I have a question regarding protein. Is it actually beneficial for women to take supplements? In my case, I am looking to work on body composition—specifically toning my legs and losing a bit of extra weight around my hips. I hit the gym three times a week and maintain a disciplined diet. Currently, I use
Reform and L-carnitine.

Of course... besides, you're getting protein in with every meal anyway, so this powder stuff isn't even different except that it hits your system faster after a workout—if we're talking about WHEY. Forget all that nonsense like L-carnitine and whatever else... just wasting money. Just train and eat.

I picked up a small sample bag of Weider Nutrition's 4-component Protein 80 to try out. I suppose it should be fine, right?

Hey everyone 🙂 hoping you guys can help out a skydiver looking for some advice on

I need some thoughts on this protein from Walmart—it's their own brand, Das Gesunde plus - Sportness, Protein 90 (a 350g tub for about $17). I'm thinking of using it as a quick supplement since I'm not a competitive athlete, and maybe to help with weight loss by swapping out one meal a day.

The breakdown: 91% milk proteins, 4.5% soy protein isolate, flavoring, magnesium carbonate, vegetable oil, sweetener, salt, and a bunch of vitamins. They claim it’s got a full amino acid profile.

Per 100g it's 375 kcal,
so one serving (30g powder mixed with about a cup of 1.5% skim milk) comes out to 253 kcal.

So... is it actually any good? If not, why not?

(Just a heads up, I can't really do egg whites as a protein source because of an intolerance 😢 that popped up on a blood test. Honestly, I'm not even sure if it's legit, but allergic reactions aren't something I want to mess with... I've ended up in the ER a couple of times because of it.

There’s already a thread about him. Generally speaking, they're loaded with soy fillers—hardly high quality, though the price tag should have tipped you off. Just Google it; some guy on a bodybuilding forum posted a photo of lab results for a tested sample. Honestly, just shell out a little more cash and buy an honest whey protein...

Just Google it; some guy on an American bodybuilding forum posted a photo of a lab-tested sample showing the actual nutrition/supplement facts. Bottom line? Just scrape together a little more cash and grab a decent whey instead.

Actually, I did try typing this into the search bar first, but nothing came up. So what, those protein percentages—4.5% soy and 91% whey that the German manufacturers listed on the box—are just straight-up lies?

Btw, I peeled off the American translation label, and the original packaging also claims 91% milk protein 🤔

By the way, I peeled off the American translation label, and the original packaging also claims 91% milk protein.🤔

Most proteins sent for lab testing showed at least some minor deviation from the label, usually just traces of soy. But that’s not even the real issue. The real issue is that the whey is loaded with lactose, while the soy is an isolate. At least, that's what they say.

I read about those Walmart proteins a long time ago, back when I wasn't nearly as educated on this stuff as I am now.🙂

Here are a few links. Read through them; it's mostly just old forum discussions. You'll run into some nonsense, like people claiming the flaws were caused by something else. Ignore that.😁 Just focus on the actual quality and the whole deal with the soy isolate.

🙂 thanks a ton, man, I'll definitely give it a read.

Look, if we're talking about estrogen issues from that 4.5% soy—I'm a woman 😬, so honestly, it's not a massive deal for me. Total carbs are sitting at 4.1g per 100g of powder, with 3.2g being sugar, so it’s not like it's absolutely loaded with lactose—which is a carb anyway.

Maybe I'm just being stubborn, but I really hope the fact that they're relatively cheap doesn't make you guys look down on the product... I'm just hoping there's an actual, legitimate reason to pass on it. Like, those links above talk about some older versions that tasted pretty nasty—but this one is the new vanilla flavor, and it actually tastes decent.

Better to be asking about the calories and sugar in that thing...

Has anyone maybe had some experience with MVP's proteins? I've heard they're actually really good and that you get a great bang for your buck—has anyone tried them?

I've got my hands on the MVP's Pro Whey 3 g, the 32oz tub, which I snagged for $67, and honestly? I think it's an absolute steal...
The ingredient list looks pretty solid from my amateur perspective—plus, I haven’t heard a single bad thing about this stuff out there.
My only gripe is that the flavor is a little bit "off." I went with the Chocolate Brownies, but let me tell you, it's nowhere near actual chocolate. It’s drinkable enough, though—I've already gotten used to it—and if you mix some glucose in there, it actually tastes way better 🙂
