What kind of video codecs are you all running on a weekly basis? And more importantly, which players are you leaning on—especially when it comes to handling .mkv files?

It’s not just 7000—7022 and everything beyond that still counts.

Just finished my install today... 🤷

And yeah, 7000 works too, plus anything in the 69xxx range—those are all bootable as well.
What kind of video codecs have you guys been using lately? And specifically, which players are you leaning on for .mkv files?

The latest K-Lite Codec Pack
along with KMPlayer...

Just download some codecs and you should be good to go...
Just an example from my side—BS Player isn't working for me, but there are plenty of solid alternatives out there. Even Daemon won't play nice; the installer just refuses to pick up where it left off after a reboot, looping back to the start every single time. But hey, I found a workaround for that too, so everything's running smoothly now anyway....😉

Just grab the latest K-Lite Codec Pack
and KMPlayer

That’s just not the case. The version I downloaded was the official one straight from Microsoft’s site, and it isn't bootable. Period.

I'm not claiming a bootable version doesn't exist out there somewhere, but I am certain the one I pulled down won't work...

Personally, I've had issues getting BS Player to cooperate, but there are plenty of superior alternatives out there, and even when Daemon tool fails me—refusing to move past the installation phase after a reboot and just looping back to the start—I've managed to find decent workarounds so that everything functions without much fuss....😉

The CCCP codec pack paired with GOM Player... honestly, you won't find a better combo than that.👍

What are you guys even talking about? Windows has been bootable since '95, so why on earth would there even be such a thing as a non-bootable version?

p.s.
I also downloaded the original beta directly from the official site, and of course, it's fully bootable.

I grabbed the original beta straight from the official site myself, and yeah, obviously it boots fine.

Exactly. They’re all bootable... if some people can't figure out how to burn an image properly and it fails, that doesn't mean the ISO isn't bootable.
You're right. What's even the point of non-bootable versions? It would be stupid to make them in the first place.🤷

You're right about that, though I fail to see why anyone would even bother making non-bootable versions... it seems like a complete waste of time...🤷

Fine then, I'll send you the image via FedEx along with a pre-burned disc, so feel free to try booting it if you're such a genius...☕

You were still playing in a sandbox while I was busy installing operating systems...

Go take a hike, the thread is finished...
Man, the entire world didn't have a bootable version of Windows 7, and now you think you're some kind of genius...

Try reading this entire thread from the very first post before you attempt to type something intelligent.

How’s everyone’s Wi-Fi holding up on laptops running Windows 7 build 7048 x86? Because honestly, mine is driving me absolutely insane. The connection just straight-up vanishes out of nowhere, and I’m stuck having to run the "diagnose and repair" routine just to get back online. It feels like such a massive hassle since there isn't even a clear rule for why it happens. If that doesn't fix it, I guess I’ll just start messing around with different drivers and see if that actually does anything...

I'm honestly not sure why some weekly builds from Microsoft's site end up being unbootable—it's a bit of a toss-up sometimes—but I personally worked with both 6966 and 7000, and they both booted just fine for me...

Look, I just happened to stumble upon one version that wouldn't boot—it was specifically built as an upgrade from Windows, you know? Every other version I tried worked perfectly fine...

Has anyone actually managed to force those ATI Catalyst drivers to run on Windows 7?
EDIT: Update: turns out ATI Catalyst 9.2 works perfectly fine on 32-bit Windows 7 (build 7048)

Just go take a hike, the thread is basically dead already...
Jbte, half the world didn't even have a bootable version of 7, and now you're acting like some kind of genius...

Read the entire thread from the very first post before you try to act smart.

Listen, Mr. Know-it-all, I know my 7000 series version works because I actually installed it myself. If everyone else is claiming it won't boot, they probably just have a different revision and swapped it out for a working one—but both versions were technically part of the 7000 series, which explains why it works for some people and not others.

As for the ATI Catalyst drivers, I grabbed the latest update and everything runs perfectly fine. For the record, I'm running a Sapphire 4850 and I've got fear2 gta4 and Burnout Paradise running smooth as silk on Windows 7 at 1680x1050 resolution....

I’m not entirely sure what you guys mean by "bootable," because I just signed up on Microsoft's beta page, grabbed my CD-key, downloaded the ISO, and went to work. I started with build 7000, burned it, and installed Windows just like any other version of Windows. When I rebooted, it gave me the option to choose between Windows 7 and an older version of Windows (Windows XP), which is totally standard for any 🤷. So, I ended up trashing the DVD I got from Microsoft and instead grabbed build 7048 from a torrent. I reinstalled Windows 7 using that torrent version, and now, if I leave the DVD in the drive, it boots straight into Windows 7, but if I take it out, it defaults back to Windows XP. 🤷

Listen, everyone, do yourselves a favor and go digging a little bit... I’ve actually got some pretty decent news for you... RC1 just leaked 🙂

Or maybe I'm mistaken... it says 7057. There's a lot of chatter claiming this is definitely RC1, but I could really use someone to weigh in and confirm if that's actually the case 🤔

I'm feeling a bit turned around by all this now

It’s official now... 7057 is definitely RC1

Here is what a reliable source is reporting...

"The EULA and the specific files found within 7057 confirm that we're looking at RC1"

Alright, alright
come on, beta testers—let's put this through its paces and see just how much guesswork went into this from the folks over at Microsoft 😬

I’m actually quite content with 7057 x86 for the time being.
