Is your zoom set to 100%? If so, you should see a scroll bar down in the bottom right corner.

I'm not entirely sure what's missing here, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Here are the photos:

Nothing seems to be missing to me. Is it possible the monitor resolution is just set incorrectly? Could you let us know your monitor size and the specific resolution you have selected in your display settings?

My monitor resolution is set to 1680*1050 on a 23.6" screen, and my aspect ratio is 16:9.

The Word zoom is just too small for a screen that size. (Side note: why aren't you running at 1920x1200?)
Try this: while the document is open, hold down Ctrl and scroll your mouse wheel up or down. It's the fastest way to adjust the view via zooming.

I don't know. Any higher resolution than this just makes everything look tiny to me. I've read multiple times that 1900x1200 is pretty much the sweet spot for monitors around this size. Anyway, I just set the zoom in Word to 140% and it works fine now. Tried your suggestion as well—thanks!

Whatever...
Check your monitor's manual for the manufacturer's recommended resolution.
You'll get used to things looking "too small" soon enough, and you'll realize the benefits of actually following the manufacturer's advice.

Got another question about Word... I'm working on this math paper and I need to plot some graphs, but when I try using those arrows in 'insert shapes,' they look nothing like the actual graphs you see in textbooks... 🤷
Anyway, I'm using equations for the formulas, but how do I get those two axes to be perfectly perpendicular and actually look like a real graph? I have no clue... 🤷 And now I also have to draw in a function, so I'm totally lost on how to handle that... 🤷
Anyone??

anyone??

Insert > Object on the Create New tab, select Microsoft Graph Chart then click OK . Just plug in your data and tweak/format it until it looks right.

yeah, I get what you mean... it keeps spitting out all these crazy charts with different shapes and pies and stuff 😁

all I want is just two basic lines, some arrows, and the X and Y axes, nothing else... let me find a screenshot...

maybe I'll just try drawing those lines myself.....

However, when I actually open Word, the interface looks strange... the typing area shows the paper, but the entire right side of the program is just this empty gray void. How can I adjust the settings so the writing space spans the whole window? Could my monitor resolution be causing this issue?...

From what I can tell, that was done in a PDF. Wouldn't it be easier to just take a screenshot, paste it into Paint, crop out the specific graph you actually want, save it, and then drop it into Word? (Just hit Print Screen, go to Paint, and press CTRL+V).

yeah... that's basically how I started doing it.
I really thought I could make it look clean in Word, but nothing was working right... couldn't get it to look anything like this PDF... 🤷
thanks 🙂

So, how do I go about numbering just certain pages?? Like, what if I don't want the first three pages to have numbers at all, but I want everything else to start counting from there...😁

After the third page, you need a page break, but specifically this one: Insert > Break > Next Page.
That creates two separate sections.
From there, you can set up the footers for both sections however you want—like deleting numbers in the first section and adding them to the second. Just make sure that in the second section (starting on page 4), you click same as Previous (it's the 5th icon on the contextual ribbon that pops up when you're in the footer) to unbind it, then insert the page number and use format page Number (the 3rd icon on that same ribbon). Choose Start at > [your number, probably 1 🙂] > OK.
I know it sounds dry, but take it step by step. It's not that hard.

rustyranger12 said:Once you hit the end of page three, you gotta drop a page break, but not just any kind—do it like this: Insert > Break > Next page.
That’ll split things into two separate sections.
From there, you can mess with the footers in both sections however you want—like, wiping out the numbers in the first part and putting in what you actually need in the second. Just remember, in that second section (which starts on page 4), you have to click the same as Previous icon (it's the 5th one over on that pop-up ribbon that shows up when you're in the footer) to unlock it so you can number that section differently. Then just toss in the page number and set it using the format page Number button (the 3rd icon on that same ribbon). Pick Start at > [whatever number you want, probably 1 🙂] > OK.
Look, I know it sounds dry, but just take it step by step. It ain't that hard.

It’s just not working for me... I need to kill those first 3 pages too. But whenever I delete the numbers, they vanish from everything. And when I try to type a number in, the same damn number pops up on every single page. Plus, that same as previous button is greyed out, so I can't even click it. 🤷

driftingbear98 said:I can't get this thing to work. I still have to manually delete the first three. Every time I try to wipe those numbers out, they vanish from every single page at once. Take a look at this:
...Page break. But like this: Insert > I need a break. > Next page.
So, that's off the table. Page break. It's basic. You can't build autonomous sections with that.

To add or delete pages: One page > Header and Footer settings. > (place cursor at desired location) > How do I format page Number? Then just format the numbers however you want.

Yeah, my bad—apologies to everyone. Just a symbol. format page Number It's 3. (Or maybe 4.) Left side....

Got it.. thanks. Now I'm dealing with this crap where the page numbers on pages two and three just vanish, and then page one starts pulling whatever I type on page four. If I delete stuff on page one, it wipes out page four too. Wtf... and I even clicked next page after page 3.

Update: I managed to separate them.. so page three starts at 1, but it's still auto-numbering the first three pages too. So it goes 0, 1, 2 and then back to 1, 2, 3... And if I try to delete those first three, everything gets nuked automatically. Even though the first three say Section 1 and the rest say Section 2..

Correction: I’m trying to restart the page numbering at 1 starting from the third page, but the first three pages keep auto-numbering too. It goes 0, 1, 2 and then resets to 1, 2, 3... If I delete the numbers on those first three pages, they all disappear. Even though the first three are labeled Section 1 and the rest are Section 2..

0, 1, 2 and then 1, 2, 3 again?!? Really?!? 😕
Put your cursor in the footer of Section 2 and click same as Previous. Only then will the sections actually become independent, letting you delete the numbers in the first part or set whatever you want in the second.
