Steven White96 said:Why does my computer sometimes recognize a hard drive and other times it doesn't? It happens more often than not—it pops up for a bit, then disappears, and just keeps cycling back and forth like that for a few days...
It might be best to move this question over to a different thread—maybe the IT Help Desk section—since I don't think this issue is strictly limited to Windows 7.

Windows 7 RTM is finally out in the wild! If you need anything else, honestly, just hit up Google. 🙂

Why 🤷 😕 I've got this legit final RC ☕
Is anyone else dealing with this nonsense?
I literally have to shut it down every single time 😠
Does anyone recognize the famous one who restarts👎

guys please, can someone just drop a download link for Windows 7? whenever I hit that Microsoft link for the Release Candidate, it just triggers a Winamp search even though I scrubbed Winamp from my search engines... whether it's via Internet Explorer 8 or Mozilla... heeeellpp...

Anyone recognize this "famous one who restarts" thing?👎
Basically, some absolute stupidity is going on 😳
It goes into sleep mode for like five seconds and then—boom—restarts😲
Everything shuts down perfectly fine, and then after five seconds... bam! There it is again...
Help me out here 🙏🙏🙏

Help. 🙏🙏🙏
Right-click on your desktop, go to Personalize, then ScreenSaver. From there, hit Change Power Settings. On the left side of the screen, select "Choose what the power buttons do," and you'll see exactly what's currently selected under "When I press the sleep button."
If "Sleep" isn't selected, then that should be the fix. It really ought to be that simple.

Windows 7 RTM Build 7264 x86 ISO
For those running short on time... here are three .iso files (850 + 850 + 687 MB)
...
/edit/... actually, I found a single 3 GB link with full speed. If you're on high-speed broadband, you'll have it in about two and a half minutes.
Moderator, am I allowed to post the link?

If it isn't set to sleep, just switch it to that, and that should do the trick.
Yeah, I know 😉
Look, we already talked about this stuff earlier ☕
But honestly, it's not even a big deal 😠
Come on, guys, let's use our heads here 🙏

Does anyone actually know what an XP to Windows 7 upgrade costs?
I can find price lists online for upgrading from Vista to 7, but I can't find anything specific for moving from XP to Windows 7 anywhere...

I went through the exact same thing—it was enough to make me lose my mind (excuse my language 😁) before I finally sorted it out.
In my case, the culprit was an ancient keyboard that was "waking up" the PC from sleep—even though that option was supposedly disabled in the BIOS!
So, here’s what you should try: head over to the Device Manager, find both the mouse and the keyboard (you'll have to do this twice, once for each), right-click them, go to Properties, then Hardware, and disable the setting that allows the device to wake the computer.
If that doesn't fix it, we'll have to dig deeper—I've read about a hundred different reasons why this happens online. For me, it was just that old keyboard, and now everything is running smoothly again.

You mean the Windows 7 7600 version??? 🤔
I grabbed it... my new HD 4890 graphics card should be arriving any day now, so I'll probably just install a fresh set of Windows then...😍

Taylor Campbell4 said:Man, that was intense—I almost passed out right then and there. Sorry about that, my filter totally failed me for a second! 😁 ...before I actually managed to get that sorted out.
So, turns out the whole headache was just my ancient keyboard—which, get this, was acting up even though I’d specifically gone into the BIOS and made sure that option was disabled! Who would've thought, right?
Just woke my PC up from sleep mode.
Alright, here’s what you should try—it's a bit of a process, but bear with me. Head over to the Device Manager, then find your mouse and your keyboard (you've gotta do this separately for both, so yeah, two rounds of the same drill). Right-click on them, hit Properties, jump over to the Hardware tab, and just uncheck the setting that lets that specific device wake the computer from sleep mode. Give that a shot and see if it fixes things.
If that’s not the fix, then I guess we just move on—because honestly, I’ve been scouring the web and found about a hundred different things that could potentially cause this, if I’m being a little dramatic. In my case, it turned out to be an older keyboard acting up, but after swapping things around, everything is running perfectly now.
👍
I've got the Logitech Wave wireless desktop setup.
I just need to get those drivers installed up there—haven't actually gotten around to doing it yet. 🤷)
But man, this keeps happening even when I just hit a key on my keyboard—or even if I’m just clicking around through the Start menu! 😳
I’ll tackle this once I get home—we'll see how it goes... though honestly, I highly doubt it’s some weird driver issue with my keyboard or mouse, especially since it's acting up even before I hit start. 🤷

