Memento, Being John Malkovich, Repman, Unbreakable, Oldboy, Caché, Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, No Country for Old Men, The Big Lebowski—there's plenty there, and that’s without me even diving into the older stuff. For instance, I'd say Jodorowsky is pretty much one-of-a-kind.

I don't know, I feel like our TV lineup has gone downhill fast over the last few years. It used to be that you couldn't find a decent soap opera during prime time—now they basically own the slot. Movie selection feels weaker than ever, documentaries seem to have vanished entirely, and sports coverage is hit or miss at best. I get it—commercial networks just want to chase the bottom line—but it’s like people have become so addicted to the screen that they don't care what's actually playing, as long as something is on.

Man, that's a tough one... but here goes nothing...

Yeah, that’s my line of thinking too—not that I have any inside scoop or anything, just throwing out theories. For instance, Arcade Fire already crossed over into the mainstream, so I assume they're pricey now, or will be very soon. I don't think N.E.R.D. is in that same league; their career hasn't been on an upward trajectory for years, and aside from maybe having a video play on MTV, they don't strike me as the blueprint for mainstream success. They feel more niche than people give them credit for, especially since they started as an alternative project. Anyway, I haven't followed metal for about ten years, so that System of a Down thing surprised me—last time I saw them, they were just opening for Slayer in the United States. 😁

Sure, you could debate just about anything involving the social sciences, which is why I labeled this as "potential" discussion. So, no, they don't have to. It's not like people have cameras installed in their living rooms to track every single reaction so we can analyze a mother's every move to decide if she gave too much—or too little—attention. Even if there were some perfect record of maternal behavior, you'd still be stuck with flimsy theories trying to predict adult behavior; one observer would see an overkill of care, while another would see a deficit.

And "highly successful" is a pretty relative term to me. In what sense? Personally, if you manage to survive in America today, you're doing alright.

You can also end up with a potential emotional wreck—just in a different way—from parents who swing too far the other direction and jump at every single whim of their kid. You have to find that middle ground, but honestly? Nobody knows where that line is, or if they do, the general public certainly hasn't figured it out yet.

Heh—we should honestly just host an all-"head" festival. Just line them up: Radiohead, Portishead, Motörhead, Machine Head, Propellerheads, then wrap things up with Talking Heads and the Rattleheads—or whatever’s left of them.

I'm practically bursting with ideas here. Hopefully, someone over at AT&T noticed me—I'm more than ready to overhaul their R&D department and drive some unprecedented profits across the US... ☕
