that. It feels like immigrants are almost tailor-made for these bizarre little "games" played by bored wealthy people, mostly because they don't have much to lose. The other people involved were probably just desperate or unstable, but I suppose that's just a byproduct of how they live—you know, addicts, gamblers, and things like that. That's definitely not the case for the main character.

Mr. Beast said:Alright, let’s get back to the movie. Someone mentioned that the film touches on the status of immigrants in France. I'd love if someone could expand on that a bit. In all my arrogance and ego, I think I missed how the protagonist's immigrant background actually defines their situation.

I guess I can sum it up in a few sentences. It’s not like immigrants in America are living the dream or anything. It’s more that they just have to scrape by however they can. I mean, obviously, an immigrant is probably going to be more willing to take a shady job than some native American who already has everything they need.

Personally, I don't think it was all that bad. A few scenes definitely give off those Melville vibes, especially the ones involving the highway. I caught it during a screening around 8 or 9 in the morning—basically a pre-release showing. Some idiot messed up the reels (or maybe the discs, I don't know), so at one point you’re skipping ahead through part of the movie just so it can loop back later. To make matters worse, that glitchy section didn't even have subtitles. I mean... seriously, who was running the projector? It's honestly unbelievable. Since it was so early, there were only a handful of people in the theater, so my quiet "hello? anyone there?" didn't really do much. A few folks on the side protested under their breath, I guess. So, I can't really give a fair judgment on how good it actually is. Either way, I'm not nearly as disappointed as some of the people in here seem to be.

Honestly, everyone should check out Coen Brothers. For me, every single one of their movies is proof that there’s still some good left in this world. 😍

I don't know who designed his website, but honestly, it’s a total disaster. It makes zero sense 🙂, though maybe he actually wants it to look this crazy—who knows.
Anyway, moving on, Ryan has always flirted with punk, hardcore, and stuff like that just as a fan. The guy listens to and loves Black Flag... he's pretty smart about it. Basically, he recently uploaded 36 of his tracks to the site, which I'd call fairly lucid works. Most of them are about a minute long and there's a bit of everything, including some seriously good punk 🙏. Personally, I'm hoping he releases more of a raw, gritty punk album soon, something I've been looking forward to for years. Some of these might sound like garbage at first, but I guess you should at least try listening to the first ten

The movie itself is just a wash, honestly... I don't even know what to say. But man, the cinematography? Absolutely stunning. Every shot is incredible, and visually, it’s just top-tier. Of course, all that doesn't really matter when everything else about the film falls apart. Still, I don't regret sitting through it. It gave me a few ideas on how I might approach filming if I ever picked up a camera myself... heh.

Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to it... I actually managed to squeeze the book in while I was on vacation down in Florida (just total relaxation, nothing too crazy). You really can't beat this genre, and let's be honest, De Palma is just De Palma. But honestly, everything about this feels like it's going to be a total knockout movie. That's just my gut feeling.

And seriously, all you guys hating on Trier—I bet none of you have even finished one of his movies. By the way, don't get me wrong, I thought Breaking the Waves was just okay, nothing special...

Also (twice!), I'm waiting on Borat too 😬

But honestly, looking at the posts—or more like the endless manifestos—it feels like those guys in the group are just totally lost. I get the feeling they felt this massive need to smear them, or maybe I should say "present them realistically," before such a huge public shift happens. Of course, most people don't have the patience for posts this long. You actually have to sit down and focus to get through them, which isn't exactly easy if you're used to, I don't know, scrolling through quick feeds or whatever. And let's be real, they aren't just some isolated individuals, God forbid 😬

Zvonko Špišić - bells of my city ... where did Chicago go? It’s like everyone is just too ashamed to even mention it now. 😢

Ugh... I'm just not feeling it, honestly. Later, I guess.
I don't think we really need this kind of heavy-handed advertising anymore. People are much more aware now that movies can be more than just mindless entertainment or a way to kill time; there's a real sense that they can actually mean something deeper.
It’s honestly pretty sad seeing that little indie theater on the hill sitting empty so often. I feel like they should probably focus on filling up Central Park first before making a big scene about needing more space for film lovers. If I were running Central Park, I guess I’d try to secure some serious advertising budget and really push the venue properly. I’d probably bug the local papers and news outlets to get better coverage of the schedule and keep the listings updated more frequently... stuff like that. We really need to raise awareness about what's playing, and the city should definitely step up with some funding here. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of those massive multiplexes, but you can't deny that Broadway did a professional job with that Asian film festival, especially from a marketing standpoint. Almost every single screening was sold out.
But whatever, I suppose today's audience is pretty much screwed. We're lucky if we make it through this. 👎
