Alex Long8 said:So, I just picked up a tub of Isogainer from Nutrabolics, the 5lb size.
The label says 3 scoops per serving, which totals 179g. This is total nonsense, seriously—at this rate, I’m going to burn through the whole thing in like two and a half weeks...
Is it actually okay to just take 2 scoops as a post-workout shake? I'm calculating that those 2 scoops give me about 40g of protein, which is solid, plus roughly 60g of carbs, which is also plenty...
...and what if I happen to go way too long without eating before a workout? I usually try to be careful and eat about 200g of oats 1-2 hours before training since that's my breakfast, but if life happens and I haven't eaten in ages, would it be alright to knock back one scoop about an hour before the gym and then another scoop as a post-workout shake right after?

I'm already sitting here wondering what's going to happen once I start crushing this gainer. If I could just bump up from my current 175-180 lbs to somewhere in that range within a month or two, I'd be thrilled. Then, to hit that 185-190 lb mark, I'd probably supplement with some high-end protein powder—probably that Weider 80+ stuff, which is honestly expensive as hell. But I think I can swing it because right now I don't have much to spend, so I could set aside some cash for maybe two bags that might last a month. That would be awesome: a fast-acting protein that works great as a post-workout, plus some Casein for that slow release... all while keeping my actual diet on point, obviously.

Oh, and I was thinking about grabbing some BCAAs right now. Which ones are the best value for the money? Since I've got a 20% discount at Weider (I think they have a location over near the mall)

Man, I feel like I've explained how to dose a post-workout shake five different times already. Personally, I take 2 scoops of protein and 3 scoops of glucose. And for the love of God, it's Weider, not Waider. You keep typing "Waider" 😛 , and honestly, that stuff is overpriced anyway; you can find way better options than them.

Honestly, there's zero difference between BCAAs, so just grab the cheapest one on the shelf. But hey, rustyowl4 made a solid point—if you're watching your budget, you're better off putting that money toward a good whey instead. As for my own supplement routine, I usually split my protein up. For a pre-workout hit, I'll take a mix of 20g protein, 30g maltodextrin, 10g BCAA, and 3g creatine. Then, for my actual post-workout shake, I bump it up to 30g protein, 40g maltodextrin, 10g BCAA, and 3g creatine. I make sure to fuel up about an hour to ninety minutes before hitting the gym, and then obviously nail a heavy meal with protein and carbs about an hour after I'm done.

I’m not exactly a big spender... but BCAA doesn't seem cheap either. If you get a bottle with $53 120 tablets and take two before and two after your workout, that covers about 30 sessions. I don't feel like doing the math right now, but that's roughly two months, which doesn't exactly seem cheap to me...

I haven't sat down to do the math properly, but that feels like it would only last about two months, which doesn't seem like much value for the money...

Honestly, it just isn't worth it. In my view, if you're going to invest in supplements, you're better off putting that money toward a quality powder where you can actually get 5-10g of amino acids daily; it's much more practical to save those funds for a good whey, some Casein, or simply focusing on high-quality whole foods instead.

Hmm....look, here's the deal. That price doesn't include sales tax or customs. You have to add their local tax—which I think is about 20%—plus customs, which looks to be around 30%. I know because I was ordering an Isogainer from Nutrabolics the other day; it said $29 but I ended up paying $100 in total. So, this would probably set you back around $117... and if you need to pick it up, shipping isn't cheap either. Maybe $9? I'm not sure on the exact math, but it adds up. Don't forget to factor in gas money too. Basically, everything ends up being expensive.

As for the brand, who knows? A brand is a brand. Twinlab is a well-known name, though personally, I don't think supplements are their main thing. I don't know how to put it, but whatever. Still, they’re definitely better than Biotech or American Muscle and those other brands that pack their stuff with soy protein...

Whoops, just read that again. It mentions soy in there too. Some kind of soy oil or something... I avoid any supplement containing soy. Not the best reputation out there.

Anyway, my advice is this:

Once I bulk up and finish this tub, I'm switching back to this.
It's solid. The price isn't outrageous compared to others, and the quality is there.
-tastes good
-mixes well
-includes glutamine and BCAAs
-no aspartame—though you could argue about that. Everyone claiming "no aspartame" is usually just using something else. It might be a lesser evil, but it's still an evil. Still, this one avoids it.

Man, I had their price list once but I must have trashed it. There's a contact email on their site, so just ask them. When I requested a quote, they sent it over the same day...
...they used to be pretty cheap, though I heard some items supposedly went up in price recently.🤷

Honestly, just grab the contact email off their website and shoot them a message. When I reached out asking for their pricing, they shot it over to me the very same day. No biggie.
Man, they used to be such a steal. I just heard through the grapevine that some of the products have supposedly hiked up their prices.🤷

You ever tried it?

Not personally, but apparently they're pretty solid. People seem to be raving about them on other boards.

So, I was wondering... would mixing my whey protein with milk actually help slow down the digestion process a bit? 🤷 😕

Charles Hill35 said:Is it worth mixing whey protein with milk just to slow down digestion?🤷 😕

From what I gather, milk slows down protein absorption, which is why people usually skip it when mixing shakes post-workout. That said, it’s probably not going to be as effective at slowing things down as something like low-fat cottage cheese or Casein powder.

Yes, adding milk will certainly slow down the absorption rate by a certain percentage, though it won't be a dramatic shift in how your body processes it.

Here’s my current protein setup

Whey: http://www.prosport.net/katalog/prod..._id=1030065520

Tastes great and mixes up super smooth.

Casein: http://www.prosport.net/katalog/prod..._id=1030061516.

By the way, you can order from Prosport and just have them ship it to your local post office in the US; it ends up being much cheaper and you won't deal with customs fees as long as the total stays under $333.

Can you drink whey with milk? Sure thing—since milk has casein in it, it'll just slow down the absorption of the whey.

What’s the deal with chicken noodle soup? How much protein and carbs are we actually talking about here?

It really depends on what kind of chicken you’re using—are we talking breast meat, drumsticks, or maybe some thighs? 🧐
And what kind of noodles are we talking about here? Come on, give me a few more details! 😁

Casein: http://www.prosport.net/katalog/prod..._id=1030061516.

Mixing whey with milk shouldn't be an issue at all, since the milk has casein in it that'll just slow down how fast the whey gets absorbed.

Sounds solid. How long have you been running these?
