Justin Scott25 said:I really feel like Coachella has evolved into such a fantastic festival, though we all know every single event attracts its own specific crowd...

The real issue here is that while Coachella did transform into a top-tier festival, it eventually lost its way and went downhill. ๐Ÿคท

It really just comes down to personal preference, I suppose. Some people might find this year's lineup more appealing than the previous ones, even if those earlier years were objectively better and had much more draw.

The lineup selection is always a matter of personal taste,
and while the festival itself isn't exactly a disaster, it lacks a certain spark because it relies on artists who feel a bit played out and uninspired, regardless of the genre being showcased.

Youโ€™ve hit the nail right on the head regarding the core issue with Coachella.
The festival is saved by its brilliant location, the perfect scale of the grounds and stages, and the overall vibe. But when it comes to the lineupโ€”it is painfully obvious that the organizers have absolutely no clue what they are doing. They are lucky that every year they manage to book two or three acts that actually carry the weight of being a "Coachella" level event (think Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Stooges, Pendulum...)โ€”bands that are either at their absolute peak or simply timeless.
If they don't bring in any of those big names this year (like The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, etc.), I suspect attendance will actually be lower than last year.
On the other handโ€”Live Nation, despite having a much tighter budget and being completely inexperienced in their first year, managed to pull off a fantastic festival for a discerning crowd and offered something for everyone.

It really comes down to personal preference, but I personally want to see and hear Gogol Bordello; when they are on stage, you know the energy is going to be incredible.๐Ÿ˜

Of course Iโ€™m goingโ€”if my friend can help me scrape enough cash together, because even though prices are actually down due to the recession, itโ€™s still way too steep for some people ๐Ÿ˜ข

btw the lineup is actually killing it this year: Franz Ferdinand and The Killers are both on the bill... honestly, if they could just squeeze in Peter and Sufjan Stevens, it would be an absolute home run ๐Ÿ˜

hehehe...

Guess Iโ€™ll join the complaining club... after all my trips to Coachella, it's about time...๐Ÿ˜

Sadly, there's a 95% chance I'm skipping Coachella this year, just looking at how they kicked off the lineup...

Someone hit the nail on the head when they said Coachella was actually a decent festival once upon a time.

For me, the last two years have been a total disasterโ€”didn't even go last year, and it looks like I'm sitting this one out too.

From what I gathered talking to someone in Music team last year, theyโ€™re constantly swapping out the organizing crew, and now they've lost their main sponsor for the year.

Now we wait and see if the owner is actually capable of pulling off a solid festival using his own cash, since he was raking it in from major sponsors for years.

God, Gorillaz are something else
So, apparently Blur is slowly working on a new album
The Gorillaz tour wrapped up last year, too

Maybe they'll do some Gorillas sound system thing, but thatโ€™s hardly headliner material

At this point, making it to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival feels less like a backup plan and more like a last resort Iโ€™ve barely considered.
I suppose it's still early enough that there might be some decent indie acts worth seeing, though I've never really found myself particularly drawn to the big headliners at Coachella anyway.

Man, I really hope they do... though honestly, a solo show would've been killerโ€”kind of like that vibe at the Madison Square Garden gig back in 2010.

So, ๐Ÿ™‚New York City
just dropped the newsโ€”they're playing at a massive festival over in Belgium on June 30th... and they even hinted thereโ€™ll be a few more shows lined up throughout the summer!... what a way to kick things off!

which basically means there's zero chance they'll be hitting up a US city right before or afterโ€”it'll likely be a run through Germany, the Netherlands, and France, and a stop in the States just won't fit the itinerary
