tried doing it exactly like that and I still get that annoying white background :SSS
it's easy enough to just paste it in from Notepad, but then obviously everything loses its formatting and won't line up in columns like it's supposed to... and since there's a ton of text here, I don't have time to waste redoing all that work manually

I might as well just rub salt in the wound and say that everything works perfectly fine in PhotoPaint—every single one of those methods works without a hitch.

Does Photoshop actually have any specific settings tucked away inside Paste Special?

thanks for the effort

last attempt: Are you absolutely certain that you have set no fill as the background in Excel, rather than not using a white background? If you've applied a white background, then—well, obviously—you'll need to switch that over.

Yeah, I’m telling you... I’m positive 😉
It keeps moving the background along with the text even when it's set to no fill or just a plain white background, and honestly, I have no clue why it's doing that :S
The goal is to only move those faint lines when it's set to no fill, but if the background is white, obviously we just want that clean white look without all the extra lines

What actually happens when you go into Word and select Paste Special -> Windows Metafile? If everything were working correctly—and I really mean *correctly*—the background should definitely be transparent (you can test this yourself by placing an image behind the text and seeing if it shows through).

I'm also wondering how Photoshop handles it when you import (directly from the disk) a WMF-file? Does the background end up being transparent in that scenario?

Hey there,

So, I was wondering if anyone could maybe help me out a bit? It’s been a minute since I really messed around with Excel, so my brain is a little rusty, I guess. I'm trying to figure out how to take two different sets of data—you know, where one depends on the other based on their values—and turn them into just one single curve on a chart. Every time I try to do this, it just keeps spitting out separate graphs for each value, which isn't really what I'm looking for. Does anyone know how to stop it from doing that and actually get one resulting curve instead?

Like, for example: Time: 2, 5, 10
Distance covered: 10, 20, 30

Now, I'm looking to get one continuous line that shows the relationship between those two specific things.

Thanks so much in advance!

Just highlight the cells containing those numbers (in your specific case, all six cells), fire up the Chart Wizard, and you're good to go. 🙂

- Or just find one that works for you, if you haven't already.

Smith’s guide (don't get mad,😉,) : (it shows the bars, so you can pick your own Line type)

Every time I try to download something as a PDF, this keeps popping up. It’s been happening since the very first day I installed the software. Can anyone actually tell me what the issue is here?

From what I can gather here, it looks like you're trying to open a PDF file directly in Word—which, frankly, just confuses Word because it doesn't really know what to make of that specific file type.

Look, any file ending in .pdf needs to be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Open up File Explorer and check what the file association looks like. It should have the Adobe Acrobat Reader icon. If you don't see it—or if it’s trying to open in Word—then your file associations are totally messed up.

If there's no icon at all, you probably don't even have Acrobat installed.

Just grab Adobe Acrobat OVDJE and install it.
If you already have it, your computer just got confused and set Word as the default for PDFs. You'll need to go in and change those settings back.

I don't know why, but whenever I do a paste special as a picture (windows metafile)
then hit ctrl+a, copy, and then ctrl+v into Photoshop, I'm stuck with this white background... regardless of whether the text was black or white...
whatever, it doesn't matter... thanks for the help, but I'll figure it out somehow😉

Don't use ctrl+a.

Just select the actual image—click on it once—and then try your copy/paste from there.

Yeah, that’s me, I was the one working on it.
And honestly? Same old story—stuck with this white background again.
Those little lines from Excel just vanish when I move them over to Word, even though the white background stays glued to them.
Whatever, doesn't matter. I'll just find a different way to do it.

If anyone happens to know the answer to this, I’d really appreciate the help. I’ve been working on some calculations lately and I've run into a bit of a snag... everything works perfectly fine once I actually plug in my formulas, but whenever a cell is empty, it just displays 0.00. That part is totally fine, but I was wondering if there's a way to make sure those empty rows don't get factored into the math, or even better, how I can just hide those pesky 0.00 values when a row hasn't been filled out yet? Thanks so much in advance!

2 * 3 = 6
- * _ = 0.00

So, basically, does anyone know how to get rid of those zeros when there isn't any actual data to calculate...

There are several different ways to approach this—it really depends on what you're looking for. One method (for instance, if you're calculating A1*B1 in cell C1) would be something like this:

=IF(COUNT(A1: B1)
Basically, if there isn't a number entered in at least one of those cells—A1 or B1, in this case—you'll just end up with a blank cell instead; otherwise, the formula will go ahead and give you the product.

Forget the formulas, it’s actually way simpler than that:

Click the OFFICE BUTTON (that big one in the top left corner) -> Excel Options -> Advanced -> Display options -> then just uncheck the box that says "Show a zero value in cells that have a zero value"

So, I’ve got this physics paper hanging over my head, and I desperately need to format some proper division bars and multiplication symbols...
Everywhere I turn online, people keep raving about the Microsoft equation editor...
I went digging through my Word settings to find it, only to be told it isn't installed and that I need a Microsoft CD-ROM to set it up. And, just what do you think... do I actually have one sitting around??
Of course I don't. It’s lost in the void somewhere 🙏
So, here is the deal: does anyone actually know where I can download this specific part of Word? Or maybe you know a different program or some other workaround that could get me out of this mess???
Man, I really need some help here, pleaseeee 🙏 🙏 🙏

Look, just try using MathType (they have a 30-day trial) or maybe OpenOffice Math if you want something free.