Well, turns out it isn't RTM after all. False alarm, I guess. That's how things stand right now. 🙂

The thing is, this happens even when I hit a key on the keyboard or try to access the Start menu.😳
I'll take a look at it once I get home and see what happens... though honestly, I doubt it's a driver issue for the mouse or keyboard if it's acting up through the Start menu too.🤷
It sounds like there's some interference in the communication lines here. What I mean is, we're talking about waking from sleep mode—specifically, the PC waking up on its own. That shouldn't really matter whether you put it to sleep via the Start menu or by hitting a button on the keyboard.
Just give my suggestion a shot and we'll see how it goes.

Hey everyone—does anyone happen to know of a little utility or a specific tweak to get rid of those icons sitting in the bottom right corner, you know, the ones showing the Windows 7 status and all that extra clutter?
edit: Actually, I just managed to track one down! In case anyone else is running into the same annoyance, here is what I used: link

I just finished installing it on Windows 7. Nero 7.0—it’s a classic, really. I still find myself reaching for it occasionally when I need that specific workflow. I decided to just ignore those few Windows compatibility warnings—I simply toggled the setup.exe into Windows Vista compatibility mode, though I still managed to trigger one more alert anyway.
I fired up Nero 7.0 again—ignoring that first compatibility warning, of course—and managed to burn a data CD without any issues. Now I just need to figure out how to disable those annoying pop-ups for good.

Just try what I suggested and you'll see.
Man, whatever, dude... let's just move on to something else.🤷

So, you've disabled the keyboard and mouse from being able to wake it from sleep mode? I remember seeing a webpage once that listed every possible trigger—I can't seem to find the link right now.
Do you have any other "exotic" hardware hooked up to the PC—things that shouldn't really be there, besides just a standard mouse or keyboard?
If you're using Sleep, go into your Advanced Power Settings and disable Hibernation. Also, head into your BIOS under Hardware Options and uncheck anything that might be waking the system up.
Not to mention, I read on a forum once that the culprit could be anything from the motherboard down to the RAM. 🙄 I suspect you might have to do a little digging here.
Are you running into the same issue with both Hibernation and Sleep?
Try changing the sleep state in your BIOS—you know, switching between S1, S3, or maybe even S6 if it's available.
Maybe try heading down this path: 🙂 http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

I figured I'd jump into this thread since we're talking all about the Windows 7 Release Candidate.
I've been running the Windows 7 Release Candidate Build 7100 64 bit since the very day it dropped, and honestly? I have nothing but praise for it. Not a single freeze or a single crash. The speed is just incredible compared to Windows Vista. I mean, Vista runs okay if you're on 64-bit with 4GB of RAM, but this is different.
For the past week, I've been pushing my system with an AMD Turion 64x2 2GHz, 4GB of 800MHz RAM, and ATI graphics. It flies! I've tested AutoCAD and CorelDRAW, and they both run beautifully.
Then there's Archicad 12. I'm using Microsoft Office 7 Enterprise and Nero 8, and everything works flawlessly. No driver issues at all. I even downloaded Music Player 3.5, though it feels a bit slower than Internet Explorer 8. Even in this RC phase, the OS feels like a finished product. They really nailed it with this one. If it's anything like what we expect in the States, it's going to be huge.
I don't get why some people here are struggling with various random builds when the official Windows 7 Release Candidate Build 7100 that Microsoft released works perfectly. 👍👍
