Doxing on the forum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
jawahell said:And let’s get one thing straight right now—I’m not a fan of anyone swearing or bringing up people's families, especially when dealing with the mods.

It wasn't just about the language, though. It was about the incredibly primitive, cowardly act of leaking someone's private info on this Reddit thread.

On here—and I mean on the forum, not on some random site—you should only be discussing things that a user has actually shared about themselves. At the end of the day, it's their absolute, sacred right to filter what they want to reveal. Anything involving their private life—whether you found out via DMing, grabbing a coffee at Starbucks, or even during post-coital cuddling—is absolutely not meant to be broadcast to the whole world. It’s rude, it’s unprofessional, it's low, and honestly, it says a hell of a lot about the person doing it. If you ask me, I'd hand out a permanent ban for stuff like that, no questions asked.

Is this really supposed to be that "ideal space" everyone keeps raving about, where we can actually voice our suggestions and critiques without things getting nuked?
Honestly, if only there were more places like that left in the world.

Wait, what? 😲Why on earth would they do that?

If the PM-ov are getting involved, my guess is she actually asked for it to be taken down herself. There was zero reason for them to step in otherwise.

I mean, they could have just handled it via email. I don't get it...

P. S. Anyway, she's back.

hollowmason64 said:Sure, but on the flip side, you've got Voden over there calling out Africa, asking where her sense of humanity went—and look, I’m sorry, but what does that actually have to do with anything?
Was that okay to say to her? The woman was just doing the job she was hired to do here 👎

I think I know what you're getting at—you wish she could hand out cards to the mods or the admins too, but she just doesn't have that authority. That's just how the system works, and you've known that since your very first day here.

Is it normal to me that they get a pass on more things than we do?
Yep.
And that's the part you're ignoring.
You can think whatever you want about me because of that, but like you said, the beauty of our thread was that we were tol'ko different. And I honestly think that's more than a positive thing.

But you guys said it in the wrong place!
And that's why nothing was actually achieved besides making everyone turn gray... damn it.🙂

If you're going to claim that everyone has a right to their opinion, then respect ours too—the opinion that this should have been handled differently and in a different space.

That just doesn't fly here. Tyndall already closed the thread and made it crystal clear: anyone who keeps pushing this is getting banned. 😉

Did anyone else here take note of how she was actually feeling today when she had to go ahead and ban those girls?
Do you really think Herp wouldn't pull something like that off?
I honestly feel like this whole thread should have been locked down ages ago...

Call me stupid if you want, but I’m still sitting here scratching my head. I honestly don't get what the goal was with that whole thing. What were you all actually trying to achieve there?

So, what, you guys aren't a fan of some of the rules around here?
It feels like nobody around here actually closes a thread when someone lays out a smart argument or offers something genuinely constructive. Everyone just lets them sit there. And honestly, whether there’s any actual benefit to posting this stuff or not... well, I don't think you're going to change anyone's mind by continuing down this same path you started on. 🤷

So, what did you guys end up getting this time?
Man, they really just shut us down. The thread is locked, and honestly, we all look like a bunch of old hens who got all worked up over nothing—especially since, let’s be real, we’re all just acting a bit high-strung here. In the end, none of us actually walked away with anything. 😢

Look, I’ve moderated a few different forums before, and let me tell you, I hate the job. But if it’s offered to me, I’ll take it—and if I do, I’m going to do my absolute best to stay as objective as possible.

That doesn’t mean I won’t have favorites. I’m a human being, not some programmed bot. Sure, if someone I actually care about messes up, I might look the other way once in a while. But just *once in a while*. Not every single time. Let's say they deserve five strikes; maybe I'll give them four. But they're still getting hit. It has nothing to do with friendship—none at all. That’s just nonsense. Anyone who expects special treatment while knowingly acting like an idiot is just a coward. That’s on them, not the moderator.

I would never, ever put a friend in a position where they had to choose between pleasing me and doing what they need to do in life—their job, their family, their responsibilities.

Honestly, I'm starting to think you're right on that one.

It was just a metaphor. 😉

And now, trolls and idiots have crawled onto every single forum. Sure, there were fewer of them back then, but I’m not even sure what kind of "standard" you're talking about. Are we talking about communication on those old Usenet newsgroups?

I mean, I've been posting since '98 or '99—Chocolate Man might know better, we go way back to those days, though I'm getting old and senile myself 😁—on unmoderated AT&T boards. That forum doesn't even exist anymore. Once it went dark, a lot of us migrated over to the IMF, because during the IMF rebuild, a few IMF folks drifted our way and we hit it off. Back then, anyone could show up; there wasn't some specific "culture." If someone came at you, you had to defend yourself. You dealt with it however you could.

It felt like the community was a bit more chill back then, and the mods weren't constantly throwing red cards at everyone.
Sometimes they'd just block an IP address and call it a day. That was it.

