If you really want to know if Joe Biden is a sympathizer of the Republican Party in Canada, you just have to look back at what happened eight years ago, way back in 2014. He’s basically just been riding that same wave ever since.
So, my laptop's internal Hard Drive (a Dell Latitude) is split into two partitions. I've got the C: drive, which is about 40 GB and holds the OS, and then the D: drive, roughly 280 GB, where all my actual files live.
For years, I stuck with Windows 7, stubbornly refusing to make the jump to Windows 10.
Then, sometime after New Year's Day back in January, I was forced to format the C: partition to get some specific programs working, so I did a clean install of Windows 10. On the other hand, I didn't touch the D: partition at all—it's vital to me since it’s packed with private family stuff and work documents.
That's when things started going south. Windows 10 was "slow as molasses" and it seems like that 40 GB wasn't nearly enough... After the install, I was left with maybe 2 GB of free space. It was painfully slow, but I just dealt with it.
But about ten days ago, it started acting up. It wouldn't boot on the first try, and the Hard Drive itself started making this weird noise—never happened before. For the last ten days or so, I've had to restart the laptop three or four times just to get Windows to boot. Most of the time, it just throws an error saying "There is no O.S.," as if the operating system vanished. And even when Windows 10 finally decides to load after several tries, it's incredibly sluggish and keeps freezing. Plus, there's that strange sound coming from the Hard Drive... As of yesterday, getting Windows 10 to boot is basically impossible.
Last night, I grabbed a Windows 10 installation disc and a Windows 7 installation USB stick. First, I formatted the C: partition again, but neither one would install. Neither Windows 7 nor Windows 10. Just kept throwing error 0x80070005.
From what I can tell, it looks like the Hard Drive is dying. I won't say it's completely dead, but it's definitely "on its last legs." It's about 10 or 12 years old, after all.
Let's say I go out and buy a new Hard Drive, pop it into the laptop, and everything works fine.
What I need to know is: how am I going to rescue the important data on the D: partition from this current Hard Drive? How can I temporarily connect this existing Hard Drive to the laptop to copy those files over? They're really important to me.
Hey there. I've been chewing on a dilemma for quite a while now.
It's a hypothetical scenario.
day 1:
Let's say you decide to hit exactly 2,000 calories today. But you’re doing it the relatively healthy way. For breakfast, you have some boiled eggs. For a snack, maybe some oatmeal with berries, ginger, and chia seeds, soaked in tea with a spoonful of med. Lunch is chicken, rice, and some green veggies. Dinner is fish and sautéed spinach.
day 2:
Today, you also aim for 2,000 calories. Except this time, let's call it junk food. Breakfast is a hot dog or a burger with fries. For lunch, a heavy slice of pizza—something like a deep-dish style. Then dinner is pancakes topped with Nutella and bananas.
Assume you managed to calculate both days perfectly, hitting exactly 2,000 calories each time. And let's assume zero physical activity—just walking around the apartment, sitting, lying down, basically nothing until bedtime.
The question is: Will those 2,000 calories from day 1 and the 2,000 from day 2 contribute to fat gain in the same way? Is the first day "healthier," meaning those specific calories will somehow be less likely to turn into body fat?
Essentially, I'm asking if every calorie contributes to fat storage in the exact same way, regardless of where it comes from. Does a 70-calorie spoonful of med fatten you up just as much as a piece of Milka chocolate that also happens to be 70 calories?
I mean, let them revive those old franchises if they want, but personally, I think we really need to take a breather from all these constant reboots. They just feel cheap. Like, look at the Star Trek 2009 reboot, or the reboot of The Mummy, or whatever else they're cycling through lately. It’s just not a good move.
Hey there. I'm looking to pick up a tablet, pretty much just so I have something to watch movies on while I'm at the gym. My main priority is battery life—needs to last at least 6 hours of continuous playback—and a decent screen. By "decent," I mean bright enough so I'm not straining my eyes. Budget is a big factor too; it’s not like I need anything fancy since it's strictly for this one purpose. Also, an SD card slot would be great so I can expand the storage.
I used to have a 7-inch iPad Air. It had two massive flaws. First, it couldn't play half the video formats out there; nothing worked, not the native player, not VLC Media Player, not even Windows Media Classic Player... nothing. Second, the screen was just way too small.
Do these newer tablets handle all those different file formats better?
Just finished watching Spider-Man: Homecoming. Pretty solid flick.
Marvel Studios dumped over $2 billion into their Cinematic Universe, and they’ve pulled in nearly $13 billion. That kind of $11 billion profit over the last nine years... well, it says a lot.
Robin Hayes2 said:I caught an interview where Jim Carrey was talking about how the industry just goes through these cycles. Basically, some actor lands a hit, everything becomes trendy overnight, and everyone starts obsessing over it endlessly. That’s pretty much what we're seeing right now with all these superhero movies.
Personally, I've never been that into superhero flicks, though I guess I've sat through a few of them just to stay current. To me, the whole genre feels like pure mass production—it's got this heavy vibe of "let's just churn out a movie to rake in massive profits."😁
Bawring.
Jim Carrey is the king, though. He played The Riddler in Batman Forever. So, he's not exactly allergic to those kinds of movies. And he did The Mask, if you can even call him a superhero. Honestly, I think it’s impossible to reboot The Mask because there isn't an actor out there talented or perfect enough to step into his shoes. That role just fit him perfectly.
