It’s not always like that—right now, the timing is spot on. Posts aren't skipping anymore, you know? But just an hour or two ago, things were jumping around by a few minutes... 🧐
Either I’m completely missing something here, or my eyes are failing me... 🤷
I'm definitely not the only one noticing posts jumping around in threads—whether they're posted within sixty seconds of each other or a few minutes apart. I don't know about everyone else, but it seems to me that the timestamp synchronization between this Reddit and my local system (😕) is totally off. For instance, if I post in an XY thread, the timestamp at the top says 15:25—give or take—but my laptop clock is sitting at 15:23. Just to be clear, it’s not an issue with my hardware; everything is clean, macOS is up to date and running, and all that good stuff.
Could anyone explain this better than I just did and maybe give the admins a heads-up so they can fix it? It's getting pretty tedious. 😳
Joining in on the complaining here—mine was acting up too. It cut out for a bit, then held steady for maybe two days before driving me absolutely crazy. :Ovisna: 🙂🙂
My local time here in Washington, D.C., isn't the issue—I always double-check those settings. If I had the wrong time zone selected, the manual sync would have flagged the discrepancy immediately. I'll give this services.msc thing a shot and let you know how it goes...
Sigh... still nothing... After I tried tweaking the sync settings to run every 24 hours, the clock just kept reverting back to whatever time it was during the last sync. Like, the minutes were ticking along fine, but the hour hand would just reset itself every single time. So then I bumped it up to sync every hour—but now the minutes are actually lagging behind... What is even happening here? I'm completely lost at this point...🤦
The laptop is online constantly, and all the updates are installed... Just some random info. 😬
@ Taylor Morales31 😘, everything went exactly how you described—Benjamin King2 was spot on, and I ended up having to switch servers. Even though it kept telling me the next sync wasn't for another week, it really should have been showing no date at all, just like in your third screenshot.
The fix I needed was this in the second post. I set it to sync once a day, did a quick restart, and now it looks exactly like Taylor Morales31's third picture. We'll see if it keeps lagging or not... I tried going back to my original server (the one I've used this whole time without any issues), but it still isn't working—so I'm sticking with the other one, time.nist.gov.
I'm running into some trouble getting my system time to sync up after a fresh install...
Under the synchronization tab in the Control Panel, I'm seeing this: An error occurred while windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com. This operation returned because the timeout period expired.
The clock was most recently synchronized on 10.8.2011. at 21:22. (which is just when I last manually set the time myself)
I've installed Windows XP plenty of times before and never ran into this—it’s the first time in a week... A "timeout period"? Any idea what I should do here?...
Alright... First things first... No one on this thread called you stupid. My PDF is practically sterile, and calling someone names is an instant ban for harassment here. I don't hand out bans for things I wouldn't even say myself—so there's that.
As for everything else... You just dropped into this subforum out of nowhere—like a bolt from the blue. We don't know who you are or what your deal is. See, people looking for info in the Student Corner usually come with a backstory—they’re either students themselves, or maybe a relative or a friend. And while there's no rule saying you have to state who you are, they always do it—it's just basic psychology and statistics—Boxer, I'm asking for a friend... Hey, here's a worried/confused mom... and so on. You haven't said a single thing.
@ regarding payments Both Shokor and Markec have explained how the payment situation stands several times, but they were treating it as an assumption, not a settled fact. I could have explained the payment situation to you the same way, but I decided to stay quiet since nothing is certain yet. And it isn't certain. It’s not even confirmed if anyone among the students will actually be paying anything. Markec explained very clearly how much the university expects/needs, and the school doesn't really care where the money comes from—whether it's from students or the Department. With all due respect, I honestly can't wrap my head around why this still isn't clear to you after several detailed responses.
@ trolling Do you think it's okay for me to just kick someone off a thread? Of course not. 🙏 Everyone has every right to speak up, ask questions, comment, or join in on a discussion. But by constantly asking for clarification on top of clarifications on top of clarifications, you've taken over the thread. Even though people have explained everything to you thoroughly—those two mentioned above in great detail, plus a few others chiming in—it's still not clicking for you... 🙏 People simply don't know what else to tell you, or how to explain it so that it finally sinks in. And it's not just that—you keep reposting the same question until you find someone else to start the whole cycle over again... 🙏 But you still don't get it! 🙏
Freshmen want to ask about specific courses... what the professors are like, and stuff like that. But they can't—or rather, they won't—because every other question gets lost in the endless loop of explanations regarding your own repetitive questions and explanations of explanations, which is what you're actually doing. 🙏
And I can't allow that to happen on this thread (not on any of them). That's why I labeled you a troll and asked you to step away from the topic.
Joshua Adams said:I don't know—to me, this thread was useful because I could read through everyone else's experiences before my testing and my medical exams. If it's not needed anymore, maybe just move it to another sub-forum or start a new one and just link back to this old one... we're all used to finding everything right here, so starting from scratch is tough....
Maybe it helped you, but it’s over now regardless. The experiences are posted, the physicals are done, the medicals are passed, people have been called... and that's that. I noticed you didn't have a single warning on this thread, which is actually pretty impressive—you were probably one of only two or three people out of about 30 who actually followed the rules.
And yeah, darkmaker94 is right—this is the worst thread on the entire PDF. We are the Student Corner—there isn't supposed to be bickering or personal opinions here. We're an information-based PDF meant to serve as a resource for both active forum members and those just lurking.