Yeah, they really only had one card to play—the permaban. And you actually had to earn it. 😬

👋 🎉

There I am right on the front page. Though, honestly, I have no idea what I was doing on Science at 2:00 AM. 😬

That version from 2003 actually felt more functional and easier to navigate. 😍 By the way, everything just feels like the IMF to me—I guess I'm just used to the acronym. This counts too. The real issue is that the "I want high-speed web" generation is constantly asking me what any of this stuff even means. 😁

The show was short, but man, the musicianship was tight. It wasn’t perfect by any stretch, but it was definitely solid. I wouldn’t call it a weak performance, not even close.

Hey Jason Morgan, how am I supposed to troll a thread about a possible pregnancy when those topics don't even exist here? You guys are totally right to lock them down and just tell the OP to go see a doctor. I’m not even kidding, I’m genuinely asking, because whenever I see stuff like that, my first instinct is to drop a sarcastic comment like, "Oh yeah, the world's most famous OB-GYNs all practice on the Forum." It’s pure provocation, honestly. But man, I can't help myself. 😬

So, I just double-checked, and there isn't a single mention of it over on Hazelnut. I thought maybe the rules had shifted, but clearly, they haven't.

I mean, which topics actually require me to be dead serious? (Not that I try to provoke people on Hazelnut—or even in the US, really, despite my knack for using a bit of venomous wit when everyone is already dealing with so much crap; I even try to be nice and use smileys 😁), but seriously, which ones are off-limits? 😍

Here’s a specific critique—or maybe I should call it a suggestion: it would be a lot better if you didn't shut down threads until all the questions have actually been answered. Last night, instead of dealing with just one discussion, we ended up with four separate ones, including this last one from Nicholas King. Look, we might not agree, and we might not reach some perfect consensus, but at least we wouldn't end up with a bunch of messy tails or a bunch of unnecessary extra threads. At the end of the day, they're all talking about the exact same thing.

Just let them sit for a day or two. If you decide the conversation is just spinning its wheels in circles, then sure, lock them down. But give the people who started them a chance to get their thoughts out. From what I could tell, everyone was being pretty civil. For those who weren't? Well, there are bans for that. For the trolls? Same deal.

But we're human beings here, not freight trucks. If someone has something to say, let them say it. It’s pretty obvious that this habit of locking things down too fast isn't working, because it just sweeps everything under the rug—only for it to pop back up when you least expect it. 😁

I’m saying this with the best intentions; I really don't want to stick my nose into anyone else's business.

Chloe Green61 said:Ash and everyone else who’s making such a huge stink about these two—do you actually have concrete info on what went down behind the scenes? Are we talking deleted posts, private warnings, moderator-admin sit-downs, or are you all just jumping at the chance to stir up drama and chaos? Honestly, take a second and think about it.

I’ve been in this exact position before. Most people here pretty much know who I am, regardless of whatever handle I’m using, and even Kemik is still around (she had a different username back then too) from the old admin team. With all due respect, your warnings, your interventions, all of it... it drags on for three long years and moves way too slow. While you guys are busy reacting, the victim has already been banned a hundred times over. It’s incredibly frustrating.

I should probably give you some credit, because your intentions are good (Kemik certainly had them, specifically speaking about her). But you can't play guard dog forever. You have to realize that people eventually snap when they see a newcomer—actually, it's always the same person—reappearing under a new identity. And here, it isn't even strictly the case.

Let’s be real: a permanent ban doesn't mean anything. That’s something only the police can settle. I'm saying this so that whoever needs to hear it in this sad little saga actually does.

And Euclid? Yeah, sure, the guy was provoked (slightly). But look at how he reacted. I wanted to comment on that somewhere, but I decided against it. What happened wasn't anything other than a deliberate attempt to cause harm. Regardless of how much people trusted his "methods." You have to judge the intent just as much as the action. I felt bad for Dainty; I really don't think she deserved that.

brightotter24 said:The thing is, my own life is kind of a mess right now too, and he isn't exactly a saint himself. I've told him more than once that I'm done, but he just completely ignores me. I mean, a sane person would have walked away by now, even if it was just to save their own pride.😕

He’s not a saint, sure, but you seem to be jumping back into these relationships for "totally the wrong reasons"—you know, because you're lonely, frustrated with other parts of your life, nursing a bruised ego, punishing yourself, or just plain curious... but definitely NOT because there's any actual affection or love involved.😉

They say insanity is just doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

You have to take charge of your own life instead of waiting for him to change. You remind me of this neighbor of mine who was backing out of her driveway, slammed right into another car while trying to park. We were sitting right there on the patio, just a few feet away. And her reaction? "Well, why didn't any of you yell at me?"😍

So, what do you think? Who should have been watching—us, or her?
How to walk away from a toxic relationship in Psychology & Therapy ·
Easy. You just look him in the eye and say, "I'm done. We're over."

Don't get bogged down in the "why" (the whole "I'm unhappy" or "I don't love you anymore" thing). Honestly? Just skip it. If you give him reasons, he’ll see them as problems to solve. He’ll promise to change, you’ll feel guilty and give him another shot—and before you know it, you’re right back in that same exhausting loop.

State your business, let him vent or throw a tantrum if he needs to, but don't budge. And for heaven's sake, don't let the breakup drag on forever.

It’s not working for me either. And those double posts? They haven't been deleted. I mean, it hasn't happened in a little while, but I noticed the exact same thing as Grace Anderson3.
