Either you genuinely didn't realize, or that comment about percentages was meant to be humorous.

Generally speaking, whey has a lower protein percentage because it carries a lot of water, but whey protein is still top-tier..
Whey protein Isolate (WPI) โ€“ 159
Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC) โ€“ 104
Egg โ€“ 100
Milk โ€“ 91
Egg whites โ€“ 88
Chicken โ€“ 79
Casein โ€“ 77
Soy โ€“ 74

The catch is that those Walmart proteins aren't actually much protein. ๐Ÿ˜ Honestly, Iโ€™d be buying it too if it were legitimate whey. How much does it run at Walmart? $6.75? ๐Ÿ˜

I don't personally know the exact ingredient profile of that specific protein, though it is clearly listed right there on the packaging...
Actually, whey contains a relatively low percentage of protein by weight because itโ€™s mostly water... though, in my opinion, whey proteins remain the gold standard for quality...

Thank you... ๐Ÿ™‚

Ethan Garcia8 said:The real kicker, if you want to call it that, is how those proteins from Walmart don't actually seem to contain any real protein... ๐Ÿ˜ I suppose I might actually consider picking some up if that were legitimate whey protein... How much does it run at Walmart? $6.75? ๐Ÿ˜

It appears there may have been an error or a truncated message in your input... $10 ๐Ÿ˜ณ

So, I seem to recall reading somewhere that whey protein isolates are the superior choice... I actually spotted it on a container back at Walmart, where it had "The Healthy Plus" printed right on the labelโ€”which, for some reason, just lends a certain sense of credibility to the whole thing... โ˜•Well, I suppose that is my current way of thinking about it... ๐Ÿ˜ It really can't be that bad... ๐Ÿฅณ

And I wonder... is it actually possible to prepare that drink using milk instead?

About $10 ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Looking back, I recall hearing that whey proteins are the gold standard. I actually spotted some at Walmart where the box even had "healthy" printed on it (which adds a bit of trust, right? โ˜•), so I figured ๐Ÿ˜ - it can't be bad... ๐Ÿฅณ

Also, can you mix that shake with milk?

Yeah, yeah, whey is great. It's just that high-quality, legit whey can cost $47 for a half kilo, and you really have to check how much actual whey is in there, what the quality is like, and where it's being sourced from (like if it's coming from China ๐Ÿ˜), so...

But yeah, you can definitely use milk.

Honestly, Iโ€™d love to see a real lab test that DM-ov whey just to be sure.

Because you really can't compare their prices to anyone else's. That The Healthy Plus is a Walmart brand, and they sell it directly without any middleman getting involved. Think about itโ€”if you buy half a kilo for $47, the retailer is probably grabbing at least a 100% margin, and the manufacturer is charging the dealer way more than what it actually costs to make. There's no way it costs a manufacturer more than 20-$10 to produce half a kilo of whey. Look, you can grab 22 kg of whey on TrueProtein (which is actually solid stuff) for 200 USD. That price is right in line with what Walmart charges, maybe even a tiny bit cheaper.

So, everyone keeps saying, "It's too cheap at Walmart to be any good," but I'm telling you, it doesn't have to be bad just because the price is low. What I mean is that the prices of all those other brands are easily ten times higher than their actual production costs.

I mean... it's not like I drink it myself, but I'm just pointing out the facts.

The price point just isn't comparable to anything else. Since The Healthy Plus is a Walmart brand, they sell it directly without middleman markups. Think about it: if you buy half a kilo of whey for $47, a typical retailer usually grabs at least a 100% margin, and the manufacturer charges the distributor way more than what it actually costs to make.

So, while everyone is busy saying, "It's too cheap at Walmart to be any good," my take is that it doesn't necessarily have to be bad just because the price is low.

I mean... I don't even drink it myself, I'm just pointing out how the math works.

I read somewhere that the margins on whey are actually pretty slim.๐Ÿคท

Itโ€™s tough. If you check BB.com, you'll see ON whey goes for about $40, while here it hits $190, which is basically $100. (And honestly, since the dollar got stronger, that gap used to be even wider)
Basically, the factory is moving whey at much lower rates.
I really think margins in the States are razor-thin just because the competition is absolutely brutal. That's why you see those tiny one or two-dollar price swings between different American grocery stores.

