It doesn't matter if it was a quick or full format. The only difference is that a full format runs chkdsk; the actual formatting process is identical.

What kind of disaster do you think we're looking at here? Are we talking about a massive leap forward from the days of Windows XP? What’s everyone actually expecting?.....

I’m expecting a mountain of bugs and one giant resource hog that eats hardware for breakfast. ☕
Typically, Windows rolls out a year or two before the hardware is actually powerful enough—and affordable enough—to run it smoothly without constant stuttering. Plus, you get those inevitable glitches that don't truly get ironed out until you've burned through two or three service packs. It’s the exact same pattern we saw with Windows XP; it took about three years after launch before it finally hit that sweet spot of stability. Of course, I had to go out and buy a whole new rig just to keep up in the meantime. 😛
Lately, I've been spending more time messing around with Linux, and honestly, the simplicity and sheer quality of it have been a total surprise to me. :-)

Seriously, people... if you guys can't even find a single week's worth of info... should I even bother asking... have you never heard of the word
Code:
torrent

??? 😕

LOL yeah I've heard of it. I've grabbed a few things off The Pirate Bay before, but the speeds are absolute garbage, so I was wondering if anyone had a decent link.😉

My bad, I was probably thinking about an eventual low-level format 😉

I find myself increasingly weary of the constant, predictable chatter regarding these outdated operating systems, as if we haven't already exhausted every possible argument concerning their inevitable obsolescence... It seems some people possess an almost stubborn refusal to accept that the digital landscape has moved on, clinging to legacy software like a lifeline in a storm, despite the glaring security vulnerabilities that come with such negligence... One would think that after years of warnings from every major tech authority in the country, the message might finally sink in, yet here we are again, debating the merits of ghosts... kaže:
I heard some of our guys have been hitting up The Pirate Bay for a few torrents lately, but the download speeds are absolutely abysmal... I was actually wondering if anyone here might have a decent, high-quality link that actually works at a reasonable pace...😉

Check your inbox... 🤷

I fail to see the logic in claiming it's just an extra chkdsk... do you even realize how long a chkdsk actually takes? A few seconds, at most. There are far more technical components involved in why a full format takes as much time as it does...☕

Like what? All it really does is run chkdsk and wipe your data (MFT). It takes forever because of that /r switch. Maybe try running chkdsk /r and you'll see it's way more than just a few seconds.

Quick question... am I going to run into issues if I upgrade my PC? Right now I'm running version 7048 of Windows 7, but I just grabbed the latest build, 7057. I really don't want to deal with a clean install—I just did a fresh setup about three weeks ago and I'm not looking to start from scratch all over again. Is it actually safe to just upgrade the existing version? Any chance this messes with the hardware or general performance?

From what I’ve gathered, the upgrade runs smoothly and shouldn't cause any issues.

Turns out upgrading isn't such a bright idea after all. Dealing with constant internet headaches... the connection just wouldn't cooperate. Everything else worked fine, but the web access was a total mess. I ended up sticking with version 7057—the final build—and it works perfectly now.
Btw, does anyone know if you can actually use anything from "Windows Old"? Like, pulling saved tabs or passwords from Mozilla?

Does the RC1 version come bundled with that annoying feedback crap?

No—it’s gone. They could have patched it out, but this version of Windows just doesn't have it anymore.

Nicole Baker63 said:Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7, my subtitles just won't show up in Windows Media Player... anyone got any ideas??

So, here's the deal: Windows Media Player doesn't actually support subtitle playback (unless we're talking about DVD subtitles, obviously). If you really want to force those subtitles to show up 😉 in WMP, you're gonna need to install VobSub.
Basically, Jonathan Morris40 was totally right—get out of the Stone Age and just download GOM or, even better, KMPlayer!

So Jonathan Morris40 was right—stop living in the Stone Age and just grab GOM or, better yet, KMPlayer.

I'm with him. I used BSPlayer back in the day and it worked fine, but GOM is the standard now and it's much more powerful... that's what I'm using. Besides, who even watches movies in WMP anymore?😕

You can watch stuff without subtitles on > or BSPlayer—whatever. Honestly, Windows Media Player is never going to be "that" player. In my opinion, it would only reach its peak if they actually added subtitle support. Sure, Windows Media Player is versatile—you can record, rip, etc., etc.—but let's face it, it just hasn't carved out a real niche in the market like BSPlayer or > has.

It is aesthetically pleasing, and frankly, it performs its function adequately.

I can't recall the specific one, but I'm fairly certain you could have tacked on a subtitle plugin for Windows Media Player 8. Still, the experience was so abysmal that it was almost impossible to actually watch anything...

I relied on BS Player for years on end, but after switching over to GOM Player about a year or so ago, everything just finally clicked...

I stuck with BS Player for years. Then, about a year or two back, I finally made the switch to GOM Player—best decision I've made since then.

Same here. Honestly, exact same experience. 👍

I usually stick with KMPlayer—it’s been solid for me—though I’ll switch over to MPC Classic whenever I'm watching HD movies. My system tends to stutter a bit when running the two together alongside an external hard drive... might just be a lack of RAM, I suppose.
