I’d really prefer to see your raw input data—specifically the cell range you're working with and the actual incorrect total you're seeing.

Something's definitely wonky with his formula, so yeah, I'm curious about the input too. But honestly, sharing those specifics might just trip up anyone else reading this who's stuck on the same thing. So, here's a quick little breakdown for anyone else running into this issue (at least based on this example)

Summing up every nth row in a column

The formula provided in the tutorial (=SUMPRODUCT((MOD(ROW($A$2:$A$24),7)=0)*($A$2:$A$24))) just isn't quite right. It ends up summing data from the 7th, 14th, and so on, rows of the spreadsheet, rather than the actual data range itself—since the first row is being used for headers in this case, that means the 7th piece of data actually sits in the 8th row.

ugh, I can't find the right thread so I'm just gonna throw this out here—does anyone know a good PDF to PowerPoint converter that's actually free?

Or maybe management just collectively lost their minds and decided—for reasons known only to them—that they don't actually need Microsoft Office for, you know, basically everything.

Not sure how you read that tutorial, man, but the title is literally "Summing every nth row in a column.

I figured I’d just post this here instead of starting an entirely new thread, so I hope you don't mind me jumping in...
I've run into a bit of a snag while trying to get Office 2010 installed on my system.
Here is a shot of what I'm seeing...

I figured I’d just jump in here since we're already talking about Office stuff instead of starting a whole new thread.
So, I've been having this incredibly annoying glitch lately. Every single time I try to print something—or even just save my work in Excel or Word—and I click that little little circle icon in the top left corner to get to the "Print" menu, the whole program just crashes out on me. It shuts down completely! Then I have to go through the whole hassle of reopening the app, and even then, it usually takes me several tries and a ton of clicking before it actually lets me print. It's driving me crazy.

Hey there! Does anyone happen to know the best way to drop a screenshot of a map from Google Maps directly into Word? Thanks!

Honestly, it’s super simple! Just grab a screenshot of whatever map you’re looking at, pop it right into Word as an image, and you're all set!!

The actual issue here—and I think this is important—is that translating "copyright" as "you have the right to copy" is just... well, it's fundamentally incorrect. 😁

You're partially right. 😁
The bigger issue here is that the threat is being applied to the wrong thing.👎

With Google Earth
- you just click edit -> copy image -> open up Word -> paste

Or with Google Maps

I need some help with two common, pretty important features in Word 2007

1) Is there a way to automatically generate numbers—instead of me just typing them all out manually—
from 1 to 100 (or maybe just 1 to 50)

2) How do I fix the line spacing in my document? Right now, the gap between sentences is huge, and I’m stuck having to manually nudge every single line closer to the one above it.

Not trying to start a whole new thread here, so I'll just drop my question right in this one.

How the hell do I copy text that's perfectly aligned in columns from Notepad (or Excel) and paste it into Photoshop onto an image without ruining the layout?
I already know the workaround if the background is light and I need black text—just select everything in Excel, paste it into Photoshop, and hit "Darken" to strip out those annoying Excel gridlines and leave just the clean text.
But if the background is dark and I need white text, I have to put a dark color behind the white letters in Excel first. The problem is once I move that over to Photoshop, the "Darken" trick fails miserably and just turns the entire damn photo black.
Hopefully you guys get what I'm getting at. If anyone knows a better way, please help a brother out.
There’s a massive amount of text organized in vertical columns, so there is absolutely no way I'm re-typing all of this manually in Photoshop.

So, how do I go about generating numbers automatically? I’m really looking to move away from all that tedious manual typing. Is there a way to just let the computer handle it?
On a scale of 1 to 100... or maybe just 1 to 50? What are we thinking here?

Just whip them up in Excel and then just copy and paste? Simple enough!

There are actually a few different ways to go about this, but honestly, my go-to move for speed? Just highlight the rows, right-click, and... What exactly does "paragraph" mean to you? Is it just a block of text, or is it the heartbeat of a good story? I’ve been thinking about how we structure our thoughts lately. Sometimes a single sentence hits harder than a whole wall of words, doesn't it? But then again, without that structure, everything just turns into a messy sprawl. How do you decide when to break things up? Does anyone else struggle with knowing when a thought is finished, or are you all just natural pros at this? Just set the paragraph spacing to zero and select "single," or honestly, you can just click one of those pre-set styles... simple enough, right? No spacing? Is that really how we're doing this now? Seriously? No gaps, no breathing room... just one long, endless string of characters. It feels so claustrophobic, doesn't it? Why would anyone choose to write like that? It’s almost impossible to read! Are we trying to save ink or something? Or maybe just testing our patience? I don't know, it just looks so chaotic!

For that first question, just check out my response from back on the previous page (dated Feb 28, 2011). Instead of using the alphabet (A, B, C), just select the numbering option for 1, 2, 3... As for the second issue, looks like you already found an answer elsewhere. I'm still working in Word 2003 myself, but honestly, I don't think the logic changes much between versions.

crimsonraven6 said:—but if the background image they’re using is dark, requiring white text, then you’d actually have to create a darker shade behind those white letters within Excel itself...

That isn't necessary. Just leave the text white and perform the copy/paste. I suppose if you can't see anything once it's in Excel, that shouldn't really be your concern. 🙂

BTW, I didn't quite grasp what was meant by that "darken" function—if there aren't any cell borders defined in Excel, you should probably just move the text over.

So I gave this a shot
And man, it just pulls the background boxes along with the letters. To deal with those white boxes in Photoshop, I try using the Darken mode on the Layers panel, but when the text is white, the letters just vanish right along with the boxes... whereas if I make the text black, the white boxes disappear perfectly while the text stays put
But here’s what I actually care about... how do I import JUST the text into Photoshop so it lands perfectly aligned in columns? I'm tired of the formatting getting trashed during the copy-paste, forcing me to mess around with the spacebar just to get everything lined up again

And regarding what you said, ''if there are no borders around the cell in Excel, you should just transfer the letters.'''
I don't get that at all... I type whatever I want into a cell, select it, paste it into Photoshop, and I end up with both the text AND the box

Maybe try using a Windows Metafile as an intermediate step:

- select and copy your cells in Excel;
- run Word and perform a Paste Special -> Windows Metafile there;
- then you can just copy-paste that image straight into Photoshop.
