If you get $44 back from the USPS, just give them those $5.75 back and call it a day 🙂 They probably just misread your info and thought they were still dealing with some old-school mail system 🙂

Oh my god, ladies, please—stop aiming for the budget option. The difference in shipping costs is practically pennies, and you end up with zero proof that anything even left the building. Just a little bit of free advice right there.🙂

It wasn't even really a significant amount of money, per se...$3.25...so I just felt like it was entirely unnecessary, you know? It honestly seemed more sensible to skip it, since the shipping costs were actually going to end up costing me more than the item itself was worth.😁...

I think this is what happened:

You sent a package where you requested $38, you paid the shipping $5.75, and you specified that the buyer pays the C.O.D. amount ( $38 ) plus shipping ( $5.75 ). That's why she paid $44, which the mail carrier will bring straight to your door. You likely sold something for $33 and immediately factored in those $5.00 we usually subtract when sending things out.

For example, I sent a package to someone the other day. The item was worth $43, but they wanted C.O.D. I paid the shipping $8.00 and made sure the buyer pays the C.O.D. amount plus shipping. When the package hits their doorstep, they pay $51, and then the mail carrier hands that cash directly to me.

I hope that makes sense, or at least that I explained it clearly enough. 😁😁

Look, typically when you send a package COD (cash on delivery), the recipient isn't just paying the face value on the slip; they also have to cover a percentage fee for the postal service, which is essentially the money the carrier is meant to collect and return to you.

That said, even accounting for those fees, this discrepancy seems absurdly high, regardless of whether they tacked on the shipping cost (though why on earth would they include shipping if you already specified the exact amount the recipient owes?). At any rate, you really ought to head down to the local USPS office and demand a clear explanation as to why she was hit with such an inflated figure. 🙂

Laura Bailey3, just throw it in a plain brown box from Target and tape it up tight, or even a shoebox from Walmart—just wrap it in some standard packing tape from the corner store and ship it over to $1.75. Shipping via USPS should run you about $5.00 🙂