It's pretty rare to find a product in America with a margin lower than 100%.

To girl who picked up some whey at Walmart: what does the label actually say? How many grams of protein are we looking at per scoop? Just transcribe the nutritional table for usโ€”letโ€™s see what we're actually dealing with here. Anyone can start a fight without knowing the facts.

So, I was just browsing online and stumbled upon this ---> http://www.das-gesunde-plus.de/cgi-b...hp=1228767813#
(it's the second one in the list)
Anyway, looking at the stats, you get 4g of protein and 20g of carbs per servingโ€”and all of that is sugar. Total disaster.

That one is just basic whey, whereas the Protein 90 is actually a bit better --> 30g of protein and 12g of sugar. But even then, it isn't strictly whey; they don't even bother to list the specific protein sources on the label.

The bottom line? You're looking at 4g of protein and 20g of carbs per servingโ€”and yeah, all of that is sugar. Absolute garbage.

Now, that's supposed to be whey, but that Protein 90 option looks slightly betterโ€”> 30g of protein and 12g of sugarโ€”except it isn't actually whey. It doesn't even specify what the protein sources are, which is always a red flag for me.

๐Ÿคฃ Itโ€™s honestly infuriating how they can market this stuff under the "whey" label. If it's Egg White, then that's likely where the protein is coming from. I mean, 30g of protein isn't a bad number, but you can bet your life the price tag is higher because of it.

Oh yeah, you've got a point there. It reminded me of that time when customs officials started cracking down on supplements because local American vendors were complaining. Something like that.

In German, "eiweiss" basically just means protein. It doesn't necessarily have to imply it comes from eggs (even though "ei" and "weiss" definitely point that way if you're thinking about it).

For actual whey, they'd usually call it milk protein.

If they were talking about whey, they'd say molkeneiweiss.

You've got a point there; I actually went and checked the dictionary. I know German well enough, but apparently, my grasp on technicalโ€”specifically chemical or medicalโ€”terminology is lacking. ๐Ÿ˜

Hey! So, I was just thinking about everything... you know? It's kind of wild how much things change when you start looking closer at the details. I guess I've been obsessing over this lately, maybe a little too much, haha! But seriously, there's just so much to unpack here. I mean, if you think about it, itโ€™s almost like... well, I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it feels like we're constantly reinventing the wheel, right? Anyway, I'm just rambling now! Just wanted to share those random thoughts while they were bouncing around in my head. Hope you guys are having an awesome day! kaลพe:
You're totally right, I actually went and checked the dictionary! I mean, I do know German, but clearly, those technical chemistry and medical terms just aren't in my vocabulary. My bad! ๐Ÿ˜

Wait, hold on... what was that? I think I missed something!
So, youโ€™re hanging out at the gym, acting like a total pro, but then you open your mouth and realize you don't even know how to say the word "protein" in three different languages? I mean, wow. Just... wow. ๐Ÿ˜

Well, actually, in German they just call it protein too... I'll admit it, I was wrong ๐Ÿ™ˆ /grabs a French dictionary/ ๐Ÿ˜

Hey everyone! So, I was just sitting here thinking about everything, and I really wanted to jump in and share some thoughts. I guess I've been looking into this stuff quite a bit lately, maybe even more than I should, haha! But seriously, thereโ€™s just so much to talk about, right? I mean, I don't know if you guys feel the same way, but I find myself constantly weighing all these different options and wondering which path is actually the best one to take. It's kind of overwhelming sometimes, I guess! Anyway, I just felt like reaching out and getting a conversation going. What do you all think? I'd love to hear your takes on this! kaลพe:
I mean, okay, I'll admit itโ€”I messed up! Even in German, you still just say "protein"... so yeah, my bad! ๐Ÿ™ˆ *grabs a French dictionary* ๐Ÿ˜

Itโ€™s more like a lexicon... or maybe just a collection of words, I guess! ๐Ÿ˜

What exactly do you mean by "disaster"?๐Ÿค” How does that stack up against, say, a slice of cheese or a small chicken cutlet?๐Ÿคท