I think everyone’s noticed the massive influx of superhero movies over the last 15 years or so, especially in the last decade, and really, specifically in the last five or six.
Marvel kicked off their cinematic universe, and DC recently tried to follow suit.
What’s your take on all this? Where is it actually taking the film industry? I get that these things rake in piles of cash. But I have this nagging feeling that people are just getting... dulled by it all. Seriously. A total mindfuck.
I watched the first Avengers movie and spent the whole time laughing; honestly, it felt like watching something meant for toddlers. Don't get me wrong, Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy is an excellent film series, especially the second one. I actually enjoyed that. But lately? Between Captain America, Iron Man, Avengers and Thor, then that Batman vs. Superman, the Spider-Man reboot, and now they're prepping another reboot... I don't know. It’s just grating. I'm sick of it. After seeing that first Avengers flick, I didn't intend to watch another superhero movie ever again. Okay, fine, I'll admit I went to the theater for Batman vs. Superman because a friend pressured me. Once again, like the Avengers. Ridiculous. It's like they assume we all have below-average intelligence or something. The movie just bored me.
And the absolute worst—maybe my single biggest disappointment regarding superhero movies—was that TMNT movie with Megan Fox. The whole plot was so childish. The turtles looked like anything except actual turtles; more like two-meter-tall aliens. And then there's that whole subplot about April O'Neil and her childhood working in a lab with her dad. I was just sitting there laughing. The Teletubbies seem more mature than TMNT. For me, Thor is also complete garbage, as is Captain America.
Look, I can understand the comic book fans, but personally, these movies just don't sit right with me, and it feels like Hollywood is picking up the pace. Every two months, there's a new superhero movie dropping. Then I saw they're making a sequel to TMNT hahaha. What can you even say?
Am I the only one who thinks this superhero onslaught is just pure trash?
Is this just some kids' movie, or is it more like that 1994 version where adults can actually enjoy it too? I thought the '94 one was great, even if it only pulled in about $50 million total at the box office. This new one is already sitting pretty at over $500 million.
I've got Windows 7 running on my machine. Ever since I uninstalled Aegisub, all my .srt files—you know, the subtitle files—have just been showing up with a .txt icon. It's a bit distracting, honestly. I went ahead and reinstalled Aegisub, but nothing changed; they’re still stuck looking like text files:
They really ought to have an icon similar to my .sub files. Is there a way to fix this? Any idea how to change it back?
PS Finally got this thing sorted out. Turns out there were two identical SSIDs clashing in the registry. To clear the whole mess out, you have to follow these steps from this guide:
Rachel Brooks63 said:She mentioned you might have assigned a static IP to that laptop, and that could be the culprit. Are your settings set to DHCP/automatic, or did you hardcode an IP? Try switching it back to automatic, at least just to test things out.
It’s already on automatic. Still stuck. It seems like whenever there's a "2" appended to the SSID, it works, but without the "2," the internet just drops out. Is there some way to fix this through the registry?
Yeah, I am. It keeps throwing a DNS error at me. But here's the weird part—it only acts up when I've got it hooked up to the Netgear, whereas everything runs perfectly fine when I switch over to the Netgear 2. Is there some kind of registry entry on my PC where I can just wipe all that out and start fresh?
Hey everyone. I’m dealing with a really weird Wi-Fi issue, and it’s happening exclusively on my main laptop—the one I actually need to get work done on. 👎
So, here’s the setup. I have an Xfinity modem with built-in Wi-Fi, but the range is pretty pathetic, so I originally hooked up a TP-Link router to extend the signal into my room. That worked fine. Then that router died, and someone gave me a Netgear router to use instead. I plugged the Netgear into the Xfinity modem, and everything seems fine for everyone else. My two other laptops in the house connect just fine, the tablet works, all the phones are good—except for my laptop (of course). It’s a very specific headache.
Basically, when I connect to the Netgear, the laptop establishes the connection but there's zero internet access:
But about once every five tries, I’ll actually get internet access, though it feels like playing the lottery:
I’ve highlighted both scenarios in red, but the most important part is what I marked in blue at the top. When that "2" isn't there, there's no internet. But when the "2" shows up, everything works. Most of the time, it connects without the "2," and then I'm stuck with no connection. It’s almost like the computer remembers two different networks with the same name—one with a "2" at the end and one without—and they're clashing. If it hits the one with the "2," I'm golden. Without it, nothing. And it's always the same device I'm trying to use.
I even tried removing the network profile entirely:
...but the same thing happens. The Netgear name pops up again, sometimes with the "2" and sometimes without. It’s back to the same cycle where either I have no internet, or I have to be incredibly lucky to catch the one with the "2." How do I fix this mess? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hey everyone. Decided to pop in here since I'm stuck. A few years back, I got hit with a ban from the Cars subforum. There was this one totally unhinged, ultra-conservative, neurotic jerk of an admin, StinGer, who isn't even an admin or a member on the site anymore. But he still managed to screw me over for good, and now I have no idea who to talk to about getting this ban lifted. Honestly, I only got it because he was having a bad day and didn't like my vibe. Anyway, doesn't really matter. Since I can't access that damn part of the forum to ask you there, I figured I'd try here. What do you call those chrome pieces that go around car doors? Is there an official name for them? I'm looking to order some, but I'm clueless on what to search for.
