What Drew Allen77 mentioned is actually a solid little program too—I use it myself all the time.

Greetings! I am reaching out to all you kind souls in the hope that someone might be able to offer some guidance. To be perfectly honest, I am a complete novice when it comes to computers; this whole digital world is quite foreign to me. Recently, my machine broke down, and after it was repaired, they installed Windows 7 on it. Since then, I have been plagued by constant issues whenever I try to watch videos. Every single time I attempt to view a clip on YouTube or even just browse other websites, the whole thing freezes up immediately, and I’m greeted by this persistent notification about an "unresponsive script." Please, I implore you, how can I resolve this 🤦 so that I may go back to watching my videos without any further interruption?

Hey, so I grabbed this screensaver online, installed it, and set everything up to kick in after a minute. I even messed with the power settings to make sure the screen shuts off after a minute too, but the screensaver just won't show up—instead, the screen just stays on. I tried setting the screen to never turn off to see if that was the issue, but nope, still nothing. The screen stays bright, but the screensaver is a ghost. If anyone can help me out, I'm all ears.

thanks

Fixed it: turns out my power settings were set to "never" whenever the laptop was plugged in. My bad.

Hey, so I just finished reinstalling Windows and everything seems fine, except my laptop isn't picking up the webcam at all. It’s like it doesn't even exist in the device list. Do I maybe need to hunt down some drivers or something?
It's an HP Elitebook 8730

Sure thing. Just head over to the HP website and download the right driver from there.

Hey everyone, I could use some help here.

Basically, does anyone know of a decent tool for searching internal data on a hard drive? I'm running Windows 7 and relying on the built-in search feature, but half the time it fails to actually find what I'm looking for.

Have you tried messing around with those advanced search parameters in Windows 7?

To be clear, they want this search tool to function exactly like the "Find" feature in Word or Excel.
They want it to scan through documents created in Word or Excel—searching for specific words, letters, or numbers deep inside those files. It is absolutely possible to configure this.

I don't think anything like that exists in the desktop version. As far as I know, the only public algorithm of that kind out there is Google Search. It can't just scan through your files... at most, you could probably filter to show everything with a specific extension, like '*.docx'.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some solid software to help me track my tasks and obligations, maybe something like a digital planner or a scheduler, though I'm honestly not even sure what the right term for it is

It doesn't really matter to me whether it's free or if I have to pay for it

Thanks

What does that have to do with Windows 7?

Staying on topic, I’d personally recommend Evernote.

I've got Windows XP sitting on my C drive. I went ahead and installed Windows 7 on the D partition, and everything seemed to go smoothly at first—it even gave me the option to choose between XP or 7 during bootup. But every time I pick Windows 7, it starts loading and then just... hangs. It just sits there indefinitely. Does the D partition need to be set as the primary partition when installing Windows 7? I've tried the whole installation process a few times now, but it always ends up freezing during the boot sequence...

Hello there.

- I am quite new to this community, so please bear with me if I have posted in the wrong sub-forum or if I am accidentally starting a thread that has already been discussed. I am still getting the hang of navigating everything here.

My question is this:

- Will I be able to install Windows 7 on the following hardware configuration without any major issues?

-Memory (RAM): 1GB

-AMD Athlon(tm) Processor LE-1640 - 2.60 GHz

-Integrated RAMDAC GeForce 7050 PV / NVIDIA nForce 630a,

-Total Available Graphics Memory 319MB

-Dedicated Video Memory 128MB,

-Shared system memory 191 MB

- HDD Capacity 524 GB, which is about 488 GB usable

- I don't plan on using this machine for gaming or anything intensive; I just want to use it for Facebook, YouTube, watching movies (they don't need to be in HD), and putting together presentations in Microsoft Office.
- I won't be installing many programs either—just the ones I use regularly:

- Photoscape
- CCleaner
- Torrent client
- Microsoft Office
- Microsoft Office
- Google Chrome and Mozilla
- VLC Media Player, and perhaps one or two other small apps at most.

I am wondering if the system will struggle when watching videos or browsing Facebook. 🙂
And if Windows 7 isn't a good fit, which version of Windows should I look into installing instead? 🙂 Thanks.

With those specs, you should be able to run it for a full week without any issues at all...
Granted, 1GB of RAM isn't much by today's standards, but it will still serve its purpose quite reliably enough.

It’ll work, sure, but don't expect much speed; it’s going to crawl along like a slow Tuesday in mid-winter.

If I were you, I’d at least upgrade to one more 1GB stick of RAM before you even think about installing Windows 7.
