So I was returning a package to Amazon this past Monday, and get this—they actually had the nerve to charge me for the shipping costs $5.00

Of course you’re paying shipping just like you would if you were sending something to me or anyone else; packages don't just travel for free. When you order from a place like Amazon, you aren't paying a separate shipping fee because it's already baked into the price, right? I assume they have some kind of bulk contract with USPS or FedEx.

That’s just not how it went for me, because honestly, whenever I had to send something back—whether it was the wrong item or they sent way too much stuff—I never ended up footing the bill for shipping. I actually called them up and they told me they were in the middle of renegotiating their contract with USPS, so they promised my shipping costs would be refunded eventually.

If you’ve already opened the package, repackaged it, and addressed it back to them, you'll have to cover the return shipping costs upfront. You'll get that money back later via a money order. Just a heads-up though: I don't think they refund the return shipping fee itself—only the original amount you paid for the initial shipment.

So I picked up my package, paid the full amount including shipping, opened it, taped it back up, dragged it all the way to the USPS office, and then had to pay for shipping all over again—which is something I’ve literally never had to deal with before when returning an item.
I actually called them to ask what the hell was going on, and they just gave me some nonsense about contract terms and fine print.

Oh, I almost forgot—she actually asked me how much I paid for shipping, and I told her $5.00, basically meaning she’s refunding that specific amount (or at least that's what she claimed) rather than the $8.25 they usually tack on when you're placing an order.

Back when I used to shop through mail-order catalogs like Sears or JCPenney, I could return items without ever touching a shipping fee. You just had to make sure you sent it back in the original packaging...

So, last week I just paid cash on delivery—well, my husband handled the transaction $20 with the mail carrier, and the package was clearly marked $16 with a weight under 3kg. 🤷
I picked up some rubber building blocks for my kid and a pair of pants for myself ($53 we ordered them together)
bringing the total to $73 ($219).

Does anyone happen to know roughly how much shipping will cost to Switzerland? I'm sending out a package, and I'm not sure if I should send it via certified mail or just standard—though I'm guessing certified is probably the way to go? 😬

Just head over to the USPS website; there’s a little house icon near the top where you can find the shipment calculator or something similar, so you should be able to track it there. 🙂

So, I sent out a package via COD this past Tuesday to some girl... I paid the shipping upfront, and the total amount due on delivery was $38...
But now she’s telling me the package arrived, except she only paid the mail carrier $44.... 😱

I mean, what is that even about?
If she had just been $1.75, I guess I would have understood, but this... 😢

Well, it's standard procedure for her to pay the exact amount you listed above... You really should have used certified mail 😉

Yeah... I get what you're saying... I was supposed to pay $38...that's exactly what I put down in the info...

Did you actually include the shipping in those $38 dollars? Because if you did, but then also marked it so the buyer covers the postage, she’s going to end up paying the shipping fee on top of that $115—meaning an extra $5.75 out of her pocket.

I feel like I'm explaining basic math to 😬

Yeah, yeah... I did...
I paid the shipping upfront and told the girl that the COD amount$38..including the shipping, and I even told the lady at the post office that the total price was that exact amount.
And that's what I wrote down on the little slip, too...😕

Looks like she covered the shipping too. It adds up since shipping is about 16 or $5.75. Maybe there was just a misunderstanding at the FedEx counter or something. Just Venmo her those $5.75 and call it a day 😉.
