I mean, with Windows XP, you run into issues because it lacks native SATA drivers, so it just won't recognize the drive, making a Windows installation impossible until you configure things manually. Windows 7 shouldn't be an issue since those drivers are built right in—plus, you mentioned needing to partition the drive anyway. It sounds like the real headache starts when you try copying the install files from the DVD to your Hard Disk Drive and everything starts erroring out. I'm pretty sure it's not a BIOS thing.
What specific error are you getting??
Maybe try posting the exact error message; that might help us figure out what's going on.

So you downloaded the ISO image, right? Look, just grab Nero or some other decent burning software, hit that "burn ISO" option, and pop it onto a DVD. That’s how you get a bootable disc that actually works. Simple as that.

Look, it’s really not that simple!

It can't get any simpler than this, honestly. I don't know what you're struggling with. 🙂

I’ll go ahead and brag a little—I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate, and honestly, it’s been fantastic. 🙂

Yeah. You honestly have to click through three different times, when they really could have just made it one or two clicks max.

Not sure if I should post this here or in the laptop section, so sorry if I'm in the wrong spot.

I've got a Toshiba NB100 (Atom 1.6, 1GB RAM, 120GB Hard Disk Drive, etc.) running Windows XP Home. It's running pretty slow, so I was thinking about upgrading to Windows 7 since I can just install it from a disc instead of messing around with a bootable USB.
Does anyone have this exact setup, or something similar with a netbook and Windows 7, that actually works okay?

Thanks🙏

I had a small Acer once. Honestly, I’d suggest sticking with Windows XP; it’s really the best fit for netbooks. If it feels sluggish because of all the junk Toshiba bundles with Windows, you could just run a clean install of Windows XP or maybe try stripping out that bloatware.

CRITICAL ISSUE!!! I’m hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction here...
I’ve got an Asus A7U laptop, and I just finished installing Windows 7 today, but I've hit a bit of a wall because the drivers on the included CD aren't playing nice with the system... It didn't automatically pick up the drivers for my graphics card or the sound card, leaving me with neither...

Windows 7 Professional isn't showing an active internet connection in my taskbar. Even when I hover over the icon, the tooltip claims there's no connection, even though the internet is working perfectly fine on my end.
The only way to fix it is to head into Services and manually restart the NLA service; once I do that, the status updates correctly.
However, as soon as I reboot, the exact same issue comes right back.
For context, I'm using a Huawei E220 modem if that helps anyone troubleshoot.
I've tried searching on Google but haven't found anything useful. If anyone knows how to fix this, please help!!

From what I can tell on the Asus site, your laptop isn't officially listed as supporting Windows 7.
Maybe you could try using the Vista drivers? Most of them work fine with Windows 7. 🙂 Good luck!

Seriously, with all the "experts" hanging out on this forum, is nobody actually going to help? Or are we all just gonna stay silent? 🙂

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll just go with a clean Windows XP install. I really don't feel like making a bootable USB, but I guess I have no choice... can you actually install Windows XP from a USB drive?

Just try typing "windows desktop gadgets has stopped working" into Google and see what comes up.

One of the fixes might be this one, I guess:

I was wondering if there’s actually any noticeable difference in speed when it comes to rendering, video editing, or even just running WinRAR between Windows 7 x86 and Windows 7 x64.
My setup is:
i5 2.66 GHz
4 GB DDR3
GeForce 8800 GTX

I've got an ASUS A7U laptop and just installed Windows 7 today, but there's a massive issue—the drivers on the included CD aren't working, and Windows didn't even bother auto-installing my graphics or sound card drivers!!

Try installing them manually through Device Manager, assuming you can actually get online first.

Hey everyone, I’ve got a bit of a puzzle on my hands that I’m struggling to crack. If anyone has some insight, I’d appreciate it. I usually consider myself pretty tech-savvy, but yesterday really threw me for a loop. A friend of mine has an old machine: a pentium 4 2.4, 1.3 GB of DDR1 RAM, an ATI Radeon X1500 series card, an 80 GB Maxtor hard drive (which is definitely showing its age), all running on an ECS 848 P-A Deluxe socket 478 motherboard. Here’s the thing: the installation of Windows 7 (32-bit) goes flawlessly—actually, it runs surprisingly fast during the setup phase. But the trouble starts right after the initial configuration settings are finished. Just as it reaches the point where you're supposed to actually start using Windows, the computer restarts. It enters this endless reboot loop right at the stage where the OS should be loading. I don't suspect the processor is the culprit, because if it were, we wouldn't even get through the setup process. I have my doubts about the hard drive since it’s an old unit and likely on its last legs, but I can't say for sure. For the first time in a while, I'm feeling completely stumped. Does anyone have any hints or ideas? Until I figure this out, I guess I'll just be sticking with XP. 😁

The specs are:
i5 2.66 Ghz
4 GB DDR3
GeForce 8800 GTX

There is, but you won't really notice it during everyday tasks...
