🙂🙂

I am currently working on my thesis and need some assistance with page numbering. I need the first four pages to remain unnumbered, but starting from page five—which is the introduction—the numbering should begin at 1. I suspect there might be a way to handle this, if someone could perhaps explain the process to me...
I have Microsoft Word 2003 installed, in case that matters.

I'm hoping someone can walk me through this... if anyone could just explain how to actually do it...
I have the English version of Microsoft Word 2003 installed, if that matters.

Here's a link WORD - STARTING PAGE NUMBERING ON THE THIRD (OR FOURTH) PAGE. It's got a pretty solid explanation...

I suppose I tried that, but it simply doesn't work.

What do you mean it doesn't work?? I just did it and it worked fine!
The instructions clearly say to watch your steps... Just follow them precisely and you'll be fine..

1. Put your cursor at the end of page 4
2. Insert > Break > Next Page
3. View > Header and Footer
4. On the floating menu, uncheck "Link to Previous"
5. Click the icon on the floating menu for "Insert Page Number" — don't type anything manually
6. Click the "Format Page Number" icon on that same floating menu
7. Choose where you want the numbering to begin — set "Start At" to 1
8. Double-click outside the header and you're done

Afterward, double-click back into the header — put your cursor in the field where the page number is (don't type anything) — now you can adjust the position. Align left, center, or right

Hey everyone,

I have a bit of a question for the group... so, I've been working in Microsoft Excel, and I was setting up some conditional formatting within a pivot table. For instance, I wanted to make sure any cell where the value equals 1 turns red, while anything greater than 1 turns green, and so on. Everything seems to work perfectly fine at first,

but here’s the kicker: every single time I refresh the table, the conditional formatting just disappears or breaks. It’s incredibly frustrating. If I set the formatting rule to apply to a specific range, say =$E$1:$E$65536, once I hit refresh, the rule somehow splits itself up into weird fragments, like =$E$1:$E$4;$E$104:$E$65536.

It basically creates these disjointed ranges that skip over the actual data area—my table usually sits somewhere between rows 5 and 103, which is where all my actual numbers live.

I honestly can't wrap my head around why this keeps happening. I guess I just don't understand the logic behind why the software would behave this way.

If anyone happens to know a fix for this... I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Best,

I'm trying to type out a fraction in Microsoft Word 2010, but I’ll be honest, I'm feeling pretty lost with this program.
To give you a specific example, I need to put a fraction bar right after an equals sign, with text sitting both above and below it. Does anyone know how to actually do that? I think there might be a few different ways to handle it, so if someone could just walk me through at least one method, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

I've got a bit of a headache here in Excel.

So, I've been given two different values:

1) The first column shows the arrival time.
08:08:00 (Eight hours, eight minutes, zero seconds)

2) The second column is the travel duration.
14:21:02 (Which means the trip took fourteen hours, twenty-one minutes, and two seconds.

3) In the third column, I need to figure out the departure time—but I can't for the life of me get the formula right. 🤷

Any help would be huge... thanks. 🙂

Pretty sure it's the same deal, or at least close enough, in Word 2010

3) In the third column, I need to calculate the departure time, but I have absolutely no clue how to build the formula.

Look, if this works for you, great. If not, I know another way, though it’s a bit more of a headache:

1. In the first cell (A1), type in 8:8:0. Right-click, select format cells, then under the number tab, choose the time option and pick the 00:00:00 format. You'll need to do the exact same thing for the other two columns (B1) and (C1). Only, for the third one (C1), instead of just typing a time, enter this formula: if(A1>B1;A1-B1;B1-A1) and that should give you what you're looking for.

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Try typing this formula into cell C1: =ABS(A1-B1)
Just make sure you're paying close attention to how the time is formatted
(specifically whether you're dealing with "08:08:00" — before or after
noon: check if it's set to AM or PM)

It all comes down to how you handle the previous day, like @Walter Jackson48/">@@Walter Jackson48 mentioned.

Try this instead:

A1 Arrival
B1 Travel duration
C1 =A1+60-B1

btw: check out a tutorial on subtracting hours

I'm trying to run some sorts in Excel, but I've hit a bit of a snag. It keeps giving me an error saying there are merged cells in the way. Is there any way to actually sort while those cells are merged, or should I just unmerge them first?

Is anyone actually using Microsoft Word?
I’m trying to figure out which settings I need to toggle—on or off—just to type normally. Right now, it keeps adding extra letters and swapping out entire words while I'm mid-sentence!

Thanks!

I was wondering if there are certain settings I should toggle on or off to make typing easier, because right now, every time I type, it keeps adding extra letters and swapping out entire words unexpectedly.

Thanks!

It sounds like you might have picked up a virus on your computer; I ran into that exact same issue once, and honestly, the only thing that really worked for me was just doing a fresh reinstall of my operating system.

I’m honestly a bit skeptical here—how is it even possible to have a virus on a brand-new computer if it hasn't been connected to the internet yet and nothing has been plugged into it?

I just converted a PDF over to Word... the file has both images and text, so I thought I was good to go. But here's the catch: I wanted to highlight some parts, underline things, and change the text colors, but nothing is working. It’s like the document is locked up or something. Does anyone know how to fix this?

The fields you're trying to sort really need to have matching formats.
> single: A, B, C...
> merged: AB, CD, DE...
> merged: ABC, DEF ....
...

p.s. Just remembered you were on the blacklist! 🙂

It keeps opening my documents as if they were just giant images—how do I get them back to being actual editable text?