@ hollowtrucker77 Yeah, if they actually put in the effort to read it, they would've caught it. They let one person run a whole solo conversation in the thread—all the clones always agreed perfectly with the original handle. 😁
Sure, you can all moan about how a million people failed their physical exams because they were right there in the group with you—you know 100% they flunked. Then, a different faction emerges, claiming those people only failed due to their own lack of effort, and you start trolling the thread just to get a rise out of people... until the mods step in, hand out bans, and everything goes quiet for a week or two depending on the length of the ban. Then, a new batch of users pops up—clones—who act extra careful about criticizing the government, the police, the Police Academy, the Department of Corrections, or anyone with connections... ☕
I couldn't keep an eye on this thread for more than 24 hours without a total meltdown occurring. Even when I didn't have time to moderate the entire PDF, I made sure to check the status at the Police Academy. Basically, there are now two locked threads titled Police Academy, through which a parade of characters has marched—probably clones of clones of clones, honestly, I don't care. And every single thread likely had about half its posts deleted—between the trolling about nepotism, the mutual insults, the bashing of the aforementioned list, the spamming just to pass the time, and the flirting*.
I actually advised you guys ages ago to just start your own thread in Off-topic, but for some reason, nobody took the hint. 🤷
The battle over this thread has been dragging on for what feels like over a year now. I took over managing you all five months ago, and during that whole time, I’ve been issuing warnings, giving strikes, and eventually resorting to direct bans, but people just kept doing whatever they wanted. Plus, I wiped out a few clones myself, though I left even more alone simply because I was feeling lazy. Mea culpa. Before me, Karen Jones68 fought with you for months too—warnings, strikes, bans—nothing worked. Before her, darkmaker94 fought you for months as well—warnings, strikes, bans—nothing.
So, tell me one single reason why this thread should even exist.
* most people don't even know since everything was being deleted so fast; only the ones who participated actually know
p.s. I've said it several times already, but it doesn't hurt to repeat. The thread is called Police Academy. It's strictly for people who want to get into the Academy, people who are already enrolled, and maybe the occasional officer. In other words—people who (theoretically) uphold order, peace, and the laws of this country. But the people in this thread weren't even capable of following basic forum rules.
p.p.s. A quick story from real life. The other day, a friend asks if I know anything about the Academy because her middle school friend wants to join. I tell her—honey, you've stumbled upon a gold mine; I know everything from A to Z about it. 🙏 She says—oh okay, just send me the link, I'll dig through the info myself. I say—look, I can give you the link, but the thread is... well... not exactly informative... She says—just give me the link. Okay, I shoot her the link, and she gets back to me a few minutes later—ugh, what on earth did you send me? 😂😂 I am not reading all that...🙏
This thread really should have been structured so that people who don't even post on the forum could read it, but you guys simply wouldn't allow it. Even seven-day bans didn't mean a thing to you.
About two or three weeks ago, I had this nasty run-in here on the forum with some guy—basically an idiot, long story short. It wasn't even my fault. And I just thought to myself—karma's coming for you. 😈 A few days later, he posts in a thread about how a hundred people slammed into glass doors thinking they were automatic. 😁
The first thing that happened after watching that movie (got it on a DVD, snagged it for free😁) was on the day of my mother's wedding. I had to take a bus from my place in Washington, D.C., and following my usual pattern, I was running late. 🙄 But this time, I was seriously, freaking late...🤦 Usually, it takes me about 35 to 40 minutes to get from my front door to the Greyhound station. This time, it took me exactly 20 minutes, and I actually showed up 5 minutes early enough to grab a ticket at the window—anyone who uses the bus knows they stop selling tickets at the counters five minutes before departure. The thing was, everything timed out so perfectly that it ended up being the very last bus I could take to make the wedding. Otherwise, I wouldn't have needed to travel home at all.
What else... what else...? Oh, I remember the film Mona Lisa smile and then a week later, it was playing on TV...😁
One slightly more serious thing... For the last five and a half years, I’ve been living in Washington, D.C., for college, intending to stay; but a few months ago, I found out things that forced me to move back home... To put it bluntly, home is a total hellscape (between a terrible family—aside from the one person I moved back for—disgusting neighbors, that awful local mentality, constant harassment...). As soon as I knew I had to go back, I promised myself I'd move back to Washington, D.C., by the fall. The result—home is still a nightmare, but starting next month, I'm looking for an apartment in Washington, D.C. 😍
I have zero intention of doing your job for you—nor am I going to go around complaining about other members just because they happen to be fans of one of the lead actors. To be clear, I’m not obsessing over anyone. The people filing these complaints have specifically targeted the three of us. Everywhere I post, I get followed by users throwing warnings at me, acting like I might accidentally spam a thread like people do with Supernatural. If there isn't something personal going on here, I honestly don't know what else to call it. 🤷
So, what? You think this isn't happening in every other thread?
First off, this isn't even close to being a comparison. I’ve read much worse—and way longer "debates"—on other threads about certain actresses, and those stay up without anyone ever raising an eyebrow.
Second, these photos actually belong here, at least partially. One of our members already pointed this out—and I hate to repeat myself—but those three pictures in the same post are from a recent convention in Chicago featuring the actress and the actor. Maybe I should apologize for wanting to share that with everyone...
Third, you aren't looking at all the posts, and they aren't even in chronological order.
You can't just dodge the point, even though I know that's exactly what you're trying to do because you're a moderator. You're being way too hard on us just because we stepped away from the main chat for more than six months. If you're going to control us this much, go ahead and police every single topic and delete every post until there's nothing left. After that, I won't say another word...
northerncrane4, why exactly is fandom stuff considered spam to you? In your view, do fans just lose their right to post unless they stick to dry commentary—like, good/great/terrible episode.? And is a little bit of news about the actors off-limits too? Are we supposed to start a whole new thread for that? Does a bit of joking around in the series thread count as forbidden now? Because, honestly, it all seems on-topic to me... 🤷
I’m really not looking for a fight or anything, but I would genuinely love to hear your take and get some answers to these questions.
