So, I just got these instructions:
The title page, table of contents, and abstract shouldn't have any page numbers on them.

Which basically means I'm starting my numbering on page 4!!!!

Is that actually doable in Word? All I know how to do is skip the number on the first page.

Thanks in advance.

I just noticed the same issue mentioned above 🤣.

I'm going to look into it.

I can't seem to find those specific font effects in Word 2007—you know, the ones where you get those tiny strikethrough lines or making the text blink. I could always pull that off in other versions of Word, but it seems to be missing here...

I guess they might have stripped those features out in the 2007 version. Maybe if you set it up in the 2003 version, it would still show up in 2007, but I'm not sure.

It’s not a huge deal for me personally, but I thought it might be useful to highlight something specific just so someone else doesn't accidentally skip over it... just a random thought.

As for installing another version of Word, I really can't bring myself to do it. I've had enough headaches in the past where having two different versions of Office installed at once just causes everything to go haywire—you end up needing all sorts of weird settings and it's honestly a nightmare.
So, I guess I'll just live without it. I suppose OpenOffice could be an alternative, though I'm not sure if it even has that specific tool, but again, it feels like too much trouble for something I don't strictly need.

Go into the footer of section 2 and hit that same as Previous button. Only then will those sections actually stop messing with each other so you can delete the numbers in the first one or fix them in the second.

Forgot to mention I actually got it working... thanks for the help 😉

Don't mention it...
For everyone else dealing with similar headaches: just remember trial and error. Don't let it get to you. 🙂

Look, whenever I try to do a page break like that, I end up stuck with this annoying blank line right before the heading on the second page of section two, and I honestly can't figure out how to kill it... if you know what I mean...😁 It’s totally messing up the flow of my project!😛 Is there actually a way to fix this mess?

You mean— above the heading?
Post a screenshot of that part of the document, but first: Tools > Options > the View tab, then under Formatting Marks select All and hit OK. Then we can actually see what's going on.

Just grab a screenshot of that section of the document, but before you do: Tools > Options under the View tab, check Formatting Marks and select All then hit OK so we can actually see what's going on under the hood.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant!🙂fixed it!!thanks!

Is there actually any way to type a letter with a dot over it? Specifically, I'm trying to get the Greek letter gamma with that little dot on top... I've been messing around with my keyboard for a bit now but nothing is working...🤷

Hey there. If anyone's dealt with this before, I could really use a hand. I'm working on my final thesis for college and I'm totally stuck on the Table of Contents—my professor sent it back because the right margins are all messed up. Basically, those little dots and the page numbers aren't lining up vertically at all. They're just staggered everywhere. I can't seem to get the dots and numbers to sit perfectly flush on the right side. Figured someone here might have run into this—or better yet, never had this issue to begin with—and could show me how to fix it. Thanks!

I'm grinding away at my final thesis for college right now and I'm totally stuck on the Table of Contents. My professor just kicked it back to me because the alignment is all messed up—specifically the right side. Like, those little dots and the page numbers aren't lining up in a straight line at all; they're all over the place. I seriously cannot get them to stay in a perfect vertical row. I'm praying someone here has faced this exact disaster, or maybe you guys are lucky enough to never deal with this crap and can just tell me how to fix it. Thanks a million!

Wait, so you were actually making the Table of Contents by hand??
just go to Insert > Index & Tables, but first make sure you've tagged your titles as Heading 1 and subheadings as Heading 2... then the program just spits out a perfectly aligned Table of Contents automatically.

Can you walk me through how to set up Headings or Heading 2? Sorry for being a pain—I barely touch this stuff unless I absolutely have to. I'm just not much of a Microsoft Office guy. Thanks

Ugh, just realized you're using the 2007 version! Those instructions I gave were for the ancient version of Word... my bad. Here's a link that actually explains everything for your setup http://office.microsoft.com/sr-latn-...001225372.aspx
And since your table of contents isn't numbering properly, you're gonna need this too
Word 2007 help

How to start numbering after the second page
1. Just follow the steps in this article to get those page numbers inserted.
2. Stick your cursor right at the start of the page where you actually want the numbering to kick in.
3. Go to the Page Layout tab, look for the Page Setup group, and click Breaks.
4. Under Section Breaks, click Next page.
5. Head over to the Insert tab, find the Header & Footer group, click Header or Footer, and then hit Edit Header or EDIT Footer to mess around with the header or footer area.

The header or footer holding the page number should now be labeled Section 2.

If the header or footer says First page Header - Section 2 - or First page Footer - Section 2 - but you want the first page of this section to look exactly like the rest of them, just uncheck that "Different First Page" box in the Options group.

6. Under Header & Footer Tools, go to the design Tab , in The Navigation Group , click link to Previous to break The connection between The header or footer in The New section and The previous section.
7. If you're trying to make the numbering on this page start back at 1, go to the Header & Footer group, click page Number, click format page Numbers, and just type 1 into the "Start at" box, then hit OK.
8. In the Navigation group, click Previous Section , and just wipe out the page number in the header or footer that's stuck in Section 1.

Seriously, pay attention to steps 3 and 4—that's the whole trick! You gotta insert that break, otherwise you can't reset the numbering to 1 or whatever number you want.

It would probably help if you mentioned which major you're actually studying.

We’ve run into a bit of a situation here. My sister downloaded Microsoft Office 2007 from the web, but we can't seem to track down the product key anywhere. In our confusion, we ended up uninstalling the 2007 version entirely, and now we're stuck wondering how on earth we can reinstall the Microsoft Office 2003 suite we were using before. If anyone happens to know the way out of this mess, please let me know. Thanks!
